The location is perfect for visiting museums (the Rijksmuseum, the Van Gogh, and the Stedelijk are all a short walk away), the Concertbegouw, and even a small underground supermarket across from the Stedelijk cafe. Good restaurants are also nearby.
The reception staff is friendly, but the room was frustrating: no shelves or drawers to unpack luggage, only a pullout bar that held a few hangers in a standing armoire, so we had to live out of our suitcases for 4 nights. Using the coffeemaker required unplugging a lamp since there weren't adequate outlets for both on the same wall. There are no washcloths, only bath and face towels, and there are no towel bars (only a small rack that holds folded fresh towels; if you hang the smaller towel from the rack if you want to use it later, it hangs down over whatever you've put onto a small tiled area below it, making it hard to get at your toiletries. Otherwise, there's only a narrow shelf over the sink. You can't put things on top of the toilet tank because the flushing mechanisms are built in there. The beds are provided with only one pillow per person, though staff quickly provided more on request.
The breakfast buffet is adequate, but the only fruit offered there wasn't fresh--canned pineapple with a small amount of some other fruit in it. There's a bowl of apples by the reception desk, one floor down.
The rooms lack "Do Not Disturb" signs, and twice we returned to our room immediately after breakfast to find that they were being cleaned. When I said I wanted to use the bathroom, one cleaner insisted she would "only be another 5 minutes;" and told me to use a bathroom 4 floors below (except there wasn't a guest bathroom; a staff member had to unlock the staff one for me). Another insisted she had to keep working (at 10:00 am) because of when she got off work. Finally, we spoke to management so we'd have privacy to brush our teeth and gather our things for the day.
But the location is great, and the street is a pretty residential/small hotel street.
