pros: Very good price quality ratio, clean and tidy, useful shared kitchen, friendly staff, nice common areas, location in Escalon is safe-feeling and walkable. cons: kind of a lot of road noise at night, shower water pressure could be better.

Because of some circumtances, we ended up staying there 3 times! I am very glad we did, Malcolm and his team found a way to accomodate us each time and his staff was always very helpful. The rooms are perfectly adequate and a great value for the price. The atmosphere is quiet and I would recommend it to every type of traveller; backpacker, couple, family, etc. The only thing I would mention is this: Don't underestimate the difficulty of getting around from somewhat remote Colonia Escalon, especially if you rely on public transport. It is not that easy to get to the Centro and even more difficult to come back. Plan for added time.

This is a nice place. The owners are great and very helpful and it's all quite relaxed. The price is also OK at $8 a dorm or doubles from $20.||||It is very very quiet but that is San Salvador in general...||||Where it could improve is the chill out areas. There is a TV with cable and DVD player - great! But the chairs are all hard wood and even though there are one or two cushions it is very uncomfortable. They need big comfy sofas that people can snuggle up in and relax, work on your laptop, watch a film, read a book etc.||||There is also a small patio but there are no hammocks which is a shame. A hammock or too also helps people relax more.||||Out back is a tiny unkept garden which is fine for a cigerette but not much else.||||So not an amazing place, but a quiet relaxed place that will suffice for a few days. I would probably look elsewhere if I went back, but that's not saying this place is bad as it isn't.||||Note: I had to renew my visa and the owner actually would have come with me to the office to help with this (as is the requirement...you need a local reference). That was awesome! However I argued my case with the visa office and we did not need to go down that route - still pretty awesome service from the hostel!

I recently stayed at Hostal Cumbres del Volcan for a couple of nights. It is very basic but also a budget accomodation. It had a very easy going atmosphere and I enjoyed meeting the other people staying at this hostal. The highlight were Roxana and Juliam who work there. They treated me like family and could not do enough to make my stay enjoyable. I hope to go back to San Salvador and I would certainly stay here again.

Nice place. Nice location. Nice service. It's definitely a good economic option for your stay in San Salvador. Safe area of the city. You can even walk on the streets at night. But as in rest of the town, there is not much to do apart from fast-foods and malls.

I had a real luck with this place, because I needed a place with good wifi, what's not that common in central America, and here the wifi works really well. Apart for that, it's clean, not expensive, calm, hot water, in a safe area (though it's not center, but the center is more dangerous, so I've heard), it's really like staying in a home of a family. The people here are nice. I liked the place and had a good rest. Thanks!

Major problem is that this hostel... isn’t a hostel. Doesn’t even try 2. It’s like an old aunt’s house from the 60’s which was turned into a dormitory. It lacks all the good quality of it, the personality, leaving you only with rules. The worst of worsts being, you have the 12 am curfew. Why on earth can’t you give me the keys with a 10$ deposit? The bunk bedroom is dusty and needs a bit of refreshment, as does the toilet. The WiFi is not available on the room, only in the living room, which has old and dusty furniture. Nice terrace, but it rains and during the day you are out. Really one of the worst ever.
