Hostel manicini is a 1-star hotel located in the gentrified, modern city centre of Naples. This is an unfortunate case where there isn't any one specific, big problem, but rather a bunch of small problems that add up and make the stay uncomfortable.
We stayed for two nights in a double room with a shared bathroom.
We arrived at early morning, and the hotel manager was kind enough to allow us to take coffee from the breakfast.
Our room was decent - it didn't have any special amenities, merely hangers and a small table. Later at night, we discovered problems:
1. The "shared bathroom" is quite literally one toilet and one shower+toilet, which are only cleaned once (!!!) a day.
2. In the sinks, there's no hand soap nor anything to allow you to dry your hands.
3. The floor is slippery and the only water absorbing mat is very small and stinky. Very, very stinky, to the point of unusabilty.
4. Even though you aren't officially required to leave your room if you're in a double room, the hostel is essentially unusable during that time. The cleaning lady didn't let us use the bathroom or gave us weird looks and was rude when I wanted to brush my teeth.
To deny acess to toilets is completely unacceptable, especially considering there aren't any other toilets available to guests except the ones they're assigned to.
5. The AC kept switching to low power mode by itself constantly and regardless of room temperature. It worked well when it did but it was very hard getting it to work for the whole night.
6. Rental towels are low quality and thin
Barely enough for tall people let alone ones with long hair.
7. Curtains were not dark enough to keep the light from outside out during the night. This was extremely disappointing to find out.
The location, as others pointed out, isn't the best there is. Some walk to Napoli centrale for metro and a lot of busses nearby, but the area is very dirty and essentially becomes a market during daytime at summer.
