We stayed at Hostal Silvia for 8 days in January 2015. The casa is in a wonderful location in the beautiful Vedado in Havana. Everyone in this stunning casa was friendly and helpful--and made our visit very comfortable and welcoming. Silvia is very kind and all the staff in the casa seemed to go out of their way to ensure we were comfortable--breakfast was amazing with fresh fruit, bread, coffee and juices. Silva was very helpful in suggesting local places for dinner and drinks. I would highly recommend staying here--when I am back in Cuba I will certainly return.

My husband, my mother-in-law and I stay in this beautiful place 7 days. The house is magnifique, the breakfast was perfect: fruits, fresh guayaba juice, coffee, toast, homemade jam, butter, milk, eggs; the rooms were clean. The house is placed in a wonderful neighborhood. We walked a lot, but every time we need a taxi, we found one at 23 and Paseo, just one block away from the home. Silvia, the owner of the Hostal, is great, and she is taking care of every detail. It was my four trip to Havana, before I stay at hotels (Vedado, and Meliá Habana), after stay at the Hostal Silvia, I will never stay in a hotel in Havana. The whole experience was perfect.

We loved our stay here!||||We spent 1 night in the main house upstairs, as our requested room was not ready until the next night. The remainder of our time was spent in the upstairs room in the small coach house next door to the main house. I recommend booking the coach house if possible. It is more spacious and private. ||||The house is a beautiful classic home, like many of the homes in Vedado. I enjoyed having breakfast in the dining room each morning with the other guests. And having coffee in the front sunroom was a nice way to start the day. ||||Silvia was very kind to us. When my husband got sick, she made him a special meal and gave him some medicine. You can have your laundry done for a small fee, and your room is cleaned each day. Our Spanish is pretty terrible, but we had no problems staying here and we managed to communicate still. ||||The breakfast that is provided is also very good. We were given eggs, ham, fruit, and toast each morning. Nicely done.||||If you are unsure about whether to stay here or in a hotel, stay at Hostal Silvia! It is a much better experience.

My husband and I stayed for 3 nights with Silvia at her beautiful place. It was simply wonderful. Clean room, private bathroom and lovely sitting areas. What made it even more special was her warmth and generosity in helping us to make phone calls and navigate. Breakfast is delicious and hearty with fresh eggs - my husband explained what Americans refer to as "over easy" and freshly squeezed guayaba or pineapple juice. Highly recommended.

Stayed in this beautiful house in January 2015 with two friends. We had one room on the second floor with one twin bed and one lofted full-sized bed with private bathroom and a small terrace overlooking the street. Our third friend had his own room on the ground floor, also with a private bathroom. They kept the mini fridges stocked with bottled water and beer each day. A/C in both rooms, though it wasn't necessary in January. Beautiful rooftop terrace overlooking Vedado, which is a peaceful residential neighborhood. The house is within walking distance of the Malecon and Hotel Nacional. ||||Silvia is a lovely host and she and her family have meticulously restored this house over the years. It was originally owned by a Spanish doctor who moved to Cuba in the 1920s. Silvia doesn't speak English but her daughter speaks a little and we managed just fine with some broken Spanish. She set us up with a taxi to the bus station on our last day and got up very early to make us coffee before we left. ||||Recommend eating at La Maraleja, a great paladar at calle 25 between I and J, within walking distance. In Old Havana try Doña y Utemias. ||||If you're flying to Havana, just get a taxi when you arrive at the airport, no need for advanced accommodation. It should cost 25CUC.

the location of this house is perfect since you can see a lot of historical places only few streets away. Amazing house, very clean and with air conditioner. Silvia was very welcoming and she helped us to book a taxi to the airport , recommended restaurants and some interesting places to visit . The breakfast was amazing.

Myself and 3 friends have just returned from our holiday in Cuba, we were arriving 29th December 2015 in Havana. My friend had booked Hostal Silvia in July, planning well ahead as December/January are busy tourist months. Two rooms were confirmed for 5 nights then. We did not realise you need to pretty much become the Casa owners pen pal and stay in regular contact to keep the booking. Prior to our trip my friend emailed the Casa to confirm the arrival time/taxi etc and we were told that because she hadn't heard from us she had given the room away. However, we had not heard from the Casa either to ask if we were coming. Perhaps slightly cynical we wondered if she had a better booking perhaps for longer or for more rooms. ||||We had 2 weeks to organise alternate accommodation, most Casas were booked. Silvia did offer us another Casa (no pictures, no website....no idea what we were letting ourselves in for). The only accommodation we found in the end, after a few other mishaps along the way, was a run down hotel under renovation. It was overpriced due to the time of year and definitely not the personal Casa experience we hoped for.||||If Sylvia had told us she had given the booking away earlier I'm certain we would have found another Casa. ||||Unreliable host, I wouldn't book here.
