I stayed at this hostel for its convenient price and good location for exploring the Izu Peninsula, with easy access to Tokyo and onward travel. Booking was easy through Booking.com, and communication with the staff via the app was smooth. The room was very clean and comfortable. Even in the shared rooms, the pods felt relatively spacious and private. The fan in each pod is a great idea, as it helps a lot with airflow. Laundry facilities were available, and the kitchen was clean, comfortable, and well-stocked. The onsen next door was wonderful, and the towels and bags provided by the hostel were really useful. Jamie gave us some great recommendations for places to eat when we arrived. We loved exploring Shuzenji Onsen, and took a day trip to Kawazu Nanadaru by bus. Thank you very much for everything! We had a wonderful stay 😊

Stayed in the twin room at hostel knot for one night. Hostel was very nice, good location, comfortable, clean, and front desk helped us make arrangements around town like dinner reservations. Only odd thing was we were abruptly asked to leave the next day when we were waiting for our bus which was a bit odd since they had been friendly the rest of the time

I stayed for 5 nights at Hostel Knot because it was an affordable option in the onsen town. The room was nice and clean, although it did get a little warm. I appreciated having a free hot spring available for guests, and the overall cleanliness of the facility was commendable. The staff was amazing and helpful, especially with advice on getting around Izu using the bus and recommendations on places to visit. With the bus, it was possible to go sightseeing, although some destinations were a bit far, which was manageable with the 3-day bus pass. The hallway in the sleeping area felt cool with AC, but the bed area got a little warm. Maybe having some fans available for guests to use would help improve comfort.

A lovely little hostel right in the middle of the onsen town, a perfect location and a great twin room, my first time in a traditional style room and it was comfortable and quiet. Close to the bus to and from the main town you could easily make this your base camp for multiple days of travel around the area. I only stayed for a single night but I felt so welcomed and supported, the host gave me a list of restaurants, cafes and onsen in the area and times that they're open and was very responsive to any questions I had. The town itself is so beautiful and serene, you can walk anywhere and see something interesting, even if you visit for only one night it's definitely worth it. Thank you so much for having me!

Since I only needed a place to stay during a cycle trip, I came with no expectations. The place is amazing! At the heart of Shuzenji! Very lovely and hospitable staff, Jamie and Hey! So welcoming. The locals around were also quite hospitable. They were also so nice to drop me with my bicycle at Shuzenji station when I had to cancel the cycling trip due to heavy rain. Would love to go again and bring my friends along.

I stayed at Hostel Knot during a road trip from Ibaraki Prefecture, and it was a great find! The price was right, and it looked nice in the pictures. I didn’t know about Shuzenji or the famous onsen area beforehand so when I found out the hostel was located in the heart of this charming place, I was pleasantly surprised! I stayed in the women’s dormitory, which was very clean, and my capsule was comfortable. I went to bed early and couldn’t hear the other ladies coming in at all which tells me what kind of people the hostel attracts; courteous and respectful ones! The onsen next door had a charming old-fashioned vibe and was free to use if I brought the Hostel Knot provided bag and towel! It was small, just right for one person at a time. Perfect for me because of my tattoos! I used the shared space to look for dinner, and the staff helped me with a book of local restaurants and pictures! All of the staff members I met with could speak both Japanese and English. I indulged in some delicious soft serve from a nearby café, topped with azuki and black popped rice, and explored the city's history through an online map with English audio! This was very cool! I have already begun my plan to return for a multi-night stay once the weather cools! ☆

My husband and I stayed in a private Japanese-style room at Hostel Knot for 1 night in August 2025. It is a very cozy and well-located hostel for exploring Shuzenji. Check-in is 14:00-18:00, and check-out is by 10:00, though it is possible to drop off your bags before check-in. It is walking distance to all of the sightseeing locations in Shuzenji and many restaurants, although it is far from Shuzenji Station (about 42 min on foot or 17 min by bus, several bus lines, get off at 修善寺温泉). The staff was very friendly and helpful and gave many recommendations for restaurants and sightseeing in the area. Guests of Hostel Knot can use the onsen next door, 真湯 (Shin-yu,17:00-23:00) for free– it doesn’t appear on GoogleMaps because it’s only open to locals and the guests of Hostel Knot. The bath is small (3-4 people can fit) but clean and nice, with shampoo, conditioner, and body wash, although there is no shower there so you must wash with a bucket. It is also a natural source so you must add cold water with the faucet, otherwise it can be as hot as 60°C. Our private room had very comfortable futons with a small table, zaisu floor chairs, and great AC. The building is lovely with comfortable and spacious common spaces. There are board games and sightseeing pamphlets in the lobby downstairs, and desks with chairs upstairs. There are several Japanese-style washlet toilets, a shower with shampoo, conditioner, and body wash, and provided towels (more available for rental). For laundry there is a washer, a dryer, and a rooftop area with clips and hangers including a covered area so you can dry laundry even in the rain. The kitchen especially is great. There is a large shared fridge and freezer, microwave, toaster, hot water dispenser, stovetop, spices and oil, salt and sugar, pots and pans, cooking utensils, etc.. There is free filter coffee. Unfortunately there is no supermarket close by, at least on foot, so if you want to cook you should grab groceries near Shuzenji Station, or from the konbini about a 15-minute walk away. My only regret is that I did not spend multiple nights at Hostel Knot and Shuzenji. I hope to come back in the future.
