The worst hostel experience I’ve had in Europe so far.
I rarely leave reviews, but I felt compelled to share this due to how frustrating my stay was. I stayed in a 10-person mixed dorm. The only positive thing about this hostel is its central location—everything else was disappointing or outright unacceptable.
1. Cleanliness and Facilities
There are no curtains, reading lights, or clothes hooks by the beds, which are crammed together with barely any space. The room’s bathroom setup is extremely inconvenient: one tiny room with a sink, shower, and toilet shared among 10 people. Often, I had to go downstairs to use the public bathrooms, which were not clean either. There were barely any hooks in the bathroom, making it hard to hang clothes or towels.
Also, the hostel looks much nicer online than it does in person—I felt completely misled by the pictures on Booking.
2. Comfort and Practicality
Beds and lockers are not assigned—it’s a first-come, first-served system. I arrived to find my bed already taken by someone else. The reception staff initially promised to upgrade me to a 5-person female dorm, but later went back on that and asked me to stay in the same room, just offering to change the sheets. The upper lockers are extremely high and hard to reach as well.
The beds are old and unstable. Every time someone climbs to the upper bunk or moves around, the whole bed shakes. There’s also a big gap between the bed and the wall, which makes it easy to drop and lose things.
3. Unprofessional Staff
One of the female staff members (short hair) was particularly rude and unhelpful. The check-in process took nearly an hour, and she kept repeating phrases like “Do you understand?” in a condescending tone instead of helping resolve the issue. I felt very disrespected. In the end, the only options offered for me were downgrading to a larger dorm or upgrading at an extra cost. No compensation was offered.
4. Atmosphere and Noise
The hostel environment felt unsafe. There were sketchy people lingering outside, and the guests seemed more erratic than in other European hostels I’ve stayed at. There’s no quiet hour policy—many roommates came back after 2-3 a.m. with a lot of noise.
Overall, Nice is a wonderful city, but this hostel really put a damper on my trip. I would not recommend this place to anyone. I’ll definitely return to Nice—but never to this hostel again.
