The 5 Best Hostels in Helsinki (Updated 2025)

"Set in a beautiful old building in central Helsinki, this cozy hostel has high ceilings, spacious dorms, and a tidy, homey vibe thanks to a super-friendly 24/7 reception. Bunks are basic but practical, with a power outlet and reading lamp beside each bed (no privacy curtains), and the showers have excellent water pressure. Because it’s relatively small and lacks a proper common room aside from a kitchen that closes at 11pm, I found it better suited to travelers seeking a quiet, low-key stay in the city center; single rooms are available too." - Matthew Kepnes

I stayed here for 6 nights in September 2025, and am pleased that I chose this hostel. It's very conveniently located - it's walking distance from the central train station, main shopping area, Kamppi shopping centre (for coaches to Porvoo), multiple tram stops (for getting to the harbour for a day trip to Tallinn), and multiple supermarkets. The reception is staffed 24/7, so I was able to check in after midnight following my late night flight. The hostel was very clean and tidy - the staff did a good job of keeping the kitchens and bathrooms clean at all times. The staff were also friendly and welcoming, and they kindly offered to store my bags after check out. This isn't a party hostel, but it is perfect for people who want a quiet and comfortable place to relax after a day of sightseeing. People generally weren't very talkative in the kitchen, but I met some nice people in the dormitory. Compared to other places in Helsinki, I think the price of my stay was very fair given the standard of the accommodation, and I would definitely stay here again!

This is a very nice hostel in a central location. The common area is exceptional with coffee and cooking supplies. Also the staff will do your laundry for you for a small fee. (For those taking large trips that is a huge feature.)

This is in a great location with tons of restaurants, cafes, and shop. The hostel employees were super nice. They helped me with needing a bed on the bottom next to the window for medical reasons. I also needed a fan even while it was snowing and they produced one upon my arrival. I’ve been here twice now and intend to be back each time I’m in Helsinki. The vibe is cozy

Excellent location and old building, old furniture. Definitely good choice for people who want to save money staying in the city center. But beds are old, two stores, old towels and old furniture, used by a lot of people for many years. I stayed in room number 6, and you can hear everything in the corridor and behind the walls there, hear from your bed other guests talking behind the wall. The private light in my bed didn't work so I asked to change the bed and had to take the second floor bed (my was on the first floor with broken light and no ability to read). After the guest from Germany left I tried to take her 1st floor bed (because no-one was going to repair my light) and the girl-administator seemed so tired of her work that said I "don't have to change so many beds". I paid 32 euro a night, 4 nights stay (124 euro). LGBT-flag is at reception but the schedule with tourist events happening in the city is in the corner in the kitchen. If you don't use the kitchen you won't find it, so I have missed a lot of interesting events my first days. As for me as a tourist it is better to put the flag in the kitchen but tourist information about events nearby the reception entrance. I have asked about tourist information at reception on the first day I came but all I have got was the city map (which I also have in Google maps in my phone). The kitchen is closed 23:00-5:00 so you can't even take a cup and drink water from the tap in the kitchen at 23:15. No lift, 3d floor, but that is also because the building is old in the city center. I will stay in this hostel again if I do a transit and need to sleep nearby the busstation (10 minutes walk on foot from it).

Management is very arrogant . It feels similar to be like in jail staying in this hostel . Very unfriendly environment. Total waste of money .

Reasonable price. Very comfortable. Homely atmosphere. Why would you waste money going to a fancy expensive hotel when this place is available? Will definitely be back
