I booked a last-minute stay at Hotel 24 based on positive reviews and photos, but my experience was overwhelmingly disappointing. While the lobby looked nice and festive, everything went downhill the moment I approached the front desk. No one was there, and when a young woman finally appeared, she made it clear I was an inconvenience. She was short, dismissive, and borderline rude. Even though my reservation included early check-in, I was told with attitude that no rooms were available and that I could “wait in the lobby if I chose.” After an hour, I checked again only to get another curt response.
I eventually went to my car in the parking garage, which was dark, dirty, and smelled terrible. Trash cans were overflowing onto the ground. I called my daughter, who made the reservation, and asked her to cancel. When she called the hotel, the same young woman was rude to her as well before finally admitting there was a room available—but not the one we paid for.
When I went back inside, the attitude continued. After taking my card for incidentals (a $15 charge even if unused), I went to my room and found it in disgusting condition. Sticky substances on the refrigerator and remote, dirty floors with what looked like food crumbs, stained bedding and pillows, and a nasty stain on the side of the bed. The elevator was filthy too. This did not resemble the rooms shown in their photos in any way.
In the morning, I discovered the “included” breakfast actually cost $16.85, it was a very generic buffet the same as you would get from Best Western and parking was an additional $7.85. I was also charged a $50 pet fee for my service dog—even though my daughter had already paid the deposit and service dogs should not incur fees. When I questioned the charges, the front desk staff seemed unsure of what was going on and told me a manager would look into it. I eventually called the next day and was told the pet fee would be refunded, but the entire situation was exhausting.
Overall, this hotel was a complete disappointment—from the rude and unprofessional service to the dirty room and surprise fees. I would not stay here again and cannot recommend it to anyone
UPDATE: My stay was on November 30, and Thanksgiving fell on November 27. While the website stated the property dining would be closed for the holiday, the listing for complimentary breakfast did not specify that the benefit was only available only on Thanksgiving—or that there would be any charges on other days. As of today, December 3, the website still advertises complimentary breakfast. The breakfast offered is comparable to what you’d find at a Best Western or Hilton—actually, those hotels provide more options and better coffee. The website should clearly state that breakfast comes with an additional charge, as the current wording is misleading.
Regarding early check-in, the front desk associate—who was notably rude—clearly acknowledged I was checking in early and acted as though I was inconveniencing her. Overall, Hotel 24 South feels like an outdated, unclean property with poor customer service beneath a superficially appealing lobby. Even the dim, dirty parking garage was unacceptable. Based on my experience, I would not recommend staying here.
