The 8 Best Hostels in Tokyo (Updated 2025)

"I found Chapter Two to be a small, family-run hostel near Skytree Station in Asakusa with a real social feel thanks to a shared kitchen and common room; the dorms are modern, immaculate, and well equipped, and you can book a deluxe pod that offers a partitioned-off bed with partial walls and a privacy curtain as an alternative to open-concept bunks. It also caters to digital nomads with a co-working space and has a rooftop patio for relaxing and mingling, though be aware they sometimes enforce two-night minimums." - Matthew Kepnes

Hostel is not too big, but is very social and has a nice communal area in the old garage. Staff is great, especially Erika, I love you! Dormitories with good privacy, everything super clean, great simple breakfast for 500 yen. Location is extremely good in Asakusa, next to the river and 200m from metro Asakusa station. Highly recommended

(Didn't get to take much photos due to my phone having not much memory) But, I have to say this is one of the best hostels I have ever stayed in! First: The location was great just about 3 or 4 minutes walk from the station(depending on how fast you walk I guess 😂) and it's close to the attractions around Asakusa and the owner has great recommendations(that you scan with a QR code) Second: The staffs were great! Very friendly and speaks really good english! Third: The rooms, I booked a bed with a view and it was the best thing ever! Having a view of the river and the skytree at night was lovely ❤️ the bed was really comfortable for me and spacious since I am quite petite. Had the best sleep ever! Everyone was so quiet at night that it was easy to fall asleep. I almost didn't go out much just enjoying the view from my bed lol. Fourth: the lounge area was really nice too, very comfy and relaxing, although, for tall people you may have to bend down a lot to access the other side of the lounge lol but again, no problem for me since I am short. Now for some cons in my honest opinion, The shower room and bathroom can be a bit too hot since it's summer so just be aware of that, it isn't air-conditioned inside. Stairs. Though I had no problem with it because I only had a backpack and some bags that I can carry. For people with big suitcases though may be a bit difficult. The staff will help to bring your stuff up though. That's about it, overall this hostel is highly recommended! Get the one with the view of the river! Oh and I forgot to mention, the stairs for the upper bunk bed are a great design, most hostels have ladders but this one had actual steps to the upper bunk which is a huge plus for me since I really don't like climbing up ladders lol and this is irrelevant but I was assigned to the bed no. 8 which is my favourite number lol loved it so much! Anyway, this is a long post. Thank you Chapter Two for my very comfortable stay! Will definitely come back again! And thank you for offering me an early check-in, saved me from the heat of the sun! ❤️

My underwear was stolen there.. Maybe they should provide big lockers for people. Apart from that it’s a really nice and clean hostel. Loved the rooftop and the breakfast.

Location-wise you’re close to the tokyo metro so that’s a plus. You get what you pay for. The room was a little bit cramped for a group of four but I kind of expected it already. Everything else was top notch. Amenities are available and it was nice to have a coin laundry within the hostel although the dryer was not in perfect condition. The roof top has a beautiful view of Skytree and finally the staff were very helpful and accommodating.

I stayed here for 4 nights and enjoyed my stay. I appreciate and very thankful to Hiro (owner) for his quick thinking and sending me a message to double check if I had forwarded my luggage, as the service carrier I used did not ask me for my name and my luggage almost got sent back to Kyoto! The staff are wonderful and they help you with your luggage. You are also able to store your luggage if you have a late flight! The hostel is close to everything such as Sensoji-temple, convenience store, restaurants etc. The rooftop is also very nice especially at night!

Very convenient location for easy arrival from the airport by metro as well as into the site seeing parts of the city. (Asakusa station) The rooftop terrace was a great place to have a quiet snack and a chat. It has a great view of the rover and Tokyo Tower.

The rooms were very clean, we stayed in the private room. Bathrooms were constantly being cleaned, everything was absolutely perfect during our stay. We loved the rooftop patio. The location is extremely convenient as well. Thank you to the staff that carried out bags up and down the stairs!
