I have mixed feelings about this hostel.
Upon arriving in Florence, I came here first from the train station. It's just a few minutes away and easy to find with large signage. I asked the front desk about their pricing and satisfied with their quote, if I could see a room. I was not allowed to see any of the rooms...only pictures from the staff member's laptop. Hostel policy apparently??? I stayed elsewhere instead.
A few nights later, I came back and stayed for one night after the other hostel that I was staying at pushed up their prices. It was 20 Euros with breakfast included for a three-bed room(no bunks).
First impressions: they have a nicely decorated entrance area, complete with five computers for guest use. Luggage storage is opposite the front desk in an unsecured room.
The room was spacious, a nice change of pace from the dorms I'd grown accustomed to. Three regular beds with spacious ensuite bathroom. I could tell that the room had been thoroughly cleaned. Strangely, there was a computer inside the room which was a nice touch. Each guest had their own large locker inside the room for their valuables, but it was also large enough to fit an entire backpack. They offer a wash/dry service here for eight Euros, a little steep compared to other places I stayed.
The staff here are a mixed bag. So often on my trip what made a huge difference to my stay was not the accommodation itself but how the staff treated guests. Check-in is reasonably late here at 2:30. On the afternoon of my stay I came back to the hostel specially to do so, and got my things organized in the room. I came down not long after and asked the staff member if they had any hand soap for our washroom. His response? "This is not a hotel". I kid you not. Unfortunately, they were just as helpful with city recommendations, and the map provided was not much better. There were no walking tours, pub crawls or other activities offered by the hostel during my stay.
Wifi on the property was excellent, with individual electrical plug-ins beside each bed. There wasn't much of a social vibe at the Archi Rossi. Common areas are a little scarce. There was a terrace outside our room but the few times I passed by it was overrun with smokers(and in their absence cigarette butts). On that note, I read that they have a 'quiet policy' at night somewhere in their literature. Unfortunately it is not enforced. There was lots of noise in the hallway and outside my room from midnight to past one.
I was pleasantly surprised by the breakfast offered. Scrambled eggs, meat, beans, toast, apples, oranges, tea, coffee and pastries are all available.
I would stay here again, hoping that my experience with the staff would improve on a second visit.
