The 5 Best Hostels in Mexico City (Updated 2025)

"In an ideal spot between the historic center and the hip neighborhoods of Roma Norte and Condesa, I found Suites DF Hostel to be a quieter, cleaner option if you want to avoid a party hostel. The rooms are simple but bright (the bedsheets have fun designs), all dorms have en suite bathrooms and personal lights and outlets, and there are multiple common rooms plus a relaxing terrace. I appreciated the free Mexican-style breakfast and the wide range of organized tours they offer, including trips to the Teotihuacán pyramids, Xochimilco canals, and lucha libre matches." - Matthew Kepnes

Visited March 2024 This is not a party hostel or not even a really social hostel. They do have a terrace which you can socialize at but it can be hit or miss. Free breakfast is a good touch. The rooms / hostel itself are clean and well taken care off. The staff is nice. The area is a little run down , and beside it there is(or was) a reggae coffee shop. I would not come back but that's as I prefer more of a social vibe.

I enjoyed this hostel, made lots of new friends, both people staying there and working there. Free breakfast in the morning was a huge bonus as well. I enjoyed hanging out on the patio after returning from exploring the city. The beds weren’t the most comfortable, but for the price point I can’t really complain. Would stay here again!

Bed Bugs infestation: ||I really don’t like writing negative reviews and believe in compromise to work through a situation but during our stay suites DF in Mexico City, my friend and I experienced a series of unsettling events. It all began when we woke up with mysterious bites, which we initially dismissed as mosquito bites. However, the situation worsened when we discovered actual bed bugs crawling near us on the bed. We promptly brought one to the reception along with photographic evidence in the middle of the night.||The initial receptionist appeared concerned and quickly gave us keys to a different room opposite to ours. We meticulously checked the new beds for any signs of infestation and were disheartened to find bed bug eggs on them. After expressing our concerns about the situation and requesting our belongings to be washed and dried before leaving due to the risk of carrying the bugs with us, we were promised that our clothes would be taken care of in the morning, and let the receptionist know we would not be staying the next day.||Despite their initial assurances, things took a turn for the worse. The new room provided to us had its own set of issues, including an open condom wrapper under the mattress. Exhausted and frustrated, we decided to address the matter with the receptionist the next morning. A fumigator showed up in the morning which gave us hope that this was all going to be dealt with accordingly and said if everything ended up being okay we would not write a review.||However, things escalated when the day receptionist took over and we were left waiting without clear instructions. We were informed that we needed to take our belongings to a laundromat a few blocks away, which seemed unreasonable given the circumstances (two young female travellers in pjs that also needed to come off to get taken care of). After a conversation with the owner, we finally got assurance that our clothes would be washed and dried.||It should be noted that at 10AM (before checkout time) we went down to the day receptionist (not the one we spoke to at night) who said once our clothes were finished we could come down for our refund for the previous night and the night we would not be staying anymore.|The whole day was spent waiting for our items to be cleaned from 10-5 while we had to sit in only towels on the terrace with other people around. During this time the two initial rooms were being fumigated. Unfortunately, we realized that the room we had stayed in the night before was not properly cleaned, or fumigated, leaving us anxious about potential Re infestation for whoever stays there next. The majority of our things we were told had to be left in the room that was being fumigated so we could not use the room we payed for. Once our clothes were finally finished, we went back down to reception to ask about the refund again but were denied a refund for the unpleasant experiences and inconveniences faced. We felt disregarded and mistreated.||In the end, feeling frustrated and unsupported, realizing that the owner and reception did not care. The owner literally said he did not care about bad reviews. The entire ordeal not only ruined a day of our trip but also left a lasting impression of displeasure. Extremely disappointed in how the owner and reception as we were hopeful when we had first arrived that things would go well. A hostel needs to have precautions and steps taken after something like this happens, suites DF was not prepared and did not look out for us

BED BUGS !!!||||I wish I could say I had a good experience here. Staff at first were very friendly, the terrace was beautiful, and daily breakfast was great.||||At first I was not going to write a review because bed bugs are a common thing and often out of the hostels control when so many people come and go. HOWEVER, I woke up with bites all 3 days of our stay. I didn't see a bug until the 3rd night when I immediately went to reception at 2am and they moved me and my roommates....next door to a room with eggs. Again we switched and this time received a private room for my friend and I. Upon inspection for further bugs, we found an open condom wrapper under a mattress. This tells me that the room was NOT properly cleaned nor inspected before new guests. ||||It is important to note that reception told us our clothes could be cleaned before we would be leaving the next day. As we would obviously not be staying for our original plan of a 4 night stay.||||The fumigation team was there right away in the morning and we were assured it would be ok. The 1st 2 rooms we had found bugs/eggs were cleaned. The room that we had actually slept in (and potentially spread to) was not fumigated.||||We were then told that there was no way our clothes could be washed as laundry service was not available at this hostel. The man we'd spoken to the night prior was not answering his phone. We were told to go 2 blocks away and have a laundromat clean everything. Here we are in our contaminated pajamas being told to suck it up and deal. We explained that our current clothes would need to be done as well and they eventually agreed. So we spent all day 10am-5pm waiting for our clothes and bags to be cleaned as we sat in TOWELS with other guests present on the outdoor terrace. I will say the cleaning team was wonderful staying 2 hours past their shift to complete this for us on top of preparing other rooms for new guests. ||||We had told reception at 10am that we would not be staying our last night and that we would like to be refunded for this. (24 h notice is required and as checkout was at 11 and check in the following day was at 2 this was plenty of notice). We also requested a refund for our previous night as we did not sleep and it seemed unfair to us given the conditions.||||When we had packed our things and went down to turn in our keys, reception then told us it was too late. They claimed that because we had not turned in our keys or completely exited the rooms by 11am we were not eligible for a refund. HOWEVER all of our things were still in the room as it was fumigated and our laundry being cycled into the routines of the hostel prevented us from leaving any earlier. ||||My friend had a very serious conversation on the phone with the owner who said he did not care if bad reviews were left, gaslighting us saying that we brought it with us (that would not explain the eggs in the 2nd room), and overall being very passive aggressive toward us, 2 young female travellers. ||||This hostel needs to take accountability for this. And future travellers beware of management.

I had a nice time here. Common areas were nice places to relax and talk with other travelers. I appreciate the complimentary breakfast and coffee. Don't have many complaints about the room. I did like that there was one bathroom per each bunk room, so in my case it was four people for one bathroom. Water went out/lost pressure here and there. We would just request for more water at the front desk and it wasnt that big of a problem. I believe this is more of a city issue with water management than the Hostel's fault.

Fairly basic hostel in a great location. Perfect if you're not seeking luxury and just need a base for your stay in the city. Staff were friendly and helpful and the hostel has lots of options for relaxing. Rooms are quite basic.

Free breakfast. Decent wifi. Free coffee, water. Kitchen to use, if a bit small. Excellent staff, the best in Mexico and im going on 60 days. Excellent atriums and out door seating areas. The perfect location in Mexico City, near clubs, banks, restaurants, everything you can think of is 5 minutes away. The buildings location is right on Teran and next to Maria Sabina art club. Rooms are very nice, private baths and hot water. Its the best hostal I've stayed in. Mostly because of the staff, they know everything about Mexico City and other cities you should visit.

Good central location, stayed in a private double room which was large, clean, linen, towels, soap in bathroom. Seemed a sociable place too, can't comment on the noise that others have mentioned as we were there on a Sunday and Monday but was quiet enough while we were there. Breakfast was good too in the little kitchen, good chance to meet a few people and get wholesome food. Would recommend
