Hostel Amazing Ionika

What a nice little hostel in the center of Chișinău! The staff were friendly and very accommodating. The hostel had good amenities, like a fully equipped kitchen, and was quite clean. The location was also a highlight, with great local restaurants, bars, grocery stores, and most landmarks and activities close by. The hostel also offers tours to Transnistria, which turned out to be one of the highlights of my trip. Overall, I highly recommend this gem of a hostel!

I stayed at the hostel for just one night. The next day, after checking out, I went to Tiraspol for the day, and they kindly let me leave my luggage at the hostel until I returned. On top of that, I had to catch a bus that same night at 1 a.m., and they allowed me to wait there and use the facilities if I wanted until it was time to leave. Rubens, the owner, is an amazing guy, and all the girls at the reception are very helpful. The hostel is really nice, super clean, and very well located. Totally recommended!

Loved this hostel. At a time where so many corporate chains are taking over the industry, it's so nice to see a locally owned, unique, and well-decorated hostel. The staff were friendly and everything was clean. They go above and beyond to reach out to you and ensure you have a good experience. They even called a taxi for me at 5 AM for my flight. Great location as well, within a 20 minute walk of basically everything you could want to do in the city.

So friendly and pleasant owner, super service 😍. Checked in us early without any problems. Pleasantly surprised that towels was included. I know that some hostels take extra pay for it. Also so nice that there is a separate room for women with shower. And it's so clean and comfortably 🤗. Thank you for warm welcome 🙏

There is really nothing bad I can say about my stay there. I was there for 3 nights, in a private room. I had everything I needed and the hostel is well located. It wasn't noisy. The staff is very friendly and willing to help anytime. The owner would do really anything to make his guests happy. I would definitely go back there.

I really enjoyed my stay at this hostel. The interior design is very nice and gives the place a cozy yet modern feel. My room was spacious and comfortable, and the location is excellent – close to everything important. The biggest highlight, however, is the owner – incredibly kind, helpful, and welcoming. He really makes the place special. I also took part in two tours organized through the hostel and they exceeded my expectations. One was a trip around the beautiful Moldovan monasteries and wineries, and the other was across the Dniester – both absolutely worth the price and truly unforgettable experiences. Highly recommended!

This is the Best Hostels I’ve Stayed In – Ionika Hostel is a Gem! I stayed at Ionika Hostel for four nights and honestly, the only regret I have is not staying longer. Everything about this place—from the atmosphere to the people who run it—is warm, personal, and thoughtfully done. If you’re heading to Chișinău, this is THE hostel to book. 🛎️ Impeccable Pre-Arrival Communication Even one month before check-in, I received a friendly WhatsApp message from the hostel. They shared super helpful information about Moldova, transportation, currency, weather, local food, and more. It was the kind of proactive, responsive communication you rarely see even in 5-star hotels. ⸻ 🍷 Unforgettable Tours with Ruben I joined two incredible tours run by Ruben—one to Transnistria, and one to a local winery. Both were well-organized, deeply informative, and full of character. • The Transnistria tour was surreal and full of stories, history, and hidden spots. • The winery tour wasn’t your typical tourist trap. Ruben took us to small, family-owned places, where we drank generous amounts of wine (and spirits!), learned from local winemakers, and had tons of laughs. There were so many great photo opportunities, and Ruben also shared insider tips that made the experience feel personal and real. You can tell he genuinely enjoys what he does. ⸻ 👨‍💼 Andrew – Calm, Cool, and Incredibly Helpful Andrew might come across a bit mysterious at first, but he’s one of the most grounded and kind-hearted receptionists I’ve ever met. He helped with airport pickup, gave me local recommendations, and every time I felt tired after walking around town, I could just message him and he’d help me call a taxi within minutes. He even opened a bottle of red wine for me late at night and suggested a fantastic local barber nearby. Just a calm, consistent presence who always makes sure you’re comfortable. ⸻ 🏡 The Hostel Itself • Clean and cozy rooms • Chill common areas • Good Wi-Fi • Lockers and space to spread out • And a nice vibe that makes it easy to meet people, but also fine to relax quietly if you want. ⸻ 💬 Final Thoughts Ionika Hostel doesn’t feel like a hostel—it feels like a small community of thoughtful hosts who actually care. Everything is done with attention to detail, and the human warmth is something you won’t forget. Would I recommend this place? Absolutely—without hesitation. Would I come back? In a heartbeat. The name says it all… The hostel is Amazing. If you don’t have long in Moldova, you need to stay here. Especially if you only have a couple days because with the tours from the hostel, you can see a little bit of everything Moldova has to offer and still have a day free for the city. It’s safe, colourful, friendly, clean, quiet and full of great helpful people. In fact I’m writing this review while still staying there, 6 days after I was supposed to leave because it’s so nice I don’t want to go. It’s in a great location, 3 mins from a supermarket and 10 mins from either of the two best public parks. It’s very easy and simple to find and reach from the train or bus station also, it’s set back from the street so it’s private, quiet, there’s no traffic noise and you get a much nicer homely feeling to the place. You’re also given a towel and a pair of slippers in exchange for a deposit. A smoking area, plenty of outside space to dry your clothes, a big and well equipped kitchen with a fridge, water filter and nice communal eating space, plenty of upstairs lounge area to chill out in and there’s even a TV. Though there’s only 4 showers and 2 bathrooms it never feels like too little and you’re rarely waiting long. The dorm rooms are great, they maximise the space without it being too overcrowded and you’re given your own locker with a padlock. The best part is every bed has a curtain for privacy, plug sockets, reading light and little table. Mine even had a fan but there is air conditioning in the room they turn on and off when required. The design is also beautiful and interesting so no matter where you’re sat in the hostel you can be looking at something artistic. Staff are incredible! It’s a 24hr reception and no matter when you arrive they do all they can to get you settled if your bed isn’t ready. Before you arrive they send a text with tons of helpful information and you can contact them with help getting a bus or a taxi even before your arrival. You can store luggage and hang around the hostel, you’re given a map with everything worth seeing in the city and plenty of information about how to get to other places in Moldova. They’re very helpful with any question and nice to chill out with, often they’re happy to just chat with you. Valentina was super helpful when I arrived and Rubens has gone out of his way every day to make it a good experience for me and everyone else, even moving things around to accommodate me longer. The 2 tours Rubens runs from the hostel are popular, extensive and certainly worth it just to spend time with a nice guy if nothing else. He is Italian but speaks perfect English (I think Spanish) and Romanian. Everybody loves the tours, they cover all the highlights that most tourists want to see and just in 2 days you could visit nearly everything! As well as that you’re also fed and given a souvenir, driven in a private mini van from and back to the hostel where a bunch of friendly guests are hanging out chatting. Amazing Ionika is one of the best places I’ve stayed and I hope more people, not just in Moldova but everywhere, follow Rubens’ lead and make beautiful spaces like this.
