So, to start with, I was really excited when I realized I was close to this place. I'm not generally in Orleans area, but when I realized I was, I thought what a great opportunity to go into hot chocolate sparrow! It was right before noon, so starting to get a little busy, but nothing crazy. A lot of people waiting for stuff, a lot of people at the candy area which looked excellent. the place itself was cute. I asked a few questions of the younger girl who was taking orders. First, I asked if they made their baked items. She said yes. Reading the reviews, I now realize that was probably a lie. That also frustrates me. However, moving forward, I was just trying to find something rather plain that wouldn't take long because I was just here for a quick business meeting. I asked if I could have an egg and cheese sandwich, without the egg just cheese. I said instead of the egg can they just put an extra slice of cheese. She said sure we can do that. The egg sandwich I believe is $5.99 or $5.25 one of the 2. Keep in mind, I just asked for the cheese to be substituted for the egg. I also purchased box of water. Somehow, instead of substituting, she put in extra cheese, I was charged for the box of water and it ended up being just under $13. When I looked, I saw that I was charged almost 9 dollars for the eggless sandwich. 10 minutes later, they were still scrambling to figure out why they couldn't fix it. And I was told by who must be the most experienced, and I use that term loosely, person there, that I ordered a grilled cheese. That was why I was charged the extra three dollars. No I did not order grilled cheese, I ordered an egg sandwich with no egg, and I substituted an extra piece of cheese for the egg. The place it started filling up, and at this point I've already been in there for over 20 minutes and I was about to be late for my appointment, so I said, I'm done arguing about this, but you are definitely doing this wrong. I have been in business, my entire life, and I have been in the same business for over 25 years. That is not how it works. If that is how they are having their staff bring things up and I'm not sure why they are busy. Other than the fact that tourists are on vacation, and may not realize it. As for their baked house, bakery items, they might be baked in somebody's bakery, but not in this one. Also, that box of water that I did not get, I paid for he had to throw me a tiny bottle of Poland Springs because apparently they were out of boxed water. So no, the 3 to 4 dollars isn't the point of this, it's the principle and the lack of customer service, and lack of knowledge and common sense is the point of this review. Either think before you speak, because when you're arguing with a customer about the fact that are charging more for less, instead of trying to make the customer feel welcome and trying everything to make it right, you are not doing your job.
Don't worry I will be contacting the manager.
