Martin was the best host, we had to stay here after an unexpected return from the mountain. Martin could not do enough for us and it really felt like home. Breakfast and dinner were included and we're simple and lovely. For a hostel, the beds were amazing, so comfortable. Cannot recommend enough.

The five of us spent two nights here at the beginning of March and used it as a base to do some great walks in the area, including the day walk to the Aconcagua base camp. The place was easy to reach by car from Mendoza. It was a great little refugio in an otherwise quiet Penitentes at that time of the year.||What made our stay deserve a 5 star rating was our host Martin. We were his only guests at the time and he made us feel at home from the minute we walked in. He gave us great recommendations on the area and was very accommodating when we wanted to have a BBQ on our first night with the food we had with us. The second night he prepared us a very tasty traditional Argentinean meal. The terrace in front of the hostel was a great place to have a few drinks after a good day of walking, whilst enjoying the sun going down behind the beautiful surrounding mountains.||I would definitely recommended staying with Martin in Penitentes, no matter what time of the year!

I stayed here before and after climbing Aconcagua solo. Nothing fancy which is perfect for me, felt at home here. Great place for independent climbers and travelers on a budget to stay. I met other solo climbers both times I stayed here. Great host, Martín, was great to talk with and made good dinner for a little extra price. Recommended!

Stayed here after an expedition on Aconcagua after it was recommended by a local guide. Great location and good value for money. Food was great and Martin really made me and my cousin feel welcome. I would love to return if I am in the area again and I would 100% recommend to anyone wanting a home from home with great acsess to treks and Aconcagua. Thank you for your hospitality Martin!

Given that you are in the middle of nowhere when staying in Penitentes you'd hope that a hostel owner would be accommodating, what we found was an unwillingness to let us relax with our own supplies and when we went back to pick up our bags and use the bathroom before our bus we were told we would need to pay 120 pesos for that luxury! The stay could have dramatically been improved if owner treated people their as his guests rather than a way to make extra money. The rooms are cramped and the mattresses sink/very old. Breakfast is only bread and jam, dinner okay - no idea where the $500 peso a night go. Also there is a cat that roams freely into the dorms and we were often awakened by it coming in and sitting on our heads/beds- when you have an allergy like myself it would be nice to be told.

Bastante desprolijo.
