I recently stayed at Hostel Mostel in the heart of Sofia, and overall it was a solid budget-friendly choice. The location is excellent — just a few minutes’ walk to many of the city’s main sights, bars, and transport links, which made exploring the city super convenient.
One of the highlights was the friendly and helpful staff, who went out of their way to make guests feel welcome and offered great local tips. The atmosphere in the common area was lively and social, perfect for meeting fellow travelers. There’s also free Wi-Fi throughout and some fun communal spaces which add to the backpacker vibe.
In terms of value for money, this hostel delivers — the prices are very reasonable for Sofia.
There are a few things worth noting, especially if you’re sensitive to comfort: some guests mentioned that shared bathrooms can feel a bit basic and occasionally humid, and cleanliness is ok but not luxurious — so it’s definitely more of a no-frills, authentic backpacker experience.
All in all, Hostel Mostel is a good pick if you want a social, central, and budget-friendly stay in Sofia. It’s not a luxury place, but it’s great for meeting people and getting to know the city without spending a lot.
