I stayed here for 4 nights in February when I was visiting the area for work. It was warm and comfortable and I felt safe on my own. The area was very quiet. The decor is quite dated but for £18 a night, of course, that is no problem, What mattered was that the staff seemed to care about the stay and made efforts to make sure I had everything I need. The bed was comfy and the water was hot! It was very clean and an enjoyable stay. Muchas Gracias Hotel S'Algaret :-)

This is the first time we have stayed in a hostel, but as it had a pool and the rooms had their own balcony we decided to give it a go and were not disappointed. The rooms are basic and a bit dated, but this is a hostel so I was not expecting anything else. The rooms were large and the balcony pleasant to sit out and have a nightcap on. The hotel was quiet at night and backed onto a car park from where you could walk out into the countryside and pick up paths to Playa de Fornells and the Fornells tower and enjoy the spectacular coastline. The staff were perfectly pleasant and although we didn't end up using the pool, it looked clean and pleasant. We were perfectly happy with our choice. You go to Fornells for the food, with the money we saved on booking this place we were able to treat ourselves to caldareta one day - absolutely worth it. Oh and the location of the hostel is great, right in the centre of town, steps from the marina. I would definitely recommend this hostel to anyone travelling to Fornells on a bit of a budget. Oh and we had a room far end of the ground floor and had no problems accessing the wifi there.

Hostal Restaurant S'Algaret is right on the harbour front in Fornells, north coast Menorca. The hotel's own description is unassuming - it's so much better than it sells itself. The simply furnished rooms are large, with large bathrooms, full length wardrobes, a big private south-east facing terrace with table and chairs. There's a fridge in the room, A/C and plenty of space for suitcases. The busy restaurant is open from 8.00am until midnight with breakfast served until noon. The food we had there was excellent. Even the pool is better than it looks in the photos. Fornells was buzzing in August but there's still places to chill - walk out along the coast path to Playa de Fornells (there's a good sandy beach) or pick up the Cami de Cavalls and do some walking. The bus stop is just a few minutes away, but the bus timetable I downloaded didn't correspond with the actual times in any way...! Mao is 1/2 hour by taxi (30-40 euros, depending on port or airport) or one hour by bus (about euro 3.50). There are a lot of good seafood restaurants in Fornells - it's not cheap (anywhere with boats isn't cheap) but if you just want a pizza, tapas or a bocadillo there's plenty of options. Excellent cocktails on the roof terrace at Sa Taupa, almost next door. The nicest experience of all was the people in Fornells - gentle, friendly, kind people who made our Jammymoon very special. Tip - remember this is a hostal, so no pool or room service or exotic toiletries - just a fabulous, value for money hostal run by kind helpful people in a stunning location. And try the local Binifadet wine - superb.

We love this friendly family run hotel and restaurant in unspoilt and still rugged Northern side of Menorca. A great combination of popular local flavour with visitor service and appreciation. Good food, great location, nice little poolside, lovely big rooms and balconies without being unnecessarily plush, in a lovely village square harbour side setting. Can't understand why it only gets two star rating, don't be put off by that. Thanks Juan Carlos and Maria... We will be back ...

We had room 204 not far from reception however the wi fi signal was very hit and miss, but when I asked it was reset and then worked a bit longer. There seems to be a lot of building work that has just started behind the hotel, so from 08.30 to 17.00 during the week there is a constant noise with diggers etc; so beware as I think this could go on for a long time and is quite unpleasant. We did not use the restaurant other than for a drink because as with much of the rest of Fornells it is quite expensive. Staff were friendly enough and made you comfortable. Rooms basic but this is a hostal after all.

There is a mistake in the address: the hotel is not located in Mercadal but in the centre of Fornells.||||This is my favourite place so far. The staff is very helpful and flexible, the price is OK and the rooms are VERY quiet, I slept so well there! The bathroom is large and clean, there is also a bidet. The pillows are strange but incredibly comfortable if you don't like the flat, super-soft ones. Oh, and Fornells is really nice (but everything in Menorca is, after all).||||Only two complains I have: the swimming pool, though clean, was a bit cold and overly saturated in chlorine, and the restaurant is expensive and the quality is not up to the price. Breakfast is basic and expensive (cappuccino + croissant = 4,25 Eur) and fish is VERY expensive. So, definitely go there for your stay, but maybe go somewhere else for your meals. Not a problem though, the location is very central and there are plenty of options just out of the entrance. Also, the bar itself is quite good, so definitely a good place for a drink at evening.

The rooms are clean, a good size and very comfortable. Though not getting a sea view you overlook the garden and pool. Staff very friendly and helpful. The restaurant is very good too, but during this winter they are closing at 17:00 hrs.

After a very disappointing (and more expensive) stay in the Carema Club resort in Playas de Fornells, we decided to try the 'real' Fornells and were delighted with Hostal S'Algaret. Great location right on the harbour-side, busy pavement cafe/restaurant all day from breakfast onwards, clean and comfortable room. The rooms are set behind the hostal frontage, so have no sea view, but are all you need for a night or two visiting the town and the area. They even have a small swimming pool, although it is in shade for a lot of the day (at least it was when we visited in September).
