Came across this hotel when I was at the bar two shop floors down. My grandfather needed to use a bathroom urgently and the staff were kind enough to offer us usage of a room upstairs since their common toilet was under maintenance. We are so grateful to the concierge staff Alfred and his coworkers that helped my grandfather up with his wheelchair. They were amazing!!!

Room was VERY small. Odd combination shower and toilet, but it worked. Very good water delivery and lots of hot water. Clean comfortable bed, good WIFI. Not worth the extra money for the balcony as nowhere to sit. But the lady at the desk was very accommodating, ordering taxis etc. Short walk to very vibrant area of Chinese restaurants. Bars too. Overall a pretty good discount hotel at an interesting corner of Singapore.

I love this nostalgic place , it feels I'm time traveling. The room is very simple but it's all you need for a good night sleep. I would suggest not the balcony as it does get loud at night and if you're a light sleeper. Then good luck 🤞. However the room and hotel is excellent location with walking distance to Chinatown and ample of foodies including Maxwell center. Room is small but perfect for me to just use for a few nights.

We booked the 1929 based on our experience from staying there a few years ago. Back then we loved the location, the quirkiness (chairs from VITRA design museum in the rooms) and the great restaurant Amber next door which also served as the breakfast restaurant. Now the only good thing left is the location. The hotel feels completely neglected. The lobby has been reduced to an unwelcoming area with a receptionist sitting in a corner. The “balcony room” was dirty, stains and mold on the walls, mold in the bathroom, floor tiles broken and never replaced, the bathroom fixtures broken. For added security they put the room number on the key card to make easier for anyone finding a lost card to just walk in and clear out your room. Yes, it is not expensive but you don’t even get what you pay for. Always read the reviews and avoid this place!

The hotel is located close to restaurants , hawker places, Chinatown and MRT. The room is bigger than expected. The bed is very nice. AC works well. Internet is fast. There are towels and basic toiletries. No tv and can be a little noisy due to the restaurants nearby.

A friendly *budget* hotel in a super location - friendly staff, clean room and bathroom and very near Maxwell’s for superb eating choices. Also near to MRT stations. Good WiFi. Budget means small but perfectly functional. There is a 7-11 further up the road on the same side as the hotel. We had a front facing room with a tiny balcony. Lovely sense of city bustle and a view of the beautiful Hindu temple and lovely sounds of ritual. There is also bar noise - but it stops promptly at closing and didn’t bother us Tip: the hotel reception is near the yellow table; can also use this to signpost Grab pickups.

So, long story short, i think a lot of reviews are fake and done through SERM services, i add a screenshot of a review where they didn’t even bother to copy/paste a given review correctly. Also, odor is bad, mold, and overall everything looks horrible. I understand this is a budget friendly option, but I don’t know how it was possible to manage a place to have this condition. Pictures online are misleading, so i add my own from a room that we got. Ps: check in is at 3, not at 2pm as it is advertised on agoda.

The hotel has disintegrated since the last I stayed. I should have read the recent reviews before booking it. I felt like staying in a refugee room, the walls are discolored with brown stains and tiles falling apart. An unpleasant scent from the bathroom and very small room. I regretted paying more for a room with balcony, I didn’t even bother to step out.what a pity, a retro remodeled from shophouses being neglected into a dumpy room.
