"Lunch at Hostaria Borromei Tucked in an alley near the historic downtown you'll find this small restaurant serving traditional, regional dishes (at a great price especially for the area). With open-air courtyard seating surrounded by vines, it makes for a relaxing lunch. For the best and freshest thing on the menu, take advantage of the friendly staff and ask for a recommendation– they'll point you in the right direction. If you're like me and spend the entire day walking until you're ravenous, this is a great place close to the Duomo. Try the stuffed zucchini flowers (one of my favorites in any Italian restaurant)!"

It was a fantastic experience. Raw seafood appetizer was amazing. The rest of our food was very good. It’s a lively place. Reservations are necessary for dinner. The waitstaff are proud of their business and are very cordial. I would go back there on our next trip to Milan.

Located not far from the Duomo, this is a typical neighborhood hostaria with good Italian food. It is mainly a fish restaurant and everything they offer is delicious. Their pasta varieties with seafood , such as pasta with lobsters or clams , are also very good. But a simple pasta with tomatoes and basil or pasta with eggplants are as delicious. They offer a basket full of different types of bread freshly out from the oven and you can simply eat only bread and be completely happy. As for the fish, you can see them displayed at the entrance and make your choice, be it sea beam or seabass or whatever is fresh that day. They tastefully grill them and offer them with vegetables and roasted potatoes. As a desert, Their home made citrus sorbet is very successful.

Excellent food. $$$. Garden. We were 9 and shared many dishes. I enjoyed most the the t-bone steak and fried frutti del mare-delicious. Perfect steak tartar and fresh salmon in marinate-pics. The grapa is 50 %! Dolci-try the chocolate cake . English speaking male waiters, these people love what they are doing. Stongly recommend. Reservation needed.

My husband and I had a wonderful dinner at this nice restaurant. It's out of the way and very intimate feeling. We shared a starter of grilled octopus which was absolutely delicious . My husband had the tuna for his entree and I had sea bass. Both of our meals perfect but I think mine was just a bit better than his. We shared a nice bottle of wine recommended by our waiter. Our bill was only around 130 euro which I don't think is too bad for Milan. I definitely recommend this restaurant!

I've celebrate here my birthday with family and friends and we had fantastic time! It was a memorable meal, well presented and accompanied by many bottles of very good Italian wine! Excellent food. Garden. We were 9 and shared many dishes. I enjoyed most the the t-bone steak, ossobuco, tagliata di manzo, fried frutti del mare -delicious and fresh salmon in marinate-pics. Dolci - must try the chocolate cake and tiramisù . English speaking male waiters, these people love what they are doing. Strongly recommend. Reservation needed. Marvelous food, ambiance and evening. I'd go back without a doubt! Thank you Hostaria Borromei for making my birthday evening special!

Enjoyed Hostaria Borromei. Service was very good, food was even better. I would definitely recommend. Can get a little gusty on the street so inside might be a better option, plenty of room in the long space. It's much quieter than other area options.

This restaurant is a quiet oasis on a side street in Milan (our hotel clerk had never heard of it!). It was warm, so we were able to eat in the atmospheric vine -covered courtyard. We were looking for good Milanese food and found it here. There was no molecular gastronomy or deconstructed dishes- just great food in a great setting. The staff were lovely and attentive. We were started off with a complimentary glass of prosecco. We shared an order of the salame with fried cheese to start. It was excellent. We split two pastas- the spaghetti with pesto sauce and the excellent rigatoni with eggplant and cheese. We loved our main courses. My buddy and I enjoyed our veal Milanese (which is served without salad on top in Milan, more like Italian wiener schnitzel or tonkatsu). Our wives had the branzino baked in potatoes, which they loved. We split a very nice bottle of vino nobile di Montepulciano for E 30, which was reasonable. Overall, this was exactly the kind of meal we were looking for, in an excellent setting.

Very nice classical Italian dining, on a vine covered interior court yard, on a quiet street. We split the antipasti of cheeses and cured meats which was great, with good artisan bread. My wife had the torteloni with cheese filling, I had the Oso Buco with saffron risotto both of which were exceptional. The wine list is great, and reasonably priced. The service was professional and friendly. The room at 7pm started out mostly filled with Americans, but by 10pm it was mostly Italian -- a good sign that you are not in a tourist restaurant. A great find. Highly recommended.

Good service, fair food and wine. Had the apple tart with ice cream for dessert - tart was put in the microwave to reheat which made the consistency very unpleasant and the caramel on it was burnt, sad ending to an ok experience.

I asked our hotel's front desk to recommend a restaurant that wasn't touristy and great food. They recommend this restaurant that was filled with "foreigners". The locals didn't arrive until much later. The food was awful. The taste, the presentation. It just wasn't what we expected. The service on the other hand was wonderful so maybe it was a bad night or we ordered the wrong things. But each dish was bad.
