Hostel Casa Ridgway

We had a wonderful stay at Casa Ridgway. We were a high school group of 17 students and 5 adults. The accommodations were very comfortable and community-oriented; we appreciated the simple breakfast that was included and the spaces for meeting together as a group. It was also wonderful to be supporting the work of the Friends Center for Peace while staying in an amazing and safe location in the city. Any questions we had were responded to quickly by staff; there were plenty of bathrooms and they had hot water for showers. We will definitely come to stay here again!

I had a great time at this hostel. The people are super friendly and very helpful with any kind of problem. Everything is clean and furnished with lovely details. The mindset and social mission especially for indeginous people is part oft what i like most of this hostel. You can reach almost every important place of San José on foot or by bus and it's a pretty quiet and friendly neighborhood. Huge recommendation for this hostel. I loved to stay there with a group of volunteers and I am excited for the next seminar, that will be there again.

The Casa, Ridgway hostel is part of the Center for Peace in San Jose, Costa Rica. The staff were amazing and kind and made sure I had everything I needed. They made a beautiful breakfast and honored the fact that I am vegan. I really felt the historic presence of the place. |This is a home away from home! Deep gratitude and love… and Peace!

As my 1st accommodation in Costa Rica they set the standard so high it went unmatched for the 3 weeks I stayed in the country. Although not modern, it features sizable dorms, comfortable beds, has no lockers but clothes hangers are available and valuables may be stored in a specialised room. Pretty good breakfast, decent shared kitchen with an impressive spice rack, stable wi-fi. All that, however, is just facilities. What truly makes the property stand apart are the staff and especially its manager, with his insights into local culture, support, and warmth. The fact that the building also houses a local NGO makes the place even more dynamic and provides opportunities for some interesting conversations.

I stayed here for a total of 3 nights (1 night when we got to San Jose, 2 nights mid-trip). It was perfect! The rooms are clean and the breakfast is delicious! The shower has excellent water pressure and is warm. It is a very secure hostel. We felt safe and received a warm welcome each time we came. The location is off a main street so it is quiet. However, it is close to the San Jose shopping district (10 minute walk), museums (5 minute walk) and lots of fun bars and restaurants. If you looking for a reasonably priced, basic hostel with a mission, Casa Ridgway is the perfect place! We hope to come back some day!

Good, cheap Hostel. Friendly staff. Breakfast isnt the best but Everything Else is Fine:)

I stayed here 6 nights and it was an absolute pleasure. The hostel is located in a small street leaving it pretty quiet (except for the distant honking of the train). It is only 2 blocks from the mainroad and within walking distance of the main attractions in San José. ||The staff is extremely nice and helpful, and the overall atmosphere is very tranquil. ||The hostel is part of the Friends for Peace organization and there are occasional meetings in the kitchen area and the adjacente meeting center.||The kitchen is pretty big and has nice pots and pans to use. The stove is electric so it takes a little longer to heat your water, but there's no rush here. ||I found my stay extremely comfortable and would definitely return here if I ever come back to Costa Rica.
