Hostal la Ruta

I ate dinner here to be able to park in their car park overnight. You need to explain to them so they give you the code which opens the key box at the entrance to the car park. There is a chain across and the key for the padlock is in the locked box. I ate their fabada, although it wasn't on the menu... it was so tasty and filling. Reasonably priced and washed down with a decent beer. I recommend this place. The girls at reception were extremely kind and efficient and one of the waiters spoke fluent English. A great place to eat, before, after or during the gorge walk!

While booking this place, I was a little worried as the star rating is low. But have no worries. It is very good place. There is no elevator, if I need to say something bad. And the food portions are HUGE. ||It is the last establishment in the little town of Cain de Valdeon and the best place to start your Ruta Del Cares journey. Every member of the staff does more than their duty. The young Argentinian co-owner started as the bar-man and now doubles as the cook. His wife is part of room service and cleaning staff. ||They are always smiling and ready to help. They even tried to cook me vegetarian fare which was not their in the menu. (disaster, but I did not mind as they really tried. Plus they were so embarrassed that they did not charge us!)||We stayed 2 nights here and have no regrets.||Do pet their old dog as much as you can.||And have a great walk across Cares.||LOVED the bathing salt and the HOT water after our walk!

Terrific hotel. Amazing staff and great food. Close to the best hiking trail in the area. We had to leave early in the morning and the staff left us a nice little breakfast for our journey out of the goodness of their heart.

I didn’t stay at the hotel, but I did eat at their restaurant. Their coffee was great, as well as our food that we ordered. Everything was homemade and reached our expectations. The service was good, and our waiter spoke English, which was amazing!!

Staff very friendly and helpful. Had a nice meal here after a long hike. Kitchens were closed in all hotels but staff here went out of their way to help a couple of starving walkers!

After a long hike through the Picos me and my boyfriend were welcomed by the kind and very service-minded, english-speaking Antonio, who moved some things around to check if there was something available for us. We got a very nice, cozy and clean ensuite room for a very reasonable price. Their Covid-precautions were also on point. The restaurant/bar/terrace offers everything from big dishes, snacks, and beverages for a good price in a very cozy atmosphere. We felt very welcome and will definitely stay there again, if we ever get to adventure through the Picos again :)

I went to la Ruta for lunch. Very attractive price for the quality and portion sizes. The staff is very kind and aware of your needs. I will come back for sure!
