Good place, food is good, it is some sort of 50 shades of potato 🥔 place, thus the name and menu. i know this place for quite some time, maybe ten years or so. Some dishes are really big, like pork leg, I do recommend that one. Octopus salad not so much. Timberland salad is good. Waitresses are very nice, polite ladies, Violetta were exceptionally helpful, can't say enough good words.

I’m writing this review enjoying my leftovers since the portions were so generous. And it tastes amazing while at a reasonable price. Get the signature potato mushroom cheese dish. The staff is totally professional and courteous.

I had an amazing time at this restaurant! The East European food was the best I've had in New York. The borscht soup was delicious, and I loved the refreshing peach punch. The prosciutto and melon combination was a delightful surprise with great texture. I'll definitely be coming back for more!

Had a family outing here yesterday. Incredibly professional staff and the kitchen is one of the absolute best in New York and not just for Eastern European fare but more generally. Everything was incredibly fresh. After years of not coming here out of just not knowing of its quality , it’s now my new favorite restaurant in the area.

Yesterday we sat in this establishment. I wanted to brighten up my Friday evening with delicious Russian cuisine with my family. result: food 🤮 knuckle with salad stank of rotten food. Of all the things we ordered, the only thing edible was the herring with bread bought in the store. The tables and the room itself were unkempt, dirty, and there was a smell of cigarettes and rotten food. gloomy atmosphere in the establishment, the waitresses are unkempt and rude. While serving, the waitress coughed and sneezed. the bill came to $300 for two and a child. the prices are just like in expensive restaurants in Manhattan and do not correspond to the level. I'm very sorry for wasting time and money. expected better. We came from New Jersey. I don't recommend it, terrible disgusting place.

This is a hidden gem. The staff is very friendly, the outdoor patio is cozy and the valet parking is convenient. They got live music on the weekend too. This is a must try place if you live in the area. Their delivery is fast and the food comes fresh. 10/10.

Just went to the Hot Potato House last week-on a weekday for a small Birthday celebration. It's a local restaurant near by Manhattan Beach, Brooklyn, where locals like to dine (even bringing they own alcohol-uncorking is just $5!) We weren't hungry that evening, just party of 2, and decided to share everything- We ordered the signature's Avocado/Pumpkin salad-my favorite salad here with baked Pumpkin- delicious! Portion so big-might be shared by 3 people! Our grilled sea bass filet with vegetables was prepared to perfection! (See picture) Served in the foil, it kept all the flavor of the dish-perfection! Our waiter Sergei ( who is also a musician/singer) suggested it would be good for 2 people and he was right!!! Sea bass was divided to 2 parts and we were totally full! But... because of Birthday, we decided to order a cake and, again, thanks to Sergei recommendation, picked Apple Strudel, comes with ice cream... The venue bake it by themself, by the way... The pie was melting in my mouth, like an ice cream- soft/rich/unique... also perfect for 2! What I didn't expect- Sergei said the Apple Strudel is on the House... we were trying to dispute it... but... in the bill it wasn't counted. We left a double tip, of course, almost covering the pie. Don't expect to get a pie on the House; I think it was given to us because I kind of regular here... not regular -regular-but was in Hot Potato a number of times. Great place to have a nice meal after the beach, they used to have a live music, but we were on Thursday...

Great smaller Russian-style restaurant in Brighton that is ideal for small to medium gatherings. Groups of up to 14 or so people were there on the night we visited and we really appreciated the lively vibe. Since our group was going to a concert in 30 minutes or so, we didn't experience the menu past the beer selections but everyone there seemed to be having an awesome time and enjoying their meals.

This restaurant had numerous opportunities to get a five star review, but unfortunately, it will have to settle for less due to lackluster service, high pricing, inconvenient fees, and a rather disappointing finale. What prevents it from going any worse is the fact that the food is pretty good, and for the most part, well portioned. Their latkes might be some of the best you will ever have, outside of any Jewish deli. You get three perfectly portioned potato disks bursting with flavor, a nice amount of crust and grease that is not overwhelming either. Too few would be a ripoff and one too many would have me running for the nearest toilet. As someone who has eaten plenty of these in my lifetime, I recommend getting them with sour cream and applesauce for sides. Who says it has to be Chanukah to enjoy these? For my main entree I got one of their specials, the Wild Boar sausage. It comes with a fried egg, mushrooms, fried potatoes, and a side of mustard. This dish is very tasty... if done right. Boar meat is very gamey and chewy, and this dish is no exception. It cuts easily, but do not ignore the egg and mustard. Use both to create an insane flavor, or just let the yolk of the egg run over some of the food. Then you will have yourself a nice brunch! Skip the dessert. I am not even going to get into it. The strudel is tiny and though it is homemade, it lacks any sort of personality. Hans Landa would agree with me if he ate this. The complementary bread is great without overdoing the restaurant experience. Be careful when you eat in, they drop a little service charge on you if you do not look. It is not much, but is completely unnecessary, in my opinion. Let me enjoy my fare in sound peace of mind. In addition, they need more servers. Two servers during a lunch rush is not enough, though they were clearly working very hard. This might explain why some of the food I had was somewhat inconsistent. While this restaurant has a Eastern European flair, it definitely has a Russian feel to it, given it is in Manhattan Beach and close by two other Russian-heavy neighborhoods in southern Brooklyn, Brighton Beach and Sheepshead Bay. I recommend, just not going overboard.

Hot Potato House is one of a kind. One of the best restaurants to dine at this holiday season. I always order their borscht. It's super flavorful and I love that it's served with a savory meat puff pastry. They absolutely have the best potato latkes in all of Brooklyn! They are so fresh and crispy, fried to perfection. Make sure you order them with sour cream! The restaurant has plenty of other delicious appetizers and meals, but their potato and root vegetable based items are always top stand outs. HPH is 100% a South Brooklyn must!

I've heard great things over the last few years and wanted to check this place out. Comfort country Russian food prevails here. The menu is all over the place, but the standouts are all the potato-based dishes drenched with butter, sour cream, and/or cheese, as well as the dumplings and blini. This is definitely a doggy bag kind of place. My okroshka was top notch and the draniki with mushroom and cheese was a dish that could have had a family of hungry peasants. Atmosphere in the outside tent garden was really relaxed, which was great. Inside they have evening music and larger parties.

I'd rate Hot Potato House four and a half stars. HPH is one of the few restaurants located in Manhattan Beach. It's a less densely populated residential area, so parking is a little easier than in nearby neighborhoods like Sheepshead Bay and Brighton Beach. I'd categorize the cuisine as Home style Eastern European. We dined in on a Friday night. They had some live soloists performing a mix of English and Russian songs. It was a fun and laid back atmosphere. We started with a Greek salad. Absolutely loaded with toppings and dressing. Certainly my style of salad. It was delicious but not your low calorie diet salad. Next, we had the latkes with apple sauce and the crepes with chicken and mushroom gravy. Both were ultra comfy and savory. Latke was well fried and just the perfect amount of greasy. Crepe was savory too and should be homey for southerners and Eastern Europeans alike. For the main course, we shared the Moldovan Kostiza for two. Huge portion! It's a giant chunk of pork slow cooked and slathered with caramelized onions, garlic, and tomato. Served alongside their fried potatoes and mushrooms along with a pickle. The fried potatoes and mushrooms were some of the best I've had. Highly recommend them. Pork was ginormous. We were unable to finish it and took a hefty portion home. Service was attentive. Most of the food came out quickly. Only the kostiza took some time, but it's one of those dishes that takes longer to prepare so that was understandable. There was one gender neutral restroom which was handicap accessible. BYOB was permitted.

This restaurant is always severely understaffed, so prepare to wait a whiiiiile to catch a waiter, place your order, get food. Prices are Manhattan prices, so prepare to pay a pretty penny. 10% service charge will be added to your bill automatically. Very casual atmosphere. Make reservations for weekends. Some food, like $20 salad Timberland and $33 sweet & sour beef entree were tasty. Other dishes, like $65 seafood linguine, were bland, tasteless, and severely overpriced. Portions are on the smaller size.

It's been a minute since I've been at this restaurant. I started coming here in 2016 when they first opened. I remember the owner Greg was very nice and replied to my Yelp review and thanked me for it and was 4 stars. That told me something about his character and that of the restaurant. Almost 6 years later they still serve great food, have friendly service, keep the restaurant spotless and thankfully survived through COVID when many restaurants don't. Guess what the owner Greg was here working and I was able to speak with him for a few minutes catching up on things. Nice to see when so many other businesses have absentee owners. The added live jazz music Friday, Saturday and Sunday night. They do an interesting spin on Russian, Brazilian and American music. Talented musicians as well and they engage the room. I highly recommend them and I hope you come out and support the restaurant.

We loved our dinner at Potato House. Great atmosphere with live music. The skirt steak on a salad was delicious as were the potato pancakes and perogies. Nice service too. Excellent!

Excellent pieroges and latkes. Good service and price. Live music playing in the background and yummy drinks. We'll come back again. And the whole Brighton beach scene is very cool.

The food was like home cooking, they had a fabulous 30% off appetizer-I chose the eggplant-they gave me bread with it, offered tap water-I was on a budget today. I'll come back again and try their special items-so many appealing choices on menu. The service was SWEET. The ambulance was "peaceful, with a great breeze outside and up beat music"

Wonderful food and atmosphere, and the folks who work there are just the best. Absolutely worth visiting Coney Island just to have a bite here.

I had this restaurant on my bookmarks list, so I jumped at the chance to dine here after spending the afternoon at nearby Coney Island Beach. The place was super adorable with ample outdoor seating available. I liked how the tables had beautiful marbling. I did not like the amount of flies and bugs crawling around the table and coming way too close to our food. As the evening continued, the staff brought over lanterns and lit tiki lights on fire, which helped the situation immensely. Upon being seated, we were served complimentary bread - Sourdough and rye. The bread was soft and was okay with some butter, however it was no longer warm. I ordered the rack of lamb, which comes with wild rice, but I chose to select sides of mashed potato, salad, and mixed vegetables, which was an additional $3. I was a little disappointed when I was saw the dish, because it was literally only 2 lamb chops, which I don't think warrants the cost of $33. That being said, the lamb was definitely expertly cooked, and delightfully tender, succulent, juicy, full of flavorful seasoning, with perfect char marks. The white sauce that it came with really complemented the lamb well. The mashed potatoes were nice and creamy. The salad, along with the baby corn and carrots were mediocre. I also got to try the potato latkes, crepes with chicken & mushroom, and avocado-pumpkin salad. I really enjoyed the potato latkes with applesauce. The potatoes were incredibly crispy and well seasoned. The crepes were great as well. You could discern that they were homemade with care, and the accompanying savory white sauce was wonderful. The sauce paired beautifully with the chicken and mushroom. The salad was also good and consisted of baked pumpkin, avocado, cheddar cheese, along with mixed greens and orange dressing. All the ingredients were fresh, crunchy, and I especially liked the pumpkin. With the Yelp check in, there was an offer for free dessert, so I asked our waiter about it and he checked with management. When he returned, he let us know they are not honoring it. I was going to let it go, but decided to ask the manager and he accommodated the request. The only restriction was that I couldn't pick the Tart Tatten. I wanted the Proline or Chocolate Cake, but unfortunately they were out of both. I settled for the Crepes stuffed with Apple Nostalgia. This was quite yummy, especially served warm. The crepes were cooked just the right amount and were slightly caramelized, elevating the flavors. Inside, the crepes were filled with pieces of apples and sweet sugary apple compote. The service was not very consistent. The waitress who initially came to our table, was a bit on the rude side. Thankfully, another gentleman came to take our order and was much more friendly and made sure were properly taken care of. While I thought the food was tasty, the proportions were small for the prices. I am glad I had the opportunity to try this place, but I won't be back.

Probably my favorite Russian Restraunt in South Brooklyn. The food is always great, and it's not pricey.

The food here is amazing! I tried the potato lattkes with red caviar and wow, so good, better than any I've had before. I tried the Crepes Nostalgia dessert and, though the apple filling is a little too sweet, the crepes themselves were perfect and overall it was a great bite. I was so impressed with the food that I came back and got a takeout order to bring to the city with me on my way back! The to-go food was well-packed and both dishes, shepherd's pie and mushroom zrazy (patties stuffed with sauteed wild mushrooms), reheated well and were absolutely delicious. Service was excellent, unlike many places in nearby Brighton Beach. Our waitress was friendly and attentive, and spoke fluent English and Russian. There was great attention to COVID safety, which was much appreciated. Our waitress wore a mask at all times and the outdoor patio is very nice with more than 6 feet between tables. They have hand sanitizer and soap towelettes on each table too. Menus are the paper takeout trifold variety, and they are yours to keep - smart because I got the extra food later lol So why 4 stars and not 5? When we called ahead to see if the restaurant and bathroom are wheelchair accessible we were assured they were. The bathroom is not in fact wheelchair accessible. To get there, you have to make a tight turn that is impossible due to the placement of a very large cabinet holding dishes. The Americans with Disabilities Act has been the law for 30 years and the design guidelines are mandatory, not a nice to have, so it's very frustrating to encounter completely avoidable obstructions. Unless you can walk a few feet and have someone to help you, you will not be able to use the bathroom if you are in a wheelchair. The bathroom itself does have a grab bar next to the toilet and is a small room rather than stalls, but may not be big enough for all chairs.

What an incredible place! I came in with a bunch of friends for a 40th birthday party celebration. We were treated like family! Anna, our magical waitress, was warm and kind, recommended dishes, vodkas, and even sang with us. The food is EXCELLENT. Everything we ate was divine. Best latkes I've had outside of my family's house, and the perogis are like clouds. Even the brown bread they serve pre meal is delicious. The horseradish vodka was also a treat. So special! Nothing could have been better.

Let me start by saying that they have a new chef. The food was amazing, which was really good before as well. The main reason why I noticed the change, was because of the borscht. No meat, no potatoes and vegetables are chopped really big. That was the only disappointment. For $13 ( I believe), meat should be included and potatoes are a must. The prices are high. Expect to spend close to $75-100 per person. $10 for 2 tiny scoops of ice cream is not acceptable. The biggest surprise was the waitress. Innessa. She was a dream. I have not seen a real waitress or waiter in years who actually worked for their money, regardless of the fact that 15% was already included in the bill. First time in a long time, it was a pleasure to leave more. Hope she is appreciated by owners.

Hot Potato House has been the site of many family gatherings. The service is always attentive and helpful and the food is yummy home style cooking. I rarely get meat here but all the potato variations and soups are delicious. Kids eat free if adults order $30+ M-Th, which is a nice touch. Home made fruit punch is refreshing and tasty.

There are 2 simple elements to running a great restaurant: great food and great service. Seems easy enough, yet so many place miss the mark, or have it initially and then, go downhill. You can be confident that no matter what you order and no matter who serves you, it will be an amazing experience. A few weeks ago, my brother was in Brookyln after hiking with a group of friends and called me for a recommendation. Without hesitation, I told him to come to HPH. His group was taken care of by Inessa, and they all have commented on how much they enjoyed the evening. A few weeks later, we came here for a casual family lunch to celebrate my husband's birthday. This time, Violetta took care of us, and once again, everything was just awesome. The service is genuinely warm and friendly. The food is fresh and delicious. The whole vibe is very relaxing. No one is rushing you or pushing higher-priced specials. This has become one of my favorite restaurants in Brooklyn and an absolute top favorite for Russian food.

During COVID time - we came here because of cozy and spacious outside dining, but will keep on visiting because of the great food and welcoming stuff! We tried stuffed potatoes with mushrooms (5/5) and pork (5/5), harcho soup (5/5 as well). We also tried sea ​​buckthorn tea and apple pie - delish. (6/5 ha) Definitely visit this place if I'm the area!

This is exactly the type of Russian feast I had in mind when I started the trek to Brighton Beach. Don't let the name fool you - Hot Potato House is much more than just potatoes. This is not a complaint at all, but more of a heads up that might actually work out in your favor: there's no alcohol, but the BYOB rule is strongly encouraged. A little wine and liquor store is conveniently located right around the corner. You can also give your waiters cash, and they will be happy to bring back alcohol to you from the next door restaurant, Anyway Cafe, whose adorable garden is honestly worthy of a visit after dinner too. We had 3 appetizers here - okroshka (cold summer soup), veal tongue, and salo assortment (variety of fatty pork lard). The first two were absolute perfection to me, but the salo was a pretty solid option as well. Now if you're looking to get a dessert, the tiramisu was just a little hidden gem that almost got away - treat yo'self! So worth it! This place is full of Russian culture - from the staff, to the visitors that are mostly clear regulars, to the tasty food that reminded me of the childhood food goodies I indulged in growing up in Eastern Europe. I will be back, that is a fact. Do svidaniya!

I'm a huge fan of Eastern European cuisine, and there's really no better place to get some tasty, authentic nosh than 'Little Odessa' aka Brighton Beach. I found yet another gem in the area! This one is a bit further from the main strip, and technically in Manhattan Beach, but is still BYOV (vodka) and has similar menu items. This one however is heavy on the potato plates, hence the name. We ordered potato latkes for the kiddos (choice of apple sauce or sour cream). There were so many varieties to choose from, even stuffed options, which I have never seen before! Wow! We also ordered the fried potatoes with mushrooms. If you've never had fried potatoes from this type of restaurant, you just must! They are incredible, and these were some of the best I've had! Fried to golden perfection, just the right amount of garlic taste, loaded with meaty mushrooms and topped with fresh dill! Yum!! They have many other varieties if mushrooms aren't your thing. There's also pierogis too! We also strayed from our normal go-to (the Greek salad) at these types of places and chose the pumpkin avocado salad because the mix of unlikely ingredients was just so intriguing! It was absolutely delicious! Topped with pumpkin seeds, which gave it a nice crunch, and tossed in a nice citrus orange dressing giving it a hint of tang. Definitely worth a shot to share for the table. The menu was loaded with tempting choices and they also have daily and seasonal specials. If we had a bit more time, I would have liked to end our filling meal with tea service. It's always an extra special treat at these restaurants and this one in particular had beautiful tea urns I noticed on the bar! Happy hour is from 6-8pm daily where mixed drinks are just $5. Live music on the patio from 9-12pm on weekend nights. Service was fine and the place was lovely and darker with a nice mix of opulence and vintage type decor details. My only compliant would be it was very hot inside. I will note it was an unseasonably warm day no one was expecting, but still, we were uncomfortable. I would love to come back with a large group and sit outside for dinner! It looks like it could be a real good, lively time! *Watch the parking signs on the main streets. There are some spots on the residential streets. Valet is available also.

Hot Potato House has an amazing array of food selections. I am never disappointed with the food orders I make either in the restaurant or when I order takeout. Always a delight to see something new on the menu to try. The restaurant ambiance is nice because they always have live music. The people who run the restaurant and the wait staff are always warm and welcoming. Tip: make sure to make a reservation at this place ahead of time as this place gets busy very quickly. Especially, if you are celebrating a birthday or anniversary dinner with the family.

My friend came to visit from Florida and I saw recommendations on FB and we decided to go there. We were seating outside they had live music which was very nice The food was very good and our waiter Sergey was amazing. Overall great experience will definitely go back

Hot Potato House is a Eastern European restaurant in Brighton Beach, Brooklyn, NY. They serve more than just hot potatoes. The food is good, the dessert is better and the ambience is casual. My friend and I met for dinner during the week. It was after a rain storm and we welcomed a respite from the rain. A large family feasted and laughed in the main dining room. We were seated between the two dining areas. We ordered: Potato latkes with lox- this was delicious! Crispy potato pancakes with smoked lox and a fried egg. So many textures with the right amount of salinity. Crepes with salmon caviar- the crepes was smooth with slightly crisp edges. The caviar was good. Pork leg with sauerkraut and fried baby fingerling potatoes- The pork leg was massive! It was enough to feed 4-6 people. The pork was tender and juicy. The sauerkraut helped to cut into the rich fattiness of the pork. The potatoes added a welcome texture. Tiramisu- This was good typical Tiramisu. Tender ladyfingers soaked in espresso, layered with cream. Tart Tatten- this was a caramelized homemade apple tart with ice cream and topped with a rum sauce. It took a good 30 min to make. It was excellent! Buttered carmelized edges, sweetened apple with the creamy bitter rum sauce. You must eat it there! I loved it. Pro tip: do not take this dessert home. K and my friend found this dessert unpalatable after the textures have melded and the bitter sauce has soaked in. I would return if in the area! I would definitely order the latkes and lox and the tart tatten again!

Doesn't look much when you walk by. But I am happy when got inside. That's a very cozy place. Big variety of food . They don't serve alcohol though. We loved the potato patties and baked vareniki. The service was great too. And the way they serve tea is awesome- old Russian tradition- Samovar. We will be back again.

Don't be fooled by their exterior. The signage looks like it's made for a fast food joint, but the interior is rustic and has a "farmhouse" aesthetic. I came here last night for a family dinner and our host pre-ordered our meal. The appetizers (mostly cold dishes/salads) were out and ready for us upon arrival. Everything was light and fresh. Then the hot dishes came out. The latkas were crispy and soft. The interior was a little moist for my liking, but a decent latka nonetheless. The roast pork leg was very tender but the heat was unevenly distributed as I got a mix of cold and lukewarm meat, while others got hot pieces. I can only speak for the lamb in the meat combo, but it was well done and tough. The flavor was nice but it was a hard chop to chew. Overall, I left with a satisfied and full belly. The restaurant is located in a residential neighborhood so if you're driving, be prepared to walk several blocks as there are limited areas to park.

Large portions so you'll leave here stuffed! I would highly recommend: Duck Salad Tuna tartare I really wanted to get a potato latke but went with the house special latke with meat. Imagine a huge potato meatloaf. Overall great place, great food!

My mother, father and I went to this so called "great" place. My father ordered chicken which was very smelly and extremely poorly prepared. Don't even bother asking them for anything as they won't even respond. Worst experience ever. Way overpriced too

Really good Russian dishes with potatoes. The potato with chorizo was juicy inside and crunchy on the outside. So so good! As a desert we chose a tart that are freshly made when you order and it comes hot with ice cream on top.

Came here the other night to celebrate a Birthday, mistake. The waitress/hostess (Anna) was impossibly rude and immediately ruined the mood of everyone in my party (including my 11month old son). The food was average at best but for the prices charged id say even below average. Considering the latkes were their "specialty" they were probably the worst thing there (didnt even feel freshly made but more like re heated). The foi gras was in a word - not good. The tuna tartare was too salty and served on a pile of cream cheese (tuna on cream cheese? What?) anyway this place is bad dont waste your money (unless rude servers and subpar overpriced food is your thing).

This place is the worst ever! The food is horrible! The service is nasty! They give portions of one size and other times give much smaller for the same price and lie they always had it this way! Way too expensive for such horrible food and extremely poor service!

Food is delicious and great atmosphere. Live music on Friday night. Highly recommended.

The food is always delicious at Hot Potato House. We love the Pierrogies, the grilled shrimps, and the flounder. Everything we ordered were so good! The waiters were so sweet. I highly recommend.

Food here was tasty. A bit on the expensive side though. But the ingredients they use are fresh and I was satisfied with the various options they have.

Went to hot potato house for dinner for the first time since it has been suggested to me quite a lot over the last year. There were a few outstanding dishes and some not so great but overall I have to say it was a good experience. The highlights were: 1) these stuffed potato and mushrooms things that looked like over sized cutlets - yum 2) The leg of lamb was great 3) Filet mignon cooked as asked perfect medium rare 4) the short ribs were liked by all but me 5) the pumpkin Salad 6) there was a meat and cheese app it was pork so I didn't try it but it was loved by all who did The tar tar was surprisingly decent as was the stroganoff (I didn't try it). The latkas were a disappointment along with the potatoes and mushrooms home style which were ok but that's about it.

Ordered a 23$ entree (ole lamb) the order contained probably about 2 ounces of meat on the bone, extremely small portion for the price not even enough for one person. I feel they took advantage of the current situation and the fact that we ordered delivery, all portions in the order were too small for the price paid. I would not recommend ordering delivery again Editing to add that we were very impressed with how the situation was resolved by the owner. The replacement dish was much better than the original. We were happy that the owner took the time and effort to address our concerns. Thank you!
