Hostal Garden by Refugio del Rio

We had a great stay here. We chose the hostel because of the proximity to the city center and because of the price, which was very low since we booked during the rainy season. The staff is very helpful and friendly and speaks good English. The rooms are very clean. They maybe lack a little decor, but we didn't mind. The kitchen is also clean, organized and well stocked for your cooking needs. There is a garden in the back which is well tended to, but we didn't spend too much time there because it's right next to a busy road, so there is some noise. There are two cats and one dog belonging to the hostel. They are well behaved and sweet, but if your don't like dogs or cats, you might consider another hostel. Booking tours at the reception is very convenient and worked flawlessly for us. There is a house with two rooms in the garden of the hostel. We stayed in there for one night. It doesn't have glas in the window, just wire. Also, there is no toilet there, so you have to walk to the main building. All in all, this room feels more like a tent than a full room. Be aware of that and check if you are getting this room if you don't like camping. However, switching rooms was absolutely no problem, the staff reacted perfectly.

Nice place, comfortable room (I stayed in a private bedroom) with view on the volcano! Friendly staff with a good sense of humour ! Bathroom could have been cleaner but probably related to people staying there more than a cleaning problem! I really enjoyed my stay (2 weeks)! Thank you very much!

Although we didn't sleep in this hotel we had a very pleasant experience. The girl at the desk was very courteous to us when we booked our shuttle to the volcano. She let us rest the two hours we had to wait. The bathroom was very clean. They have a very large common kitchen. The whole place feels like a castle, w a very serene feel of an old house, yet everything is renovated to latest standards.

Great hostel, most friendly and caring people and just an allround great atmosphere. The kitchen is well equipped for all guests, the entire place is cleaned every day multiple times a day, there is plenty of common rooms to meet other guests, a beautiful large garden full herbs, flowers, benches and hammocks. We booked the garden villa for little over a week during a Habla Ya course and did some hiking to the waterfalls.

Super amazing place! We wanted to stay one night and ended up staying four cause we didn’t want to leave! The rooms are simple but have enough storage space, even the dorm rooms are comfy and homey. The super big kitchen and separate dining and chill areas are very comfortable and great as well. There is a huge garden with lots of places to chill as well. We cooked almost every night, lots of great utensils, free coffee in the morning, they sell homemade oat cookies (milk-free) for 1.50 and pure cacao, what more do you want:) I would give 6 stars for the supppper friendly staff (and cute pets all around the hostel), they helped us with every single question about boquete we had and we did great trips every day! Felt like a new home!

I stayed in Boquete and in Hostal Garden by Refugio del Rio for some weeks as I also attended Spanish School. I absolutely loved this place. As the hostel just moved to a new property, everything is completely renovated. I stayed in a mixed dorm which is spacious and has a private bathroom. When a friend came to visit me, we changed our accomodation and moved to a private room with shared bathroom. The hostel offers you a lot of space to feel free or even to work in peace, but if you are looking for company, you will always find other guests you can have a chat with. They have huge common areas (one dining, two living) and a big and fully equipped kitchen as well as a huge and beautiful garden. The hostel cleaned every day, the shared areas such as kitchen and bathrooms are cleaned even several times per day. They offer lockers, towels and there is a security guy at nighttime. Everything in the town - such as supermarkets, restaurants, Spanish School or the central park - can be reached by foot within a few minutes. The staff is really friendly and helpful. The reception is open from 7am to 11 pm and the guys offer really good tour information and booking. I can highly recommend this place.

When I stayed there it was a quiet place. I stayed in a private room. The bathrooms are ok. WiFi is good. The kitchen is big and it has everything you need to cook. Clean place. Several areas to hung around. There are cats and dogs in the property but are easily avoidable. Staff is friendly. Excellent location near everything in town.

When I stayed there, the room was clean and service was good. Dorm sleeps around 8-10 persons but is very large (so not stinky). You feel like being in a 5* resort having a beer in the outdoor jacuzzi after a long day hiking.
