Hostellerie Château des Fines Roches (Châteauneuf-du-Pape, French Riviera / Provence) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Châteauneuf-du-Pape’s original pontifical castle is in ruins, but a second castle, this one a neoclassical château on a hilltop overlooking the vineyards and the village, lives on as a luxury hotel. Hostellerie du Château des Fines Roches exudes old-world grandeur — most of its rooms and suites feature glamorous four-poster canopy beds, decorative chandeliers, and French doors opening onto the gardens, and a few come wtih unique features like a spiral staircase leading to a private bathroom in the castle’s turret. Highlights include a courtyard swimming pool, a fireplace lounge, a tranquil spa, and an elegant restaurant with terrace seating overlooking the vineyards." - Tablet Hotels

Had a pre-arranged wine cellar tour in another winery at Châteauneuf du Pape and did not want to drive. Requested for dinner booking availability as it just looked magical and then inquired about a taxi to and from the wine tour. Rooms have not been ready as arriving at noon. We waited in the garden and soon after they came to share that the Taxi is not reachable but they have organised a team member to drive us over and pick us up again. ||This is hospitality in every sense! ||Great setting with the castle in the vineyard and then having the dinner overlooking the vineyard. The picture share the amazing views and ambiance we had. A culinary delight with the degustation menu and matching wines. Fantastic team from check-in, dinner and breakfast team and then as well at check-out. A very memorable experience! Highly recommend and would book the restaurant in advance to not miss out…..

This is a hotel within a 19th century château & attached winery, surrounded by beautiful vineyards and views about 25 minutes walk from the town. Ample car park. We stayed in a suite (#6) , very comfortable, the shower located within a turret with a lovely view! Decent coffee machine, fresh milk, toiletries and bottled water provided. The restaurant serves a good lunch and dinner, serving their own excellent wines. Pool and sun terrace for relaxation. No fitness room, but there's plenty of opportunity to go jogging through the vineyards of the property and adjacent legendary Ch. La Nerthe. The staff are friendly, helpful and genuine. Special mentions for Aurelien, Julian and Sebastian. for their outstanding service. I would strongly recommend this hotel if you are considering a few nights stay in this iconic town, as a base to explore the area of western Provence.

Pretty hotel surrounded by vineyards. However there was no air conditioning and so the room was boiling hot. The hotel climate control is centrally controlled and some genius had set the whole hotel to “heat” despite it being 27C and blazing sunshine. We were told to just keep the windows open to allow the room to cool down and were eaten alive by mosquitoes as a result. Also the room never really cooled down. This spoiled the whole experience and meant we didn’t sleep well either. 500 dollars a night for no air conditioning? You’ve got to be joking.

This small, boutique hotel is situated in the best location in the Chateauneuf-du-Pape area, on a hill overlooking a landscape of vinyards. It is about 2 kilometers from the centre of the town of Chateauneuf-du-Pape, so it is easy to walk into the town. There is a working winery on-site, but other Chateaux are available to visit for wine tasting within 1-2 kilometers. ||Rooms are modern and clean, and the front desk staff attentive. ||We ate at the restaurant the first night and found the food so good that we ate there the second night as well. On the first night, dinner was indoors. The second night, dinner was set up outdoors, taking advantage of the wonderful views. The only problem was having smokers at a couple of the tables, however France has now banned smoking in public outdoor locations, so that should no longer be a problem.||Perhaps the only area for improvement is in the breakfast. While this is a small hotel, breakfast is pretty much self-serve, including coffee, with an average offering. However, this does not detract from the overall ambiance of the hotel.

A castle on a hill in a vineyard accessed via a cypress lined one lane road, could it get any better? The staff was super friendly, their winery was one of the better CdP I had (esp the 19), breakfast buffet was better than anywhere else I stayed in France, the rooms are super cool, the pool is great and has a great view, and the restaurant there is amazing. Had the best time, the only problem was I couldn't stay longer!

IDEAL LOCATION for an outdoor lunch or dinner. The view is stunning. We had lunch at the restaurant. (We did not stay at the hotel.) The food was excellent. It was a set menu (formulae) but there were a number of nice selections to choose from. I had the pasta with seafood and lamb shoulder and my husband had the egg dish and the fish. There was not much seafood in the pasta dish but the pasta was cooked well. The egg dish was dry but the lamb and fish were outstanding. Cake dessert was okay. The pours on the champagne and wine seemed light to us. May be better to order a bottle. Service was good but staff had earpieces to communicate with each other and seemed slightly distracted when taking our orders. Nevertheless, I recommend visiting here.

The pros: beautiful view of the vineyards, impressive castle, architecture, spacious room.||The cons: Limited breakfast at the restaurant was very disappointing. The food was presented in a buffet style. There were flies and nats all over the fruits and breads and other items. Therefore we chose not to have dinner there and instead we went off property The front desk staff was OK. They all leave at 8:00 PM. There is no one there in case of an emergency. ||Our room on the first floor was immediately next to the pool. Once we opened the windows we were overlooking all the guest in the pool area. I’m sure they felt as uncomfortable as we did so we had the windows closed most of the times. The hotel is approximately 15 to 20 minutes away from the small village where there are two maybe three restaurants and some wine tasting rooms. The closest larger town is Orange. It’s a nice size village with plenty of restaurants, shops, etc. however it is about a 30 minute drive from the subject property. All in all I would give this hotel a three star and when in the area I would stay elsewhere.||PS…One more note, once we opened up the windows our room was invaded by nats, flies, and insects. All over our bed and bathroom fixtures.

Highly recommend this hotel. The Castle is an unforgettable place with incredible views, excellent food and exceptional service. The location is absolutely stunning and central to many excursions. Would stay again.

Yelp
Is this place for real? From the outside it's epic. You drive up a hill through vineyards until you come to what looks like a well preserved castle. You walk inside and it has all the charm of a castle-themed swingers club for old people. Just kinda nasty. People whispering at each other in soft voices. Low grade furniture. Dark hallways and cracked floors. Bathtubs without showers. We brought a bottle of wine with us. When we asked to borrow a corkscrew to open it, they looked all confused at us. "We only have one." You're a WINE THEMED HOTEL in one of the most globally recognized wine regions. To not have a corkscrew is like not having movies at a movie theatre. For whatever reason at three in the morning, we heard all of the octogenarians in the hotel get up at once. Must have been time for their liver pills. The only reason we heard them was because the castle walls were paper thin. I took my wife here to make her feel like a Princess. Little did I know that I'd end up looking like a Jester. There are much better places to stay. Avoid.

Yelp
This was quite the experience. The chateau is located on a beautiful hill surrounded by vineyards so you get an amazing view. We stayed in one of the larger rooms and it def was super spacious even by American standards. Room was nicely decorated and bathroom looked new and modern. Our room overlooked the pool which we sadly didn't get to spend much time in. We ate at the restaurant one night and what a meal! Delicious! You can sit out in the patio for dinner and watch the sunset. Def bring some repellent however as the mosquitoes also got quite a meal out of me. Not a single complaint can be made of this place. If you are in the CDP area, def stay here for a few nights!
