Hosteria Chukirawa

Can't find a better hostel for the price and location. But, beware it's not perfect. The rooms were comfy and warm with the stove provided but beware of the mold in the showers. Outside of that, the food was great and reasonably priced for where it is. Staff: there was mold all over the ceiling of my shower which made me think, how bad do I really need a shower. Decision: I needed one, and did risk it. I would stay here again, but would check the showers prior to paying.

One of the better hostels in the area. Restaurant was good. Room was comfortable and quiet. Bring enough cash as there is no ATM in town and they don’t accept cards.

Extremely well located with easy parking. Rooms are confortable and turn very cosy at night when the staff start the fire in your own bedroom Cheminea. The restaurant is also excellent for a very fair price.

Maybe one of the better/more popular places to stay in Quilotoa. The location is great, right across the street from the lake. The beds felt like they were blow up mattresses, and our sink was leaking onto the floor. Water also didn’t get really hot. The fire place in the room was nice though. Overall I’d say it’s a good deal for the price/location (I was happy with it). It’s nothing fancy, especially after being at Llullu a couple nights before.

the place is gorgeous! but the food and service are so-so. but the red wine is just what you need after a hike in the mountains!

We had a nice time here. The hostel is located really close to the view point of the lagoon. The room was really nice! They had a lot of blankets so we stayed warm at night even though the temperate was almost freezing. Dinner and breakfast were included and were great in our opinion. They had options for vegan and vegetarian food which was perfect for us.

I only ate here and didn’t like it. Bad service they didn’t come to the table and the food took forever to arrive. The chicken had a long hair on it yuck! Can you imagine they cooked the chicken with this hair, it’s disgusting. They don’t wear hair net like most restaurant do for hygienist reason. They didn’t ask us if we want a drink, we needed to come to them to ask for that and when we finished our meal, still no drink! It is expensive considering the service, the food and everything. They just don’t care about people. I don’t recommend this place, there’s other better restaurants around Quilotoa.

Unfortunately our stay at Chukirawa wasn't great. There was a strong smell of sewage coming from our en-suite bathroom. The food was disappointing compared to what we had been given in the other hostels along the Quilotoa loop- even if we had specified some of us were on a vegan diet we were all served eggs and yogurt for breakfast. Some of the staff was particularly unhelpful. When we asked if we could have some water to refill our bottles they told us that there was none left, when we asked someone else they replaced the dispenser.. Our friends' fire was not properly lit at night, when they went out to look for someone to help them start it again there was no one to be found. I would not stay there again.
