Abi d'Oru Beach Hotel&Spa (Costa Smeralda, Sardinia) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Sardinia’s Emerald Coast is nothing if not aptly named — this lush and wild stretch of coastline is like nothing on Italy’s mainland. Here a hotel like the Abi d’Oru can lay claim to enough land to contain some 150 rooms and suites, divided among a number of hexagonal pavilions, separated by Mediterranean gardens and paths leading to a white-sand beach. It’s modernist in concept, though classic in style — the hotel dates to the Sixties, and its modular layout affords plenty of privacy for the accommodations." - Tablet Hotels

We stayed at this hotel for a week between September 3 and September 9 and had a fantastic time. The hotel and grounds, including the facilities, are well maintained and in very good condition. The staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful, and the service was excellent throughout. The food is fantastic and leaves nothing to be desired. The beach is great and also suitable for families. The hotel is not adults-only, but the younger guests were not disruptive at any point, and the hotel has an adults-only area for dinner. The hosts at dinner in both restaurants are great – a big shout-out to Debby! On the day of arrival, we were upgraded to a better room category at a very fair price and did not regret the decision. It's important to note that Sardinia is generally a more expensive island. The prices for drinks are high, but the service and quality are truly outstanding and justify the price. We can recommend the hotel especially for visitors who really want to relax, enjoy a lot of time on the beach, and are simply looking for a place to unwind. We'll be back next year!

Amazinig hotel right on a beautiful sandy beach with crystal green waters.|upon arrival the staff were very welcoming and made you feel at home straight away. we had a lovely premium suite with huge balcony terrace overlooking the sea and pool. great service throughout the hotel, food was fabulous in all the restaurants. The pool had a many hydrotherapy jets around the sides, but still very big for those who just want to swim in a beautiful heated freshwater pool. Fabulous terrace bar to start your evening with lovely piano music and singer. Cocktails were amazing. I would definitely recommend this hotel for families, couples or just friends travelling together. There is something for everyone. Can't wait to go back. Just a 25 minute drive from Olbia

We spent a wonderful day at Hotel Abi D'Oru's beach facilities and the experience was absolutely worth it.||The staff's kindness truly stood out—when one of our chairs was taken by another guest, they immediately upgraded us to a large, comfortable cabana without hesitation. This level of customer service and genuine care made all the difference in our day.||The beach itself is exceptional. The sand is the prettiest and softest along the entire stretch of coastline, with minimal seaweed, making it perfect for lounging and swimming. It's clear why this spot commands premium prices—the beach quality is simply outstanding.||The restaurant staff were phenomenal and lovely, providing excellent service with warm, welcoming attitudes that enhanced our entire experience.

This hotel has been a wonderful experience. The hospitality is unmatched. My group arrived very late due to a delayed flight and the hotel was beyond accommodating. Baha at the front desk was so helpful and made our check in process seamless. The rooms, food and beach are really nice.

My partner and I stayed at Abi D’Oru for 10 nights in June, and overall, we found Sardinia to be a stunning destination with truly breathtaking beaches.||The hotel itself was very clean and well-maintained, and the staff were plentiful and generally helpful. However, we did encounter some communication challenges, as many of the staff spoke little to no English, which made certain interactions more difficult than expected.||One of the main downsides to our stay was the atmosphere at the beach and pool areas. Unfortunately, both were extremely noisy and crowded with large families and young children. The pool area was particularly chaotic, and after just a couple of visits, we chose to avoid it altogether due to the number of screaming toddlers and the lack of consideration from some parents. Relaxing at the beach was also difficult, and we often found ourselves resorting to headphones just to read in peace.||Given the premium pricing of this hotel, it would be far better suited as an adults-only resort or, at the very least, should offer clearly designated quiet/adults-only zones across the property - including the beach, pool, and restaurants. On more than one occasion, we asked to be moved further from particularly noisy families on the beach, but were told that only Suite guests had preferential seating until 3pm. We weren’t requesting reserved or upgraded seating, just a quieter spot!||Another point of concern was the pricing. We found the cost of food and drinks to be excessively high: mocktails were €18, smoothies/milkshakes €20, and cocktails ranged from €20 to €30. As we did not opt for half-board, only breakfast was included in our stay. Dining at the hotel’s restaurants came at a minimum of €70 per person (excluding alcohol), which felt steep even for a luxury property.||Upon arrival, a €800 pre-authorisation was taken, and by the end of our stay - after charging only a few drinks per day and two meals, we had accumulated a bill close to €1000.||Thankfully, we had a hire car, which allowed us to explore a number of excellent external restaurants for lunch and dinner. The valet team were particularly helpful in this regard and made our comings and goings seamless.||There were also some disappointing gaps in amenities. We ran out of toiletries like shower gel every few days, and there was no iron in the room - small omissions that felt out of place given the price point of the hotel.||The hotel does offer a complimentary shuttle to and from Porto Rotondo, which is a lovely area for dining. However, the shuttle schedule is quite limited. In the evenings, getting a taxi back to the hotel proved very difficult and expensive - often costing €30–€40 for a trip that lasted just seven minutes.||In summary, while the setting is beautiful and the facilities are generally of high quality, we felt that the hotel did not quite deliver the relaxing, luxurious experience we had hoped for - largely due to the overwhelming presence of loud families and the very high additional costs. With a few adjustments, particularly the introduction of adults-only areas and more thoughtful pricing, this could be a truly exceptional resort.

Hotel was nice and clean, the beach is very beautiful and worth it. However, AC was very hot and we had to beg to get steamer as there is no iron in this hotel due to safety. Paying such big amount per night should provide every room with steamer atleast. I called room service for 3 days and nobody picked up. I would suggest staying in another hotel and coming to the beach by day pass.

We stayed at Abi d’Oru, which means Golden Bee, in Porto Rotondo, Sardinia, arriving on a Sunday and departing the following Saturday—just after moving our daughter into college. What better way to decompress and celebrate my husband’s 51st birthday than with five full days on the magnificent Marinella Beach?|We selected the half-board package and were delighted that we did. The breakfast buffet was everything you’d expect from a five-star boutique hotel: rich, varied, and beautifully presented.|Our room was absolutely lovely and spotless. The bathroom was fantastic, with great water pressure and thoughtful design. There wasn’t a hint of wear and tear anywhere; every corner felt meticulously maintained. The property itself—the pool, the grounds, the groomed gardens, and the expansive views over Marinella Beach—were, quite simply, immaculate.|My husband and I, both Italian-American, had been to mainland Italy before, but this was our first trip to Sardinia and our first time in Italy together. Porto Rotondo, with its charm and position along the Emerald Coast, felt like discovering another world.|We adored the food. Although the hotel has three restaurants, we focused mainly on Mediterraneo and Tzia Maria, both of which were exceptional. The Sardinian dishes, paired with local wine, were unforgettable—so fresh and delicious, offering a delightful contrast to the southern Italian flavors we grew up with. Every meal felt like a celebration.|The service was consistently warm and gracious. The team handled a melting pot of international guests, with English as the unifying language among the locals and visitors. It created a lively and cosmopolitan atmosphere.|The beach, true to its famed reputation, was stunning. Marinella Beach features fine white sand and crystalline turquoise waters that shift through every imaginable shade of blue. The system for assigning loungers and umbrellas was organized and fair, smooth even during peak season. We watched the team manage challenges when some guests were less than gracious, and yet they remained calm and professional. A heartfelt thank you to Nicholas, whose attentiveness made our time on the sand effortless.|Late August still felt like the height of summer, with families and children filling the beach with energy. Yet it was never overwhelming—just vibrant, alive, and thoroughly enjoyable.|One helpful note for travelers: Sardinia is incredibly mountainous, with steep changes in elevation and winding roads full of twists and turns. The drive between the hotel and Porto Cervo was breathtaking but challenging. If you’re prone to motion sickness, taking Dramamine in advance would make the journey much more comfortable.|Finally, every view from the rooms and terraces across the Gulf of Marinella was breathtaking, from sunlit mornings to golden evenings. It was, in every sense, a lovely experience. We left already looking forward to exploring more of Sardinia in the future.
