We received our GORGEOUS and DELICIOUS custom, heart-shaped, two-tier naked cake with fresh berries on time after our previous baker cancelled our order due to illness and we only had 3 days before my niece's quinceneara! The cake was exactly what my niece had hoped for and artistry was beautiful and stunning! The cake set the tone for the evening! I know a naked cake is more of a challenge that normal cakes, because you can’t really hide any mistakes, and my god, those layers were on full display and something to behold! The team at Hotcakes Bakes is incredibly talented and we will absolutely be recommending to all our friends and family! You will not be disappointed! And the idea of having one less thing to worry about is a dream!

Whenever I'm back in the neighborhood Hotcakes is a must-stop. Everything is absolutely amazing. Quality ingredients make quality pastries, cupcakes. Just sweet enough to satisfy your sweet tooth, without the sugar hangover. Delicate, beautiful and delicious. Apologies for the pictures, but we had to taste before getting home, but you get to see the filling. They also have natural wines now.

I ordered a two tiered Halloween cake for a party from Hotcakes Bakes based on a photo on their website (see the photo of the same cake below on my receipt). The cake I got was one tier with far less decoration. When I called to point out that the cake they had in the photo was not the one they sent me, they refused to take any responsibility for putting a different cake both on the website and on my receipt. If you buy something based on a labeled photo, that's what you should get. Their "offer" to help me was to send out some cupcakes--but I would have to pay for them! I've learned my lesson about this bakery.

Got a cake here for my birthday OMG! Lavender and earl grey cake was amazing and a huge hit. So many bakeries around LA pride themselves on being “custom” yet don’t offer more than a few flavors, hot cake bakes has great options for flavors and the cake I had was absolutely amazing and priced very affordably.

Five Stars for Hotcakes Bakes Mitch walked in looking like the most ridiculous person imaginable—he was decked out in a full pink ballerina costume, complete with a fluffy tutu, feather boa, ballet slippers, and frilly tights due to a lost bet. He looked like a grown man trapped in a toddler’s dance recital nightmare. Everyone in the shop couldn’t help but stare, and the giggles started almost immediately. I have never witnessed anything more humiliating than what my brother Mitch endured at Hotcakes Bakes. You could literally see people whispering to each other, trying to figure out if they were imagining things or if Mitch had lost a very serious bet. He looked absolutely mortified as he stood there in his pink tutu, knowing full well that every pair of eyes in the place was on him. To add to his embarrassment, the staff at Hotcakes Bakes were having the time of their lives. They pointed out that the pink cupcake matched his tutu perfectly and insisted that he buy it. Mitch, trying to maintain whatever dignity he had left, went along with it. But that wasn’t the end of it—they made him sing and perform “I’m a Little Teapot” right in the middle of the shop! It was beyond cringeworthy to watch as Mitch, in his ridiculous outfit, had to act out the song in front of everyone. The staff and customers were laughing so hard, it felt like the entire place was in on his humiliation. Despite the utter embarrassment Mitch endured, I have to say, the cupcake was incredible. It was soft, moist, and the pink frosting was just the right amount of sweet. So while Mitch may have been dying of embarrassment, at least the cupcake was a bright spot. If you want delicious cupcakes and an unforgettable (and humiliating) experience, Hotcakes Bakes is the place to go. Just don’t show up in a tutu unless you’re ready to be the star of the show like my poor brother Mitch! I hear they would like Mitch to make an Encore performance, and I'm sure he can get Mitch the hairy fairy to put on another performance! LOL Thanks again!!

Lately, I’ve been going through a sweet tooth craze! While driving around West LA, we drove past Hotcakes Bakes. With my sweet tooth, actually, I should say sweet teeth; hubby and I decided to turn around and check them out. We found a parking spot in the back behind the building and walked around to enter. We were greeted right away, and we immediately looked to see what they had to offer. They have cupcakes, cakes, tarts, brownies, croissants, gelato, coffee, etc. Hubby and I ended up getting some cupcakes (big and mini), a cake roll, and a berry tart. The lady that was helping us was new, and she was very patient with us because we kept adding more and more to our order. When it was time to check out, we wanted to order coffee. As we were about to tell the lady which coffee we wanted, another lady from the back came out and overheard us trying to order coffee, and very rude said, “she’s new, she doesn’t know how to make coffee yet, I do, but there are other people here, you’ll just have to wait.” Instead of clapping back at this lady, I just kindly said, we don’t want the coffee; we’ll go elsewhere for coffee. I felt that her tone was not needed, and we were here first, tell the other people to wait and make our coffee. The new lady could’ve helped the other folks after checking us out. Ugh! Unfortunately, both the cake roll & berry tart were not good. The berry tart tasted old and was super hard. The cake roll tasted funny, wasn’t good. We ended up throwing both of those treats in the trash after one bite. The cupcakes were just eh. The only pretty fantastic tasting was the mango tres leches cupcake. That was fire!!! After our first bite, I made my hubby go back for more of just those. When my hubby came back out, the rude lady told him she could make our coffees now. Girl bye! It’s too late. But yet she made coffee for the people waiting in line behind when we checked out the first time. Even though that mango cupcake was stupid delicious and the shop is super cute, I won’t be coming back. That rude lady ruined it for us. That’s ok, though; there are plenty of other bakeshops around.

Cute Bakery. Prices were good. I ordered the Banana cream pie and the Flourless Chocolate cake. The Banana cream pie was good. Next time I’ll try the cupcakes.

Google
Cupcakes are not good (borderline stale or just not soft cake) AND over priced. Worst service experience I’ve ever had given the only shopper dropping $50+ on mini cupcakes and the attendant stood there like a deer in headlights while I wiped the glass of all the built up condensation which blocked the view of options and she replied, “It just gets like that” lmao well interesting that this squeegee places nicely on top of the glass fixes the view and all I had to do was use it. Completely looked past her laziness and continued to make my order and when she finally rang me out she wouldn’t give me a box because I didn’t get a cake; instead gave me two plastic containers that were inconvenient to carry and she didn’t have any bags. Too bad I ordered less items in the past, $30, and they gave me a box without me having to ask so I know she was just being difficult. If the cupcakes had been good I would’ve been happy but they were almost hard. Someone please put this place out if business and let something worthwhile come to the block instead. Only good item was the cheesecake, while any cake item was not soft and just a waste of money. Tiramisu was mediocre at best.

Yelp
It is such a shame that small businesses close simply because people can be difficult It is a shame to see an INSTITUTION go out of business. I hope the 1-star reviews were worth it.

Yelp
Cake roll and pies are amazing. Honestly, I didn't give this place a try for a long time due to bad review. On Tuesday, I finally decided to try for myself. Everything was absolutely delicious. Price is great. I live close by Susie Cakes and their stuff is more $$$. I'll definitely return to this great gem again

Emmie H.

Yelp
This was a great stop! Came here after a stop at SOBAR and was greeted by lovely staff who explained all of their options. I got the almond cake roll with fresh berries which was really quite good though a little bit on the drier side. I am excited to stop by and try some more!

Yelp
Wow! It's closed drive over here to get the 2 dozens I usually get for when we have baptisms at church... and they are closed If anyone knows they are relocating to a different location, please let me know.

Carina L.

Yelp
This bakery was my favorite one growing up. I'll admit I didn't come as regularly in most recent years, but I remember coming in for a sweet treat and always enjoying every bite. My favorite was the Boston cream cupcake back when it was still available individually. As someone mentioned, I considered this location an establishment. Not sure if the expansion was too fast or just business changed, but I will definitely miss this bakery! Would love to see if Elfie can remain with a cottage license for small orders!

Yelp
I've had great cupcakes from this bakery and I've been waiting months for my birthday to finally order a cake! I believed it would be just as amazing as their cupcakes. My husband placed an order 1 week before and the cake was wrong. He ordered the heart vintage and got a round. When he brought it home and I realized it was wrong he called and the lady said "oh yes you did order a heart, but I forgot and told them to bake a round, you can return it for your money back or wait 4 days for the correct cake." To make it even worse, the cake wasn't moist and tasted old. The layers of cake were inconsistent. The bottom layer was overbaked and hard. The top layer looked like it was baked in a different batch and was softer in texture. I've read other reviews and it seems like management doesn't have good customer service in taking accountability or care to satisfy their customers even when they made a mistake on their part. It may seem insignificant to them, but it meant a lot to me and for my husband to get rude service to a valid complaint is is unacceptable. They've lost our business. PSA: If you still decide to order a cake with them, please hold their hand during the entire process to ensure it's done correctly and be prepared to have a backup plan.

Yelp
I think the picture says all that it needs to. Believe the reviews, DO NOT COME HERE. It is the WORST bakery I have ever been to. Service was beyond terrible and the store was dirty. The table was full of crumbs and left over cake product (I didn't sit and wait because it so dirty I didn't want to get frosting on myself). I arrived to the store right when they opened on 6/08 so I'm unsure why the cleanliness was at a 0/10 which is concerning since they are handling FOOD. There were 2 workers at the front who had the WORST attitude. I came to pick up my cake for my wedding and when I saw the cake I was in utter shock. I was totally catfished cause it looked NOTHING like the photo they advertised online. I was pretty upset when I first saw the cake I had already paid for online. I walked out and walked back in to ask if they could redo the lettering in cursive via like the photo online. As soon I walked back in (a word hadn't come out of my mouth yet), the same worker rudely and aggressively asked me "WHATS WRONG". She was very hostile and I did not understand how walking into an establishment warranted such rude behavior. When they redid the writing, the attached photo was the BEST they could do. At this point from the service, disappointment in getting catfished, and how they "fixed" the cake, I was so over it. I ended up going to the Northgate bakery that was down the street and asked if they can fix what this "bakery" clearly couldn't do. I attached a photo where the Northgate baker was able to fix in 5 minutes compared to whatever Hotcakes tried to do. Honestly a hotmess than hotcakes.

Yelp
I honestly can't believe how terrible my experience was at this place. From the moment I walked in, not a single word of greeting. I was the only one there, and the employee didn't even acknowledge my presence. I felt completely invisible. To top it off, she was unbelievably rude and lazy in her job. I had asked for 24 mini cupcakes and 2 large cupcakes, she handed me the 2 large cupcakes--*just the cupcake*, no box, no packaging, nothing, just gave it to me in my hand. As if the service wasn't bad enough, the cupcakes were absolutely disgusting. They were dry, hard, and tasted like they'd been sitting out for days. I was seriously shocked at how awful they were. Then, I tried the fruit tart. It looked gorgeous, but when I bit into it, I gagged. It tasted spoiled, like it had been rotting for who knows how long. I couldn't have been more disappointed. I had originally considered getting a custom cake from them, but now, there's no way I'd trust them for anything again. I had spent money on 24 cupcakes for a special occasion, and the whole experience was a letdown. The food was bad and the service was worse.

Yelp
This is a good, neighborhood bakery on a busy stretch of Centinela near Washington. They have nice croissants and a wide selection of cupcakes. My favorite is the lemon blueberry loaf cake. It is absolutely delicious. They sell it by the slice. They also have other loaf cakes that I have not yet tried. They also have a small selection of cookies that are pretty good.

Jilly B.

Yelp
First time coming here, I got a six pack of regular sized cupcakes. They were reasonably priced and very delicious, very moist and the flavors were great. This is a cute shop that also sells coffee and other celebratory goodies! Cupcakes were for no special occasion because I believe any-day is a good day for cupcake! Would come here again, we parked in back since the street parking here is a nightmare in peak traffic on weekday.

Yelp
Such a neighborhood gem. this place had created a name for itself and for a good reason! They bake and craft delicious cupcakes, cakes along with other baked goods. Everything is fresh, high quality, delicious and beautiful. anytime you see a box of Hot Cakes at a party or event, you can get excited to enjoy one of these delectable creations. You can now enjoy on site service, as they expanded and have tables. They serve coffee and other drinks alongside all the bakery items. kind and helpful staff and free street parking in front makes it super convenient.

Yelp
I've never seen anything funnier in my life. My brother Mitch had to go to Hotcake Bakes after losing a bet, dressed as a full-grown pink ballerina. I'm talking a tight white leotard, a fluffy pink tutu, white tights, and to top it off, frilly ruffled bottoms. You can imagine the kind of looks he got walking into a bakery dressed like that. The staff at Hotcake Bakes couldn't hold back their laughter when they saw him. One of them joked about how the pink cupcake matched his tutu perfectly. But then, it got so much worse. They made him perform "I'm a Little Teapot" right there in front of everyone! Imagine a grown man doing that awkward tip-over move, frilly panties showing, while people are standing in line, snickering and taking pictures. It didn't stop there, either. Mitch had to awkwardly wait for other customers to order their cupcakes while standing at the counter, looking like an overgrown toddler in a dance recital. Every person in that bakery stared, laughed, and whispered as he stood there, beet-red with embarrassment, trying to pretend he wasn't dying inside. Mitch couldn't hide his awkwardness, and honestly, he looked like he was just trying to survive the whole thing. By the time he left, I'm sure his pride was left in shambles. That said, five stars to Hotcake Bakes for the excellent cupcakes, but even more so for giving me the best story I'll ever have on my brother. I've got photos, and trust me--he won't live this down anytime soon. P.S. If you ever need to feel better about yourself, just think of Mitch standing there in his tutu, waiting for strangers to finish ordering while trying to act like he wasn't the laughingstock of the bakery.

Amy S.

Yelp
I cannot say enough good things about this place! The people who work there are so lovely! The baked goods are insanely delicious! Pastry selections off the hook! My community is enriched by this establishment being here! I urge everyone I know to come over and populate their cool surroundings! And it's down the street from PACOS... my favorite neighborhood Mexican eatery! 5 sweet stars times 100

Janice S.

Yelp
TOO GOOD TO GO order. It was my first time having this place. $6.99 for 4 pastries, they were ok. Very friendly staff.

Eric R.

Yelp
I ordered a Halloween party cake from Hotcakes Bakes. When I paid for the cake (including a delivery fee) the photo showed a two-tiered cake. When it arrived, it was a one-tiered cake with less decoration. I called Hotbakes with my concern. They told me that the cake I ordered was a different cake and that I should have known based on a drop down box. They refused to acknowledge that the photo of the cake I paid for misrepresented the cake they delivered. I didn't ask for a full refund, just an adjustment given the deceptive photo. They "offered" to send me some cupcakes to supplement the dessert--but that I would have to pay for them! The bottom line: if you sell a product based on a photo on your website, that needs to be the product your customer gets. I never had this kind of problem with Sweet Lady Jane's, which is where I recommend you take your business.

Francis V.

Yelp
They have cupcakes and coffee, and a nice comfy sitting area if you want to enjoy your food there. Street parking is available and the staff was nice.

Stacey M.

Yelp
Fantastic! The Snickerdoodle Cookies taste exactly like the ones they used to sell in Borders. Brings back memories of that fine time when people used to hang out in bookstores! But I digress.... Love their cookies and customer service is great as well.

Monique M.

Yelp
This place does not disappoint with custom cakes. I gave them a few ideas that I had in mind and they went over the top for my daughter's birth cake!! Highly recommend them!! And the cakes are delicious!! Never disappointed!!

Dayna C.

Yelp
I'm let down. I was super happy to find a familiar bakery that still had pie on Thanksgiving. In the past I've bought several birthday cakes from here for birthday parties. Today I bought an apple pie to take to a friend's house. It's a no. Is a tearful no. Because I slapped down 45 hard earned dollars for a little apple pie. I thought....this is gonna be delicious. My friend loved it. Because the slicing of the apples, that precision was on. But for me a 45 dollar pie shouldn't have mealy apples. The texture wasn't for me. Wasn't much taste to it either. Though....I appreciated that it wasn't sickly sweet. It was just too expensive to be average in my opinion. I'm gonna stick to their cakes in the future.

Shaheen S.

Yelp
Good local place for some sweets and treats. They also have a coffee menu. Sometimes their outside patio is open which is really what I love but it's not used much anymore outside of private events it sounds like. Cupcakes are apparently pretty good, but I prefer the bakery items and cookies, etc. They also have dog-friendly treats and their coffee is not bad

La prietalinda S.

Yelp
I placed and order for mini cupcakes and they where delivered in such a crappy condition the frosting was half on the cupcakes it looked like someone just literally threw them in the box so

Dimitra L.

Yelp
I paid 125$ for a birthday cake. The cake wasn't the color I ordered and it was missing pieces from the decoration even though they said it's going to be exactly as it's shown in their website. After communication they said to return the cake and get a refund. My daughter returned the cake exactly as it was. The owner happened to be at the store at the moment. She treated her very unprofessionally denied the refund with the excuse that the employee made a mistake and there isn't a refund policy. They offered a 15$ store credit which made me more upset. NEVER GOING BACK To answer to your response I'm going to say that the only reason I ordered the cake was the macaroons. They had a symbolic meaning to the event. That's why I made sure and asked more than three times if the cake comes with the macaroons or it's an extra decoration for the picture. The employee said it's going to be exactly as I see it. But flowers might be a little different. It's not a miscommunication. It's a your mistake and you want me to pay for it. I don't care about the colour of the flowers. To give me credit for about 1/3 of my purchase ,when I couldn't use the cake, I had to buy another one for the occasion . Also credit to your store which I definitely not coming back after the way to treated me, it's not a solution for me. I would like a full refund in cash, like I paid you. Thank you

Kellen P.

Yelp
They were fast and efficient! They also paid attention to detail. The cake was yummy. The icing was a buttercream and the bread wasn't dry. We ordered this for a work event and it was perfect. When we picked up the cake, the shop was smelled delicious and wasn't too loud.

Keesha F.

Yelp
Tried their cupcakes years ago and hadn't grabbed anything else till recently when I got the Too good to Go app. Loved their lemon and caramel bar! Got their coffee cake and took it to a family gathering and they thoroughly enjoyed it! The ladies inside were nice to me each time I went! Definitely give them a try :)

Melody P.

Yelp
I've come here fairly regularly for the past several years. Love the cupcakes, particularly the spicy mango tres leches which is to die for! Literally the best cupcake I've ever tasted. Today I had the pleasure of being assisted by an employee by the name of Jay. Impeccable customer service on Jay's part! His bright and positive demeanor, which you can tell is just natural, was noticeably refreshing. He would be an asset to any business and truly made the visit great today at Hotcakes Bakes. Thanks again, Jay!

ClaireLove B.

Yelp
one of my regular spots to visit. Just tried a slice of the carrot bread today and thought it was really good. It was moist and had a great flavor. Other faves which I think are also a great value are: the snickerdoodle cookie, caramel bar, and any of the mini pies.

Afi P.

Yelp
This 5 -Star rating is based on the brunch! Service: I've been here four times in the last two years. Each time, the service reps were full of hearty joy. On offer: This place is primarily a dessert shop. I'm not a big sweets person which is why I've only stopped by four times in two years. But the hubs and I went in last Sunday, and while we were waiting for our food, about six people came in to pick up large cake orders so it seems like they do a good bit of custom business. Brunch: Delicious. The hubs got pancakes (added blueberries), scrambled eggs, and bacon. Hubs thought the eggs were sublime and he liked the pancakes. To me, the pancakes were magical. I got a turkey BLT sandwich on a soft bun. It too, was incredible. I note that I asked for a side of mustard. Value: I think everything was reasonably priced for the superb quality and portions. Parking: I opted for street parking in the front of the building. I'm not sure if there's a parking lot in the back. Espresso: I had a cappuccino the first time I visited and I must admit that I did not enjoy it one bit. That makes me sad. I hope their coffee situation has gotten better. If it has, I can see people stopping there for their morning cappuccino and canelé.

Yelp
5 stars all the way. My sweet tooth is serious, and it periodically needs feeding. It also doesn't like the "healthy" tasting half decent sweet with low sugar and low calories. Yes, I like the fatty luxurious treats that would make my tummy go hmmmm hmmm and make me want to stay at the gym for an extra 30 minutes. Hotcakes does that for me. It is difficult to find parking, so be patient. I've tried so many things here, from fudge to cookies, from cake roll slice to turkey pesto croissant, so good. They must put a decent amount of salt in the sweetest treats to balance the flavor, it is so very good! If you are in the area, and looking for something to indulge, highly recommend

J'aime K.

Yelp
Delicious but expensive little bites. Bought some stuff and waited for my friend to arrive. They would not let me use the restrooms. I told them I suffered kidney failure last summer and was told by dr's to go to the bathroom asap. They finally let us use the restroom. I know with the LA Health Dept when you offer dine in seating, you are supposed to have a restroom. They said it was exposed, the pathway to the restroom and no barrier to the kitchen. Well someone dropped the ball on the architecture, did they not? They let me use the bathroom begrudgingly. Oh well.

Yesenia M.

Yelp
MANY MANY MANY MONTHS LATE!!!! BUT A HUGE THANK YOU!!! Our baptism cake was amazing!!!! Super delicious and BEAUTIFUL! Two days later and my family was still asking me if there was any cake leftover! I went back and forth in the email and the person in charge of the orders was very helpful!

Cherise R.

Yelp
this place is absolutely awful had a cake and some cupcakes to the sum of a 160.$ . everyone at the party agreed everything from the cake chocolate peanut to the cupcakes was just awful. I was so disappointed the icing i goof the the texture of their cakes is like hard and dry and have no flavor . I dont know what the people who are reviewing this place are used to but no this is not it .

Anthony A.

Yelp
Good cupcakes. Favorite is the Oreo cupcake with the cheesecake frosting. Little pricey but definitely worth the price

Michael U.

Yelp
Opened in 2005 Hotcakes Bakes remains something of an under-the-radar shop, owner Elfie Weiss having turned in a career in entertainment for the store in Del Ray that has been feeding Angelinos for nearly two decades. Born in France but taking a broad approach to baking, the Almond Croissant showing off good lamination around semi-sweet Paste, Hotcakes Bakes continues the Cupcake "trend" with full-size or minis, Red Velvet moist despite lots of Cocoa while Tres Leches finds added emphasis from Mangoes with Tajin. Also selling a convincing Carrot Cake, plus cookies including thick and chewy Snickerdoodles, consider skipping overbaked Chocolate Chip rounds in favor of $4.25 Shortbread beneath a choice of Lemon Curd or soft Salted Caramel.

Michael H.

Yelp
We came here for the cheesecake cupcakes but left with a box full of assorted cupcakes. The cupcakes were good. The big cupcakes were $5 and small ones were $3.

Sintia P.

Yelp
I've been coming here for years! I've tried all the cupcake flavors and the Tres leches with spicy mango and Chocolate raspberry mousse are my two favorite flavors! When I have a large order I try to place an order in advance, as it's advised you do so at least two days prior. Although, when I forget to do so I usually arrive as soon as the bakery opens. Most of the time I have zero issues purchasing the flavors and quantity needed. I've only had one negative experience here. Back in January I was picking up cupcakes for my birthday. The woman helping me had an attitude. Took zero care when packing up my cupcakes and was upset when I pointed out that she smashed the tops of my cupcakes. It was also the first time the cupcakes were a bit dry. I also purchased a gluten free cake that wasn't great! This was definitely an off day. These cupcakes are always requested for birthday parties so I recently came back! The minis are the perfect size for a kids party. Glad I gave them another chance. The woman who helped me were friendly and helpful! Also the cupcakes were delicious and not dry this time! Street parking only.

Andre B.

Yelp
I am addicted to this place really good cupcakes and coffee. Their cakes look really delicious. Every time I have been here exceptional customer service. Entertaining selection of books. I hope everyone working here get's a raise. Me and my coworkers are fans and we frequently go on trips here to feast on sweets and drown our sours in coffee this is our only way to drink on the job.

Ana F.

Yelp
Yum!! The cake roll is so good. Fluffy and light with fresh fruit. They have great cakes for special occasions for $55. It's expensive but not crazy for a specialty cake. We also tried the lemon bar and chocolate chip cookies. The cookies aren't warm or fresh but still good. Just depends what you love. They also serve coffee tea and wine! Nice indoor seating option. It's a hard to find parking right outside but if you're willing to walk a block it's fine.

Sharon S.

Yelp
We visited the bakery as we are exploring different bakeries to get classroom cupcakes for my daughter's birthday (and hopefully future events/holidays.etc). I initially called the bakery to see their availability for the day (for the taste test) on individual items, and asked for prices. When I got to the bakery, I noticed the prices quoted for 1 dozen/2 dozen cupcakes were different and they told me they made a mistake. (i called back a second time to get a quote for 3 dozen, and the numbers were wrong again!). We picked out a number of small cupcakes to taste and they packaged the cupcakes in a plastic container. When we got home, we noticed that half of the cupcakes had been smooshed on the top by the container. My daughter liked one of the flavors and we thought the cupcakes were cute, so I gave the bakery a call to see if the larger size cupcakes would have the same problem. I explained that while we liked the design and flavor, I had concerns that we would buy 3 dozen cupcakes to have them all arrive to the class smooshed on top. They explained they recently got new cupcake containers, and that the top would only be "slightly smooshed." I expressed that this wasn't really reasonable, as if I am paying for bakery cupcakes, my expectation is that I would be buying undamaged product. They did not seem apologetic or anything, and if anything, a bit annoyed at the request, insisting it would only slightly hit the top of the plastic container. When I said that was not acceptable and asked about other solutions and or other boxes (maybe a large cake box), they said that they could just make the frosting smaller/shorter/less, which I also said was not really what I was looking for as the appeal is the cute design. Finally, they mentioned they had boxes that held six cupcakes but could take out the insert to squash a dozen or so cupcakes in a box. i said that would then have a different problem of them being squashed and hitting each other sideways, not from the top. I asked if they could just fulfill the order using the 6 cupake boxes and was told "we only have a few of those left so aren't really wanting to use them." Ultimately, I probably would not order a larger order from this bakery, and from past reviews it looks like they have trouble with the quality/delivery of larger cupcake orders. I was pretty appalled at the level of customer service the lack of care from a bakery - it felt like they didn't really care that much how their product was displayed/delivered, and ultimately we decided to go with another bakery.

Yelp
The staff is amazing and baked goods are delicious. I've had a couple of pies, a cake, variety of cupcakes. They're my go to for birthdays and other celebrations and have been a saving grace when I was short on time due to a cake issue with another bakery. 10/10

Yelp
I've cakes before. I made an online order the day before and ordered half cheesecake cupcakes and half tres leche cupcakes. I get to the shop and they only have two cheesecakes ones (they looked shitty btw). I don't even care that they didn't have the cupcakes I wanted but those cupcakes are fucking expensive so the least they could have done is called or emailed me to let me know before my pick up time. I had to pick random ones when I got there(there wasn't much selection anyway). Didn't get a discount or anything. I guess they just want to make money. Extremely disappointed.

Yelp
I stumbled upon Hotcakes before celebrating a special occasion with a friend at the Alibi Room next door. I thought it would be perfect to get her half a dozen cupcakes. Although it was around 8 PM, their case was still pretty well stocked, to my great relief. The interior is very cute and even has an area to enjoy wine and coffee. While we were there, my friend bought a salted caramel bar and a few of us shared it--it was essentially a very rich, chewy salted caramel on top of a shortbread cookie crust. Very good in a small portion, but a little bit too sweet and heavy to have in a sitting. I did not get to try any of the cupcakes, but my friend was delighted and enjoyed all of the flavors (I believe I got red velvet, double chocolate, dulce de leche... I can't remember all of them, but a decently varied assortment).

Yelp
So we had just had dinner and ran into this place. They have a bakery, wine and beer area and a patio out back that I was not expecting! It was great! Had a latte and a cup cake so delicious! They are also not just a bakery they serve food too. Service was great we ordered went out back and they brought us our items. A must try place ambiance was so great on the patio.

Yelp
Lately, I've been going through a sweet tooth craze! As we were about to tell the lady which coffee we wanted, another lady from the back came out and overheard us trying to order coffee, and very rude said, "she's new, she doesn't know how to make coffee yet, I do, but there are other people here, you'll just have to wait." Instead of clapping back at this lady, I just kindly said, we don't want the coffee; we'll go elsewhere for coffee. I felt that her tone was not needed, and we were here first, tell the other people to wait and make our coffee. The new lady could've helped the other folks after checking us out. Ugh! Unfortunately, both the cake roll & berry tart were not good. The berry tart tasted old and was super hard. The cake roll tasted funny, wasn't good. Girl bye! It's too late. But yet she made coffee for the people waiting in line behind when we checked out the first time. Even though that mango cupcake was stupid delicious and the shop is super cute, I won't be coming back. That rude lady ruined it for us. That's ok, though; there are plenty of other bakeshops around.

Yelp
I had an amazing carrot cake made for our 1yr anniversary. I wanted it to be special and I shopped around. Hotcakes bakes was the best in response time and letting me know my options for a custom cake. I went with cheesecake frosting which compromised the look of the cake but I didn't care I really wanted it to taste like a carrot cake cupcake abs it did not disappoint. I love their service and and attention to detail. I live in Long Beach but they are worth the drive versus local bakeries near me. You will be happy with anything they make for you. Just be sure of what flavor profile you want and they will guide you towards your best options. If you go against their recommendations it's at your own risk. I'm glad I risked it because we both enjoyed this.

Yelp
The red velvet cake was a hit with my coworkers, so I ordered another for my besties birthday. I absolutely loved the earl grey lavender cupcakes. Everyone loved those. A little on the pricey side, but this isn't your grocery store bakery aisle. You pay the quality and it shows.
