My wife’s parents loved this place, so we decided to give it a try. They had a nice wheelchair ramp up to an entrance, however that is where the wheelchair friendliness ended, because you end up at the wrong side of the store to order and good luck getting access to the other side of the store. We went on Wednesday night at 8. The place was pretty busy and we thought we were in the line to order for about 5 minutes and then we figured out that they were ordering somewhere else. So we finally ordered and they got the ice cream out pretty quick. However, I got a hot fudge sundae and felt like they may have forgot the hot fudge. Or maybe they were just really running low on their hot fudge. My granddaughters got vanilla soft serve and I feel like Dairy Queen soft serve is better. The chocolates looked good but we didn’t try thy.

We were on vacation and one evening we were looking for some place different to try for dessert. This place came up, and in so glad we tried it! I loved it here! From the bakery counter to the chocolate shop, there’s something yummy for everyone. Ice cream, cookies, cakes, fudge, and chocolate galore. I had the chocolate lava cake, which they heated up, and it was maybe the best I’ve had in a very long time! It was delicious! The hot chocolates are also very tasty! I’ll be back on my next trip!

Google
A must visit when on the Cape! My spouse and I have been coming here over the past 10 years, and we always make a point of visiting Hot Chocolate Sparrow for the coconut mocha sparrow in particular. It's such a delicious drink! And I've never tasted another mocha anywhere else quite like it. The desserts are very decadent in flavour, and the cakes and chocolate in particular will send you into a heavenly sugar rush. This time, we tried the berryblast muffin for a change. However, we weren't impressed as with our usual selections. It was a bit dry and bland, so I definitely recommend sticking to the many other assortments of treats on display here. The options, after all, are endless so much that it'll be hard to choose what to order. This is perhaps the best reason to justify putting on those calories and spending the oh so worth it dough to keep coming back. ;)

I've been coming here since I was a kid but finally had a chance to take my partner while back in town. The food was fantastic but the coffee- AMAZING. My partner said it was the best coffee she's ever had (the iced coconut mocha sparrow). We had a blast, the vibes were great and we picked up some sweets to bring back for friends. Added a picture of the barista sign because I wanted to recommend it to my old coffee shop because it's a cute way to say it!!

Nice little locally made candy shop. Coffee and drink line tends to be long in peak season. Frozen hot chocolate is worth trying!

Google
This is a staple in Orleans on Cape Cod! We love venturing in and seeing what candies and chocolates they have, not to mention the coffee is always delicious! The place is packed in the summer but open year-round. I've had their sandwiches before but not this time, I remember their food being great as well! Stop in and see what all the fuss is about!

Google
Bustling, delicious, and surprisingly lively for a random Tuesday afternoon. Great options and general quality. Some misses in the form of industrially produced candy, but everything behind the counters is a solid choice and the coffee/ ice creams are all stars. The Oatly frozen yogurt is legitimately as good as regular milk fro-yo. Go try it!

Google
Best place to get Coffee and Ice Cream on the Lower Cape. All the locals come here. Frozen Hot Chocolate is a must try

Scott L.

Yelp
The best sundae on Cape Cod. The whipped cream/chocolate/nuts combo is next level. Kids also loved the ice cream and chocolate chip cookie Pass on the affogato...

Yelp
This cozy little shop is always a delight. Whether you are in the mood to indulge in a sweet candy treat, dessert or good homemade ice cream this is the place. They have a wide assortment of the three categories I mentioned above. The biggest challenge is selecting just one. This beautiful sunny Sunday in February commanded having ice cream so that was my choice on this visit. Of course if I'm splurging I am having a sundae. This is definitely a place to have hot fudge because it is home made and fabulous. The ice cream flavors are truly amazing and decadent. My two personal favorites are German Chocolate cake and Red Raspberry truffle. Both loaded with tasty ingredients. My one complaint and the only reason they didn't get 5 stars is their portions have declined. My medium sundae looked more like a small. Very small. All in all it's a place to satisfy your sweet tooth for sure!

Yelp
The Hot Chocolate Sparrow is a fun place to stop along the Cape Cod Rail Trail. Because it's so we'll located, it is hoppin'! Lots of people around lunchtime on a Saturday afternoon. We ordered 3 sandwiches (the 1, 2, & 3). The sandwiches are on the smaller side, but still managed to hold us through dinner, in combination with a frozen hot chocolate . My husband and I split the #s 1 & 3. We quite enjoyed both. My quibble would be the frozen hot chocolate. That seems to be something of a specialty here, but it didn't feel particularly special. Also, the day we stopped by (a busy Saturday towards the end of summer) the frozen hot chocolates were taking a long time to come out. Long enough to feel like they forgot your order. I'm not sure that part of my order was worth the wait. It is a cute spot , though, and well-located off the cape cod rail trail. There's a reason folks keep coming!

Yelp
Always my first and last stop on my mid-cape trip - starting and ending with an iced mocha sparrow or hot cappuccino. Their espresso is superior and their mocha situations are always amazing. Fast, efficient service. A bustling but cozy environment adorned in pink neon. Bonus - it's also a chocolaterie and you can get some incredible fudge and other sweet treats while you're here! FYI they also have sandwiches and lunchy things (medium good), ice cream (always good) and pastries (not the best on the block but still good!); wifi, outlets, and ample parking. Right off the Cape Cod Rail Trail for bikers in need of a bathroom and water bottle fill up.

Yelp
We went today for breakfast and then chocolates. My husband loved his ham, egg and bagel sandwich. He enjoyed the coffee selection too. I had a muffin and a smoothie. I went with the Brewster something smoothie, and it was good. Muffin was ok - a bit hard to eat because it was so crumbly. And I had to have a mint hot chocolate because of the name of the place. Yummy. Service was quick. Then on to the candy store. Dessert after breakfast? OK! We got fudge, a peanut butter cup, and a few other chocolates to go. They made some cute elephant chocolates which I had to bring home for my children. The staff there was wonderful. We got chatting and she made some wonderful recommendations. I'm so glad I finally got to try it there.

Yelp
One of my favorite spots in the Cape to grab some morning drinks to get us started for our day. Since we have a mix of coffee and non-coffee drinkers in our family, it's perfect that they offer excellent espresso drinks but they also have a variety of hot and frozen chocolate drinks and super healthy smoothies. My daughter who has the sweet tooth swears by the Iced Caramel Mocha Turtle and Iced Coconut Mocha Sparrow while my other half loves to order the Brewster Berry smoothie. For myself, I like to stick with the oldie but goodie iced or hot vanilla lattes and you can order it with any non-dairy milk of your choice which for me is with oat milk. This place is always packed but the line moves quickly. They also have online ordering if you're ever in a pinch. Enjoy!

Desiree S.

Yelp
A cape favorite for me. Their portions can be a little disappointing, but overall, the quality is outstanding. A lovely place to hang out after a long rail trail bike ride.

Will W.

Yelp
One of the better cappuccinos I've had on my trip to the Cape. Top tier pastries more specifically their cinnamon rolls. Great spot for a desert shop that's not only ice cream like 90% of the options are in the cape.

Mady M.

Yelp
Coffee was average. Service was not good. Extremely busy place with not enough staff. If you get plain cold brew, it is self serve which is fine, but not explicitly stated (they literally hand you a cup of ice and you get your own coffee). We got an apple blossom and pecan bar. The pecan bar was average. The apple blossom was good, would have been better if it was warmed up but I thought if I asked the cashier to warm it up, his brain would explode. He seemed very lost and disoriented on what he was doing. Really wanted to like this place due to the cute atmosphere, but the service was so poor and the coffee was lackluster.

Moriah L.

Yelp
Vegan options! They have Oatly soft serve and non dairy milk. They weren't sure if any of the pastries could be made vegan, so a no go there. The ice cream was great and the drinks were all really tasty. This place is quirky, cute, and efficient. Definitely worth stopping by for a sweet treat.

Yelp
So, to start with, I was really excited when I realized I was close to this place. I'm not generally in Orleans area, but when I realized I was, I thought what a great opportunity to go into hot chocolate sparrow! It was right before noon, so starting to get a little busy, but nothing crazy. A lot of people waiting for stuff, a lot of people at the candy area which looked excellent. the place itself was cute. I asked a few questions of the younger girl who was taking orders. First, I asked if they made their baked items. She said yes. Reading the reviews, I now realize that was probably a lie. That also frustrates me. However, moving forward, I was just trying to find something rather plain that wouldn't take long because I was just here for a quick business meeting. I asked if I could have an egg and cheese sandwich, without the egg just cheese. I said instead of the egg can they just put an extra slice of cheese. She said sure we can do that. The egg sandwich I believe is $5.99 or $5.25 one of the 2. Keep in mind, I just asked for the cheese to be substituted for the egg. I also purchased box of water. Somehow, instead of substituting, she put in extra cheese, I was charged for the box of water and it ended up being just under $13. When I looked, I saw that I was charged almost 9 dollars for the eggless sandwich. 10 minutes later, they were still scrambling to figure out why they couldn't fix it. And I was told by who must be the most experienced, and I use that term loosely, person there, that I ordered a grilled cheese. That was why I was charged the extra three dollars. No I did not order grilled cheese, I ordered an egg sandwich with no egg, and I substituted an extra piece of cheese for the egg. The place it started filling up, and at this point I've already been in there for over 20 minutes and I was about to be late for my appointment, so I said, I'm done arguing about this, but you are definitely doing this wrong. I have been in business, my entire life, and I have been in the same business for over 25 years. That is not how it works. If that is how they are having their staff bring things up and I'm not sure why they are busy. Other than the fact that tourists are on vacation, and may not realize it. As for their baked house, bakery items, they might be baked in somebody's bakery, but not in this one. Also, that box of water that I did not get, I paid for he had to throw me a tiny bottle of Poland Springs because apparently they were out of boxed water. So no, the 3 to 4 dollars isn't the point of this, it's the principle and the lack of customer service, and lack of knowledge and common sense is the point of this review. Either think before you speak, because when you're arguing with a customer about the fact that are charging more for less, instead of trying to make the customer feel welcome and trying everything to make it right, you are not doing your job. Don't worry I will be contacting the manager.

Yelp
Always loved this place and went out of our way to have their ice cream. We always take it home. Each of the last two times we realized when we got home that it was not what we ordered. First time ordered coffee with sprinkles and got chocolate. Tonight ordered the same thing and got what I think was Mocha fudge. Since Sparrow is 5 miles away and it was late - no way to take it back. Since these were pretty simple orders that they can't get right, there is no reason to go back. Have been going there for 20 years - so it is most unfortunate that the staff can't handle such simple requests.

Urs K.

Yelp
It was a rather disappointing experience. If I pay $10 for a small cappuccino and a muffin, I expect it to be excellent. The coffee was ok, but the muffin did not seem fresh and crumbled apart as soon as you bit into it.

John H.

Yelp
Very cute little candy shop has a little bit of everything it is very expensive tho! I ordered an iced latte and it came to $7 which is Starbucks prices

Hazel C.

Yelp
I've been coming here for decades and it was always a place I'd bring friends when they were visiting me. However, the service has been in a steep decline in the past few years. At first I wrote it off to COVID issues, but even this year, the last several times I have gone the people working the register have had the personality of a doorknob. Of course, when the drink finally comes out you realize they made the incorrect drink, but good luck getting someone to fix it. I am not ordering complex drinks either, usually just a simple bag of tea in hot water!

Len S.

Yelp
Food is good but the prices are nearly double any nearby store of equal quality. It is a great location for an ice cream after a bike ride on the rail trail.

Justine S.

Yelp
This place is indulgent, delicious and yummy! Always great to support local shop! Iced Mocha love

Allegra P.

Yelp
Delicious and chaotic. If you have a common name and are ordering inside, give them a last initial for your own ease.

JP M.

Yelp
Service is virtually non existent. Clueless millennials standing at coffee counter ignoring customers at the confection counter. There were two of us waiting with no acknowledgement of our presence. Not in need of my patronage.

Lily G.

Yelp
Very cute interior- service was wonderful. everyone was so friendly. They have a cute candy section on the wall that made for some good treats. Iced coffee was delicious and the scones even better!

Sophia H.

Yelp
Mocha Sparrow Mocha with oat milk was delicious! Thick, deep/roasty, rich, and sweet. What more can one ask for?

Alissa D.

Yelp
One of my favorite stops to get an iced mocha, it's a caffeinated treat! This place is so cute inside. During busy season in the summer it is bustling, so be prepared to wait a little, get cramped a little and not be sure where to stand. They offer lots of pastries, an espresso bar and they even offer candy counter to get some chocolates. Definitely a must stop if you're in the area!!

Karen V.

Yelp
Brought my nephew here when we were visiting the cape. I love this spot. So Cosy and quaint. Definitely a local spot. Their frozen hot chocolate is to die for. We went at Halloween and their homemade candy and chocolates were yummy. Let's just say it was hard to choose and we went home with 10lbs. of candy. You can see the Cape Walking trail from the parking lot. Great spot! Very special place.

Lenn Grae K.

Yelp
Had my hopes up, but my latte was spoiled before it was even handed to me by a transphobic and body shaming birthday card for sale in the waiting area Latte was fine -- too heavy on the flavor syrup, but that makes sense for a candy shop.

Alice G.

Yelp
I would have given a solid 4.5 stars if able. They lose half a star because the place could use a little maintenance (which I completely understand since we just went through a 2 year pandemic!). The food gets 5+ stars! The breakfast sandwiches are delicious, the paninis are perfectly toasted and the pastries are delicious. My favorite one was the eclair! Perfect amount of filling, dough cooked to perfection!!! Coffee was also great, I've tried the house blend and it was super smooth. I really love this place and highly recommend it. For my Yelpers who are into ambience, the walls could use a fresh coat of paint.

Allison C.

Yelp
I visited Hot Chocolate Sparrow during a visit to the Cape, and it was honestly a dream come true. I love dessert, especially chocolate ones, and I couldn't believe the case of treats that I saw when I walked in. We picked out a few chocolate treats that were very rich and filling, but so good. From now on I will definitely stop here when I'm in the Cape, and I can't wait to try more of their selection!

Tom K.

Yelp
The good: candy and fudge. Looks like most stuff is in house. Also the coffee and drinks selection wasn't too shabby. The bad: all bakery cakes and treats are not in house. I watched them tell someone they need to check and see if there carrot cake is ready and then they pulled a Cheesecake Factory box out and cut it open. After realizing that it's all Cheesecake Factory I was disappointed I thought it was homemade. Oh well win some lose some. Just a little overpriced for secondhand food.

Sara R.

Yelp
This place has so much going in and it's very fun to step in - there are so many options when coming here for treats and snacks and coffee! Everything I have had here was delicious, today I just got a coffee ( Almond Joy) with white chocolate flavor and it was delicious.

Eve L.

Yelp
Just the thought of going there makes me happy Such a variety of cakes, pastries, hot drinks, cold drinks, ice cream, handmade chocolates it's great for the whole family and always delicious

Alena S.

Yelp
Don't be intimidated by the long line, it moves quick and you'll be glad you waited! The choices here are limitless. And the drinks are so good. I had a white hot chocolate and it was rich and yummy. They have a candy shop connected that has some great choices and a small gift shop.

Caroline L.

Yelp
As a bakery, this place is great. We had the ice cream (heath bar) and a chocolate bombe. However, If you're paranoid about Covid like we are, we don't recommend this place when it is busy (a rainy day on the cape) It is very popular, as you'd expect from a bakery. There were a lot of patrons in line and only a quarter are masked and about half the staff. With an active Covid cluster further into PTown, we were uncomfortable waiting in line and wanted to get out asap. I know it's not the businesses fault and it would also be annoying to have patrons wait out in the rain too. ‍ Covid is a no win and this is why I left a 4 star review

Natalie S.

Yelp
After biking nearly 10 miles thanks to the establishment next door to Hot Chocolate Sparrow we were hungry!! And very thankful there was a little cafe right next door. The outside of it doesn't seem like anything special, but as soon as you walk in the door, you're hit with such a strong smell of chocolate and sweet. But not sickeningly sweet....it smelled GOOD. The place itself was pretty packed, no six feet distances, and not everyone wore masks. The staff did though! Everything on the sandwich menu sounded delicious. I ordered the number one.....mozzarella cheese, artichoke hearts and sundried tomatoes. It was okay. Definitely sounded better than I thought it tasted. But it was still good! The coffee on the other hand.....deeeeeelish!! Tried the Caramel Mocha Turtle iced coffee and just yes. Whoever is reading this, this is your sign to order it. You won't be disappointed! The desserts in the cases all looked wicked good. We didn't order any but I'm tempted to drive back out to Orleans and try one..or five!

Lila S.

Yelp
For anyone vacationing or living year round on the cape I have to say this is one of the only places you. An quickly get a single serve or single slice of cake on the outer cape. Why is that so important? Well. Well Imagine the post beach scenario of having your box lunch sammies hours prior.. you are in aching need of a shower but also equally a coffee for the tasty energy pick up - but heck if only something sweet to accompany it that ISNT A Donut or something breakfast like ? Enter HCS! They have an expeditious process for those who know what they want - a slice of key lime pie? A piece of German chocolate cake? And how's about an iced americano to wash it all down ? My goodness yes ! Not only do they have every classic cake and pie , but also some inventive ones. With covid they haven't been allowing people inside but they do have a really well thought out already in place take out line outside. I have to say with everyone's covid challenges they seem to have not been stifled by it. They do also have a full on chocolates and truffles counter that makes Godiva look like a second rate candy store. I know you can order from it online. Dont ask me how...try the peanut butter cups and the turtles ! They also aren't a bad spot to stop for an informal breakfast or early lunch. The sandwiches on the menu are a little bland in choices but you can make whatever custom you want from their ingredients. I've both vacationed and lived on the cape and I can say with confidence that HCS kept pulling me back in for the sake of quality and consistency alone. Open year round too !!

David L.

Yelp
We got up late and expected to have to wait for our hot chocolate. but not so! We did wait to order but our food and drinks were ready in a matter of minutes. The breakfast sandwiches were not spectacular but the cheese croissant was amazing! The hot chocolate was pretty good too. Be sure to stop here and buy some chocolate (at the very least) on your way through town.

Sally C.

Yelp
So we visited this spot 3 years ago & I can't believe I forgot to review it!!! Best darn hot chocolate we've had in our travels around the Continental US! And we've done 30+ states so far... and their desserts you cannot even begin to explain how decadent, rich, delicious & comforting they all are!!! The Tiramisu was absolutely creamy & well balanced on taste!! This is one of those spots I wish was close by!!!

Michelle T.

Yelp
Great place! Great product! Love the chocolate aroma as soon as you walk in! Our homemade candies were the best we've ever had. The toffee is the best ever.

Shannon C.

Yelp
Strong coffee, fast service, and lots of chocolate! They have a small handheld breakfast selection and a few soups. Lots of handmade chocolate assortments on display. Very cool place to visit and our go to when in Orleans.

Julie L.

Yelp
Great cold brew with a shot of vanilla. Service was quick. Great spot off rail trail. Brought cookies home for family and they said they were good too.

Will C.

Yelp
FROZEN MOCHA SPARROW WITH COCONUT. Yes this was as good as it sounds. Not and overwhelming mocha amount with the perfect coconut kiss. Seriously if you're looking for coffee, frozen drinks or smoothies. Don't be a fool go to the hot chocolate sparrow

Taylor P.

Yelp
This place is awesome. The menu is huge and the selection of different drinks is amazing! They have everything. I got the mocha latte and can say it is one of the better ones I have ever had. I can't wait to come back here and try something else.

Amma L.

Yelp
What I was looking for: Super cozy, clean coffee shop with excellent coffee, friendly and knowledgeable baristas and inviting ambience! What I found: Unfortunately, a below average coffee house with zero coziness and messy floors and counters. The online photos make it look really awesome but they are definitely not showing the whole picture. And you have to make your own coffee, unless you order something more complex. The cashier who waited on us was pretty much just there for a paycheck. The "warm" coffee was mediocre at best. Fortunately they had coconut milk and other dairy free options), but that was the only positive for me. The coffee at a Dunkin would have been better. I considered buying some of their homemade chocolates until I saw they didn't even bother to list the ingredients on the bags. I was expecting something special because of the other reviews and pictures. Really disappointed that we went out of our way to stop here.

Barbara L.

Yelp
Caramel Mocha Turtle was fantastic!! Clean and friendly service. Most of the employees had masks on and I would feel safe dining in.

Dave R.

Yelp
Always a favorite stop while in Orleans. We all love the fast service and the frozen hot chocolate is delicious. Also a fantastic place to grab some chocolates to bring for a gift. I always grab some for house warmings and dinner parties. We highly recommend stopping in and trying their chocolates and desserts.

Melly M.

Yelp
I was in town for a weekend and a friend recommended this for breakfast. She was correct! It's a small intimate candy and coffee shop with a few extras thrown in. I enjoyed an herbal tea and a breakfast sandwich. I spent about $8

Jim M.

Yelp
Unlike the high tide mark Sparrow year after year is consistently a good place . It is very hard to stay at the top of your game. Congratulations.

Chrissy W.

Yelp
This spot saved my life! Apparently wifi is not really a thing for the vacationing town for cape cod. And why should it be? For dummies like me who have to work on vacation, the only reliable resource for a quick bandwidth intensive email was this adorably delicious local institution. Loved the frozen hot chocolate, plain croissant, black white muffin and peanut butter cookie! Happy spot!

Michael F.

Yelp
Love their fudge. Good sundaes and rich thick hot chocolate is a must during the winter months. Solid go to place to fill that sweet tooth.

Michael H.

Yelp
Always a treat with surprises. A local favorite, the Sparrow never disappoints. Breakfast and lunch or in between there is something for everyone

Michael N.

Yelp
good coffee and friendly staff. The one star is for the owner who prevents the staff from restarting the router so that their patrons can enjoy the WiFi that they payed for. P.S. As a reply to Perry's claims! (see below): Dear Sir! Instead of trying to discredit honest customers, you would be well advised have a little chat with your staff! Let me assure you router was not working for almost two hours, even though I and others were begging those kids to restart it - which they refused to do on the pretext that you had forbidden them to enter the very room where it is stationed. Let me further remind you on the fact that you have chosen to open your business at a popular tourist spot - which means that people may be induced to spend good money on your promise to receive free WiFi for the price of refreshments that are anything but inexpensive!
