Arrived mid-afternoon.... it seemed nobody was around, but that is Spain for you! Was soon shown to our room that had a small kitchen, nice bathroom, a small dining table, a few chairs and a bed. We were visiting out daughter who was on an Erasmus placement at the University. This represents EXCELLENT value for money as we could cook and eat in (eating out is not just costly in Spain, but also many restaurants don't even consider opening before 10:00pm... too late for an Englishman). There was free wifi, too, so take a phone or tablet and using skype or the free BT version you can make free calls to England if necessary. Family run, the place is full of care. Go for coffee at breakfast, they don't know how to make tea! The breakfast is sufficient and good quality, served downstairs in their small dining room beside the (frozen) pool. They were always willing to help - they hand out tourist maps and will trace a route to anywhere to help you find your way around. ||||We were there in February so the Temp dropped to about -6c outside overnight but rose to about 20c during the day, so expect cold mornings until the sun rises above the buildings. The town is beautiful in parts and the Cervantes links make the town centre interesting. It is also wonderful for Storks who nest on every roof (take a visit to the ruins of the Bishop's Palace). It is about 10 mins walk to the station with fast trains direct to Madrid and Aranjuez||||Not posh, but great value for money. Recommended

I must admit that I was a bit uneasy about calling the hotel to make a reservation instead of clicking on a booking link or having email correspondence. There was no need for concern. This is a REAL hotel with caring, helpful staff perfectly located in Madrid for sightseeing.||||The key is the owner, Señor Correa. He bought a pallacio 44 years ago and renovated it into a 43 unit hotel. Then he populated it with a breathtaking assortment of antique furniture and ORIGINAL paintings spanning the 17-20th centuries. Some of the furniture actually belonged to kings and queens of Spain. He even has a piece from Napoleon III. This man genuinely cares about his guests and makes every effort to serve them. He speaks Spanish, French and English, but only works there in the mornings. The rest of his staff speak Spanish, so if you don't you'll have to call quite early for North America (we got up at 4am) to make our reservation.||||Mr. Correa has a wealth of knowledge about the city and is more than willing to help with travel plans. There is a breakfast room downstairs with an open access computer and free breakfast rolls. Nothing special about the pastries, but gratis, the cappuchino machine often requires exact change, but works well.||||Our room was clean and the maid tidied it every day, replacing spent supplies. There was a nice bar fridge that was just fine for storing groceries from the nearby Dia market. MANY good places to eat surrounding the hotel. It is also surrounded by bars and clubs, so it can be noisy - especially on weekends. I'd suggest a room not facing the square and earplugs.||||The wifi was pretty good in the hotel, but our wing was dead. I'm a computer guy, so I informed the owner of the specifics just before we left. Honestly, it just wasn't a big deal to us to walk into the lobby or break room to check emails.||||The two double beds in our room were smaller than their North American counterparts, so we shoved the beds together. Very tall folks might find them too short. Storage and outlets were well thought out. The batheoom was clean and well appointed, though compact. It appears they use a different plumbing standard for drains (no traps), so there is a faint odor of sewer gas if you don't plug the tub or sink drains.||||Recommended. A genuine bargain at about 45€ per night.

The week I spent at the Don Juan I will always be a fond memory. The rooms are split between the hotel and hostel buildings (next door to each other) and I ended up staying in an upper, private room in the hostel while others I was traveling with stayed in the hotel. The owners were incredibly kind and happy to attempt to understand my broken Spanish. The breakfast each morning was quite delicious and well worth the cost. The room was very clean and I would have no qualms about staying there in the future (also the hotel/hostel is located only a few minutes from Cervantes' plaza and the Universidad de Alcalá).

We stayed here for one night on our way back from Santander to the Costa Blanca. The room was very clean & comfortable with a large bathroom. A big bonus is the secure underground parking and it's also pet friendly. We would recommend this hotel to anyone looking to stay in this pretty town near to Madrid.

The staff is very friendly. The rooms were clean and cleaned every day. The furniture was a bit outdated but it's a hostel. My only real complaint is that the WiFi went out after my first night and never came back.

Really nice apartment, the Staff as well. Quite good location (close to the center) Breakfast for only 2.5€ :) Only 4 stars because the swimming pool wasn't open; a shame according to the weather, but I'll be back!

I would rate my stay higher except for the factor that the noise in the hallways was loud in the morning due to people going to breakfast. It was strange to hear the noise since I was as far away from the breakfast room as possible. ||||I stayed in the building next to the hostel (the same building where the breakfast is served in the mornings). I stayed on the top floor of this building in a decently sized room.||||The staff was VERY helpful and willing to help direct me to local sites of interest. As long as the morning noise is not a factor for you then I would highly recommend staying here!
