Google
Chris the owner was amazing at showing his glass blowing abilities. Stayed and watched for an hour without even realizing it. Truely a talented artist and it was such a treat to watch him work! Thanks!!!

Google
Great place to sit and watch master glass craftsman ply their trade. I could literally sit there for hours. They are more than willing to answer all your questions about the process. If you want a commissioned piece they will help with that as well and they aren't afraid to let you know if what you want will look good in the end. They package and ship anywhere you want safely and securely.

Google
We purchased last September 2023 from Hot Island Glass a jelly fish made by Chris. Purchased the light base and love our piece. We are back in Maui to look at more of his pieces. Recommend Hot Island Glass

Google
Very interesting place! It's nice to see a process of glass blowing. Gallery itself is beautiful but pricey.

Tess Atieno

Google
Perfect place to get a souvenir while supporting a local business. They have such beautifully breathtaking creations 💛🌊

Google
Glass blowing artisans of the highest caliber. Two glass artists creating beautiful objects in their own individual talents. Often the studio/store is actively making things, call ahead.

Casey Curtiss

Google
Wonderful artists! You can see them blowing glass as you're perusing the pieces already made. Pricey, worth watching the artist if anything.

Rodney Hiebert

Google
They make glass sculptures and trinkets, I bought a hawaiian turtle soap dish. And their prices are reasonable unlike that other place.

Yelp
This place is so special. When we started coming to Maui so many years ago, we found this gem. All of my family has some of their pieces in their homes. We will go again this trip and see what we fall in love with.

Yelp
Small specialty glass blowing shop with an exquisite collection of items available for purchase. They have items from several different artists on Maui plus a couple from other Islands. You can watch them work live in their hot shop - they were making jellyfish when we were there. They had a number of larger unique and modern items available including some gorgeous vases with spun accents. We loved that they have series of items and you can Choose from several similar items in various colors or sizes. They will also do commissions. They ship to the mainland or other islands for you.

Yelp
These are beautiful pieces of art, deftly created. You can often watch the art in action. We watched the making of a wave and it was fascinating. Definitely worth a stop when in Makawao.

Yelp
Truly one of the best stops to make while visiting Maui's gorgeous upcountry is this glass blowing shop. This was my second visit here and again always find something to bring back home. The artists are so talented and the pieces they create here are such colorful creations. This gallery features so many unique pieces that it is hard to choose a gift for your family, friends or yourself. Just take your time and hopefully while you are there you will have the opportunity to see the glass blowing being done while you wait. This shop is the oldest glass blowing shop in the island of Maui and i have purchased a memorable piece each time I have been in. The shop is easy to find and sits in the heart of Makawao!

Yelp
We love this shop and try stop in on every visit to our island home. On our last visit we were in the process of remodeling our kitchen and saw the beautiful pendant globes. Chose 2 on the spot. Got back home to the mainland, completed the remodel, and realized we needed one more to complete our "beachy" kitchen. We absolutely love them and especially love the oohs and aahs we get from friends and family when they see them lit up. Mahalo Chris & Chris for all you do to bring beauty and the spirit of aloha to the world.

Yelp
Nice Glass Studio and Shop. They have a nice space where you can see some artist at work up close. They also offer a lot of beautiful pieces that you can purchase and take with you, or they can ship it for you. They had a nice selection and the prices were reasonable. If you're not super picky, they even had a little shelf of "seconds," where you can get the pieces for half price.

Megan M.

Yelp
This is an upcountry gem - very high quality and unique blown glass art. You can even watch them work! It is definitely worth a stop if you are in upcountry and prices for the quality are reasonable.

Yelp
When I arrived off the ferry from Lana'i I cruised around Lahaina for a while looking at art and food and knick knacks and saw some Hot Island Glass in one of the galleries where they had glass art of jellyfish that was very detailed and very good. So while exploring and driving to the volcano I passed through Makawao and decided to stop in their shop and have a look around. They have tons of neat glass-blown treasures in here - bowls, waves, sea creatures like starfish and turtles and other things. They even have beautiful glass sconces for the wall or hanging lights for your home in various colors for about $500. The detail and glass work is very very good. The jellyfish are very detailed and colorful and look realistic. There are bubbles carefully places inside the glass when hit with the lights they sell to rest it on - really pop and add something I have not seen before in such work. I purchased a beautiful wave piece for $300 and had them ship it home to me - shipping was fast and was completed the next business day with tracking information emailed to me. (I should receive it tomorrow) The two inside were friendly and helpful - allowing me to browse without following me around and not worried about my touching the glass and moving pieces I liked around. They seemed very comfortable and carefree and didn't try to stop me - which was a welcome change from the usual treatment in such places. They have a glass kiln inside and are making art you can watch during most days mid-day. If you are in the area - and most tourists will be - you should stop in and take a look. It's located in a cute historic town with tons of shopping and art and food nearby.

Yelp
Oh the artistry of the merchandise. It's beautiful. I own 2 pieces from here and have a wishlist of many other pieces to someday own.

Yelp
WOW... When your in Makawao you don't want to miss Hot Island Glass! I was lucky enough to stop in when a piece was being created. What a pleasure to watch these one of a kind creations in the making. The gallery has all sorts of pieces. There is even a case with unsigned work at GREAT prices. There was a beautiful vase for $40.00 and yet another for $20.00!!! You don't have to break the bank for one of a kind glass work. Stop in you won't want to miss it .

Yelp
Hot Island Glass was one of the highlights of our visit to Maui's beautiful and charming Upcountry. We learned that Hot Island Glass is the first/oldest glass blowing shop on Maui. The artisans (glassblowing is an incredible art!) are so talented here, and we were able to see them in action. They are not only incredibly skilled at what they do, but are very precise and detail-oriented as well. Customer service here is excellent and very patient (as I took a long time trying to narrow down what to purchase). We were helped by a saleswoman as well as one of the glass blowers/co-owner of the store. The pieces are stunning and truly works of art. We ended up buying a stunning jellyfish piece, two plumeria bowls (great for souvenirs), and another piece and I'm in love with the pieces! We came across many shops in Maui selling glass pieces and 1) they were so overpriced compared to Hot Island Glass, and 2) the quality came nowhere close in comparison to Hot Island Glass -- Hot Island Glass' work is so much more beautiful and intricate at a fraction of the price! Loved this place and am very excited to own these beautiful pieces. They wrapped them very carefully for easy transport. We carried these pieces in a small bag onto the plane separate from our other carry-on without any issues.

Yelp
We stopped in to Hot Island Glass on on most recent trip to Makawao. Unfortunately they weren't blowing glass at the time but hopefully some time in the future I can stop in to check them out doing that. I have always been fascinated and enamoured with glass art. It is amazing some of the art that produce. They have pieces for every budget from small $20 pieces to big beautiful pieces going for upwards of $3000. Their Jellyfish pieces are amazing and it would be interesting to see how they sculpt those out of hot glass. Amazing detail on them and when you put one on a lightstand, like they had one in the store, it really brings it to life. This is a definite stop if you go shopping in Makawao!

Yelp
I am like a kid in a candy store every time I go to this adorable establishment! Chris and Chris are truly artists. My husband and I are addicted to this place and buy at least one piece of beautiful glass art every time we step inside their gallery. The staff are helpful and friendly and patient. We have commissioned several pieces, as well. Our house is filled with their beautiful works of glass art.

Dave M.

Yelp
Great selection and customer service! Hard to find (through the art gallery) but don't miss it!

Jen L.

Yelp
One of the coolest glass shops I have ever been in. He works his magic and in minutes makes something extraordinary. Come in and watch. There are a few bar stools. A tip jar. One of a kind glass work. His own style. These pieces of art seem like they are moving. Totally mesmerizing. Typical souvenir stuff for sale: dishes, glassware, jewelry, paper weights etc but the big pieces are stunning. Love the sand blasted vases. Etched designs. I would own serval if I could.

Gary R.

Yelp
They have a great selection and we're happy to deliver and install the pieces I purchased, but be warned you won't get out of their with out spending money.

Monica I.

Yelp
Cooool. No demos on the day we visited, but probably a good thing as the town had a power outage. ;-) Such amazing creations here. And don't be afraid to open the cabinets to see more! There's even a shelf of 2nds that were still amazing!

Jesse M.

Yelp
I worked as a glassblower and salesperson at this shop for five years. It's the cleanest studio I've ever seen. The two owners, Chris and Chris are really solid guys and extremely talented. If the business were located 2,000 miles closer to my family and everyone I love the most, I probably never would have left. That's the only reason I quit. My whole family lives in California, where I grew up. Chris Richards wrote me a letter of recommendation. They both gave me a generous parting gift as I left. Awesome place and great work experience! If you really want to see them in action it is best to CALL IN FIRST to make sure they are blowing that day. Power outages are a fact of life and Sundays are usually the only day they aren't in the studio. The shop is open every day 9-5 HST and there is always someone there. They can safely ship anything internationally. Aloha!

Yelp
Makawao is an interesting town in that it revels in its rustic cowboy history, yet has also become one of Maui's richest art enclaves. There are many art galleries and handicraft shops to explore. You can easily spend an entire day browsing and sightseeing. I am fascinated by art glass, so a visit to Hot Island Glass studio was a real treat. Two partners, both named Chris, are second-generation artist/proprietors of this establishment. You can watch them create beautiful glass art objects right before your eyes, and they will enthusiastically demonstrate the entire process. There is a large display of their work in the gallery, most of which is for sale. We bought one of their signature jellyfish sculptures. They do the packing and shipping back to the mainland. It's always a real conversation piece for everyone who visits our home, and is a wonderful souvenir of our trip to Maui. http://www.hotislandglass.com/

Yelp
Coming to Maui every summer, this shop has become a regular shopping stop. I am fascinated by the skill and beauty of their craft. I especially love the jellyfish globes. I have decorated my bathrooms with the plumeria bowls and glasses. I highly recommend making a trip to Makawao for this shop and other unique boutiques.

Debbie R.

Yelp
Wow! Beautiful works of art in this place. Plus, they do live glass making. The jellyfish pieces are just beautiful, next time I'm there (and can afford one) I'm picking one up.

Toni M.

Yelp
How could I not have reviewed these guys?? We have visited their studio many times when we've been in Maui and I even have one of their little pieces, a turtle that must be 10 or 15 years old. We watched it being made. (Later: after we returned home I checked the date on the bottom and it was 2001.) When I fell in love w/ a glass bowl at Martin & MacArthur Gallery in Kauai yesterday I didn't realize it was theirs, but Taryn told us last evening when Alan bought it for me. That prompted me to check whether I had reviewed them. Hot Island Glass was first owned by Sally and Bill Worcester. Chris Lowry worked w/ the Worcesters before moving to the East Coast for further study. Chris Richards studied w/ the Worcesters, who are his aunt and uncle. In 2000 Chris Richards and Chris Lowry bought the business from the Worcesters. I have watched them grow in artistry over the course of many years and am proud now to own one of their fine art pieces.

Yelp
I've never come to Maui and not visited Hot Island Glass. On most visits we get to see an amazing creation in progress. One time they did a massive crackle glaze vase which was a bit like watching a high wire act - any mistake and all would be lost. Other times it's been other pieces but each is fascinating to see develop into something wonderful. A few years ago we bought a small set of the plumeria bowls which are beautiful for sorbet. A few other pieces grace our home and sometime we might splurge on one of their signature larger pieces. Worth saving for. The staff is always pleasant and happy to have the audience and seem to encourage photography.

Laura D.

Yelp
Super fun to watch them blow glass, we saw them pressing it to make plumeria bowls. All the pieces were amazing and I wish I had money (and a house without curious kitties) to buy a few!

Brian K.

Yelp
Brian K. As a professional glass artists for some 26 years I have admired and enjoyed the exceptional talented skills of you both . I look forward every year for your annual sale card.

Gen E.

Yelp
This studio is such an experience to visit. You can watch the glassblowing right there in front of you, and the pieces they make are eye catching and one of a kind. Although a little spendy (and rightfully so) these pieces are original and beautiful. Everytime we take a vacation I buy something on our trip that is unique to that place to remember it by. So after walking out of that place my husband asked if I wanted a $600 jellyfish. He loved it as much as I did... maybe next time honey, this year we will get a book :)
