Decent hotel in great location. Room was clean..gas fireplace, clean pool. Nice breakfast spread included, complimentary wine at 5:00. Water heater needs a little maintenance…we had sporadic availability of hot water.

We were pleasantly surprised at how nice this hotel was. We spent the weekend there for our anniversary and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. This was my wife's first time visiting Monterey and she loved it. The hotel was perfect and the staff were amazing! The only recommendation I have is to get a better warming system for breakfast and to add a waffle station to the choices. Thank you for a fantastic experience.

Great place to stay. Close to downtown, room was larger than expected and very tidy. Remodeled bathroom. Winter Sale made this trip to Monterey a great experience. Staff was very willing to be flexible with reservation change within the 72 hr cancellation timeframe. That made the trip possible. Much appreciated.

Google
Very friendly, clean hotel, updated decor. Room was very comfortable with modern decor and beautiful bathroom with huge shower. The hotel offers a lot of extras such as welcome glass of wine, breakfast buffet, free wifi, self laundromat, swimming pool. It is also nice to have a bistro with full bar on site. Very quiet hotel, highly recommend.

It’s a hidden gem and competitively priced with the Marriott’s and the like - close to the old wharf and the pier restaurants. Parking is tight but manageable. If you arrive after 10 - you will not find any parking. Rooms are spacious. Our AC was unplugged and had to spend 10 mins figuring out how to make it work - but worked in the end. front desk had no idea how to. 5/5 stars for the breakfast- very good options and definitely much tastier than the chain hotels. You will love the breakfast!

Google
Hotel with credibility which is rare to find these days. I accidentally made 3 bookings and they helped me to refund the other 2 room bookings with Expedia. Plus they have great rate just on their website! The room is clean and has a fire place and with character with good access to all the scenery spots! Great value for what you get, breakfast, clean and characteristic room, even a glass of wine at night! HIGHLY RECOMMEND

Google
Great hotel in a great location for downtown Monterey. Super close to Monterey's best playground and the MY Museum. We had an awesome stay with our two kids (5 and 3 years old). Great breakfast for kids and adults, great rooms for a family of 4, and we walked to dinner every night. It might not be on the beach but this hotel is as good as it gets otherwise.

Pleasantly surprised by this place. Rooms and amenities were amazing. Stayed in the king suite w fireplace. Super comfy. Great price and location. Best continental breakfast I’ve ever had. Look no further!

Yelp
Overall a good hotel esp for the price, but can be noisy depending on your room. I was pleasantly surprised to find a room at the price point I did and this was walking distance from the main Alvarado street, about 15 min walk to the pier as well. The front desk and overall every staff was extremely friendly and upon checkin they mentioned our deluxe room got upgraded to one with a fireplace which was perfect as we were visiting in winter. Checkout also wasn't until noon which I was surprised by as most places make you check out much earlier. However the issue we had was the noise. We were in the first floor and I wish I had requested anything but that, as the guests upstairs were loud and had people coming in and out until past midnight. You can hear the knocking on the door, the slamming of doors, the running up and down stairs, stomping, and even their actual convos when they're loud enough. I had to take sleeping pills the second night because I couldn't sleep with all the noise until late the first. Other than the lowsy noise infrastructure and loud upstairs guests, everything was fine. There are daily complimentary wine per guests and breakfast buffet which is baked into your fees as amenities ($20pp). Housekeeping is upon request. Probably the most bang for your buck in the area and I would stay again but request a room not on first in the future.

Yelp
A very nice hotel, great amenities, great staff & very comfortable rooms. I'll stay here again.

Yelp
Amazing hospitality and Excellent customer service by the Manager Jennifer and the Bar tender Ernie. This hotel is very clean and a mile from cannery row.perfect location 2 miles from cannery row A little hotel gem in the heart of monterey. it is our first time here in Hotel Abrego and We're so impressed with it's cleanliness and excellent service received from the staff. Check in was a breeze and We Were welcomed by the Manager named Jennifer and informed us with all the hotel's amenities to enjoy during our stay. We have complimentary glass of wine as well. The rooms we stayed is super clean with a beautiful patio overlooking the pool and hot tub area and we got the premier room with fire place so it feels so cozy even more. The Hotel have their own mini bar and resto named BISTRO ABREGO that offer small plates bites, pasta, steak, skewers, wines, beers and more. The Bartender & Server named ERNIE was amazing! He has a 100% customer service traits,as He is knowledgeable about the wines, menu/food selections plus He gives you service with a smile. We really enjoyed our stay here in Hotel Abrego and We will definitely go back again.

Yelp
This hotel is conveniently located close enough to the Marina but reasonably away from the airport (no airflight noise). I was able to visit the sites on my list. The evening staff was very welcoming. Check in was a breeze. The room was very clean and I was so pleased with the bathroom. It is super modern and oh-so spacious. I took advantage of the tub on my last day for a bath. I appreciated the breakfast that was provided. Plenty of variety for me (food and tea wise) and my fav were the chia oatmeal cups. There is a restaurant onsite for dinner and the dining area is very welcoming. I was able to use the fitness and business center rooms. Both were adequate. Unfortunately, I couldn't soak in the swimming pool as weather wasn't up to par.

Yelp
Last minute booking. On our way to Monterey for a quick getaway didn't expect to stay a night but we packed light just incase we were staying over night. With two littles and our ETA was almost 4pm we decided to just stay the night. While still on the road I made a quick search and found this Hotel to be the closest thing we were looking for amenities wise. It wasn't cheap but it was definitely a cheaper option compared to others around for a last minute booking and it looked nice with good reviews. I called the front desk after booking to confirm they received our reservations. He was nice but spoke so fast, low and he seems like he was in a hurry. I booked directly on their website (it was cheaper than book on a 3rd party site). One room Deluxe 2 queen bed. Free parking, free breakfast, WiFi, a/c, Tv, free breakfast, Noon check out. They also had other nice amenities such as gym, pool/hot tub, guest laundry, a bistro and also a glass of wine during their happy hour (included with the amenity fee). The hotel room was fairly clean, few dirty stains on the wall, carpet could use a shampoo and the a/c could use alittle dusting. The bed were not the most comfortable is was springy and lopsided. The pillows were too soft I need to stack 2 on top to get some kind of support. There was no microwave. The breakfast was decent. Love that this hotel really close the Aquarium/ Pier. Overall a solid 3.5. Would stay again if we're in the area and the price is right.

Yelp
Friendly customer service, clean and comfortable rooms and a great complimentary breakfast and evening wine service made my stay at Hotel Abrego stand out from other hotels in the area. I booked a two queen room for one night. We were promptly greeted upon arrival and informed about all amenities, as well as the breakfast and nightly wine that is offered in the lounge. Only the main building has an elevator. We were placed in another building so we did have to walk up stairs to our 2nd floor room. It wasn't a big deal to us but if you have a lot of luggage, maybe try to request a room in the main building. The rooms themselves are very clean and comfortable. There was a smaller tv and a fireplace. The fireplace was a little tricky to work and we didn't quite figure it out during our stay. The bathroom was quite spacious and there was also another sink located outside the bathroom for use as well. The property does have a pool and hot tub but the hot tub was out of service when we were there. Pool towels were available for use. I will say the breakfast was a great spread with breakfast sandwiches, eggs, potatoes, biscuits and gravy, bagels, waffles, French toast, oatmeal and chia seed pudding. There is also a lounge area where you can purchase dinner and a full bar. Overall I was impressed with this property and I would for sure return.

Yelp
We loved this hotel as we stayed in their king room with the fireplace. We stayed in one of the rooms that was inside the hotel as there are rooms outside of the main hotel. The room had plenty of space and we had our own private balcony which was nice. The sofa was nice which also had a bed but no sheets. It was nice that the TV could be rotated to where ever you are. Breakfast was one of the best in my opinion where they had different options such as huevos rancheros, burritos, eggs, potatoes, overnight oats, yogurt parfaits, bagels, and fresh juices. They have a large dining room which is nice. They also offer wine happy hour. We did not dine in their restaurant but wish we would have. They also have plenty of parking and what is nice is that they charge a fee but it includes free parking and breakfast. They note it on their website. The reason I did not give them 5 stars is because when we stayed it was raining and due to it the hotel was facing plumbing issues which did not let you shower, use the bathroom, or wash your hands.

Linda V.

Yelp
We had a great stay at Hotel Abrego, our upgraded king with fireplace was beautiful. The room even included a balcony with sitting area. The bathroom had upgraded fixtures and amenities. They also include a free glass of wine at 5 PM in their full bar bistro. They offer a complimentary breakfast buffet. The have a great free WiFi, self laundry and offer one day dry cleaning if you need. It is a vey welcoming hotel!

Yelp
Booked this stay using points! Took the kids on a short trip with one night here. Cute place right in Monterey. Super close to everything (aquarium, Dennis the Menace Park). Check in is later (4pm) but check out is noon and I like that. Grabbed my complimentary wine at happy hour before heading to the room. Decided for convenience to just eat at the hotel restaurant for dinner. Kids meals are basic. I had the teriyaki skewers and they were delicious. Hubs had the ribs and those were good too. We checked out the spa and pool. Only complaint here is that the pool towels are extremely small!! Smaller than the bathroom towels! Went back to the restaurant for dessert. Really wanted the chocolate cake but they were out. Chef special was turtle cheesecake and it was amazing. So was the chocolate martini. The bartender/restaurant server was awesome. Didn't catch his name but he was so nice. Breakfast was nice. I was surprised how many breakfast burritos they made (and how many were still there close to end time! So much waste). Had eggs, potatoes, cereal, bagels/toast, an assortment of juices, yogurt, and oatmeal.

Yelp
What a lovely stay at Hotel Abrego. My husband and I went on a whim and decided to book a room at this hotel last minute. It was a great decision and I'm glad we had a great trip. The breakfast was delicious. I wish they replenished the food at the peak time of 9am because there wasn't much food at that time. Perhaps they were backed up, because someone came and stocked up the next batch of food around 9:45am. However, by that time, I was pretty much done with my meal. One thing to note is that the walls are thin and you can hear people in the hallways as well as the guests next door. I suggest bringing your earplugs. Overall, it was a pleasant experience. I thought the property was pretty. The pool was huge, the hot tub had strong jets, and the pool furniture was super cute. I recommend this spot and would stay here again. The location is walking distance to a lot of restaurants and bars. Book your stay at Hotel Abrego.

Yelp
This is a charming boutique hotel on the Monterey Bay. The front desk staff are fabulous especially Daniel. He is quite professional and accommodating, Haley is also super friendly and and professional. They do charge a nightly amenities fee which covers the nightly glass of wine and the hot breakfast- so those things are not necessarily " included" in the nightly room rate (as positioned) but it is a nominal fee and worth it over all. Would definitely recommend this boutique spot to anyone traveling on our CA Coast, and looking for something other than a large chain hotel.

Yelp
Beautiful and clean hotel Great customer service Delicious fresh breakfast Will be back!

Yelp
I have fallen in love with Hotel Abrego. I do not think I've ever had such superb service and great amenities at a hotel with such reasonable rates. We stayed here for three nights when on vacation in Monterey. We picked it because a friend recommended it and because of the great central location. Here's a list of all the things that wowed me: - Reasonable rates. - Gorgeous lobby. - Complementary hot breakfast with lots of good options. Tasty and filling. - Complimentary glass of wine at happy hour in the hotel bar. - Great heated pool and hot tub. Really pretty at night with all the twinkly lights! - Nice fitness center. Small but efficient. - Comfy room, clean, and well appointed. The shampoo, conditioner, and body wash all smelled really good. - Easy, free parking. - Excellent location. Close to everything. Close to downtown and to Monterey Bay. There was a strip mall with a Thai restaurant, a Chinese restaurant, and a pizza place right across the street. Easy cheap eats. - Superb customer service. The front desk staff, the bartender, the breakfast attendants: all of them provided service with a smile. I would have to say that the number one selling feature was the customer service. The employees here were just fantastic. So nice. So hard-working. They really impressed me. This is now my go-to place for next time I visit Monterey.

Yelp
Unauthorized Charges and Terrible Service I booked a room at Hotel Abrego via hotels.com for a few days in early April and ended up needing to cancel my trip. I cancelled my reservation a few days prior to the cancellation deadline. This hotel went ahead and charged my credit card (twice!) for the entire stay without my authorization! When I discovered the unauthorized charge on my bank statement, I contacted hotels.com / my credit card company and this hotel immediately. Hotels.com and my credit card company suggested I speak with the hotel so I did. Let me tell you, getting ahold of someone who could actually help was a whole ordeal in itself with this hotel.. Finally, after multiple calls and waiting for a few days, they admitted their mistake. It took days of back-and-forth communication to get my money back, and frankly, the whole experience left a very sour taste in my mouth. Not only did they violate my trust by charging my card without permission, but their customer service was absolutely abysmal. In the end they didn't even give all my money back!

Yelp
Abrego is our new go-to hotel for Monterey! Very reasonably priced compared to some of the other hotels in the area. You get a lot of value for what you pay here! Rooms aren't the largest but very comfortable. Ours had a fire place and balcony! Room had a shower with good water pressure and hot water, so no complaints. I usually cringe at resort fees, but for $20 daily here it includes a complimentary breakfast, parking, and a glass of wine at their daily happy hour. The daily breakfast exceeded my expectations! They always had eggs, potatoes, and another hot dish (like breakfast burritos, bagel sandwich, pancakes, etc.). Full assortment of yogurt, oatmeal, toast, fruit, juices/milk/coffee, etc. Being on vacation, it was nice to just walk down to their lobby and enjoy a hot filling meal to get the day started! With the Abrego, parking lot is steps away from your room and for most rooms...you an actually see your car from your room's balcony! Parking is usually an issue with Monterey hotels...you're either parking in off-site garages or paying $40-$50 daily fees for valet parking (on top of resort fees). It's about a 5-10 minute walk to get to the downtown area, and 20-30 minutes to the aquarium! You aren't in a central location and next to the water like some of the more pricey hotels, but given the short walk, it's not bad at all. Overall, very impressed and enjoyed our stay at the Abrego...we definiteley will be here again the next time we visit Monterey!

Leah A.

Yelp
Very disappointed in front desk services. They say they have a military discount but will not apply it even after showing our military id. They say we should have included in during booking process but there was no option for it on their website. We did not book through booking.com or another third party site. Seems extremely unfair. Rooms feel dated as well. Wish we stayed in a different place now.

David A.

Yelp
We just returned from a three night stay at Hotel Abrego. ( we have stayed here many times over the years) Nice hotel, convenient location, competitive rates but what makes this place well worth patronizing is the people that work here. All hard working, dedicated, courteous and always asking "how is everything, is there anything we can do for you"? This property/the grounds are immaculate with a nice little gym, pool and good full breakfast. This last visit the gentleman that is the GM was at the front desk at check in and could not have been more helpful, inviting, etc. We saw him frequently during our 3 day stay and we observed just how good he was with all the guests. ( I do not know his name) A young woman at the desk by the name of Haley was very sweet, helpful and enthusiastic with BIG warm smile. ( it was her first day on the job) Stay away from the mobs, stay here. :)

Yelp
Excellent value in Monterey. I don't know if weekends are more expensive but my weekday stays are very affordable. Breakfast is ok. Location in downtown Monterey is excellent and I like that it's far from the tourist areas like Cannery Row. Furnishings are very nice, service is efficient. Maybe the only thing is if you arrive late parking is a challenge.

Sum L.

Yelp
2.5 stars - Our room card keys were having issues all stay until it finally stopped working. Me my wife and a young toddler were stuck outside in the cold for 30+ min until the issue was fixed. Hotel only offered to waive the amenities fee ($40) since they claimed our booking was thru Expedia - House keeping is only upon request - Our building had no elevator so we had to drag our luggage up 3 flight of stairs - Pool often has sand at the bottom, dry rot and loose nails commonly found along wooden trim in many places - Best part was the breakfast which was as advertised - I could have overlooked most of this but the hotel staff and front desk were just not very friendly and welcoming at all

Mesheena A.

Yelp
We enjoyed our stay here. If anything was needed they were right on top of getting it to us. The breakfast is amazing! Heated pool. Gym could use some weights but did it's job while I was there! The curtais helped block out light completely! All in all everything was great!

Teo S.

Yelp
Wow, for the price it smelled dusty and dirty. They need to clean the ir unit in the room. Like like it's never been cleaned out. Disappointed...

Beverly L.

Yelp
My husband and I were happy with our visit and would recommend this hotel. Here is our evaluation: Pluses: Location is close to a main street (but not noisy) and is a short drive to Old Fisherman's Wharf. Parking lot. Front desk staff were friendly and efficient. (At checkout we were told that return guests can get a discount.) Room was clean and comfortable, including TV, A/C, automatic "fireplace," fridge, & Keurig machine. Decor OK. Complimentary breakfast (burritos were good); evening beverages @ 5 pm. Minuses: Price was "reasonable" for a popular tourist spot in July, but not cheap: $730 for 2 people/2 nights. This covered ALL FEES, including $20/day amenities fee and 12 % hotel tax. (We checked prices on their website and then called. The price quoted by phone was a bit higher than the website price, but we were given the latter when mentioned.) Room was smallish: nice but no frills. Front window was not locked when we arrived; one of soap containers in shower was nearly empty. Coffee area had exactly four pods: 2 with caffeine and 2 without, but there was no problem getting more. One of our key cards didn't work later, but this was fixed promptly at the front desk.

Kimberlee M.

Yelp
Really annoyed that on top of a high price to be here, this place has the nerve to charge another $20 PER DAY for all the amenities they advertise to justify the price! Junk fee nonsense to get listed in search options as a lower price. Great location and nice place BUT I can't get over that stupid add-on. I don't want to come back as long as they keep that.

Erik F.

Yelp
Solid clean and quiet hotel in Monterey. Did the job for an overnight with my wife & our toddler. Great location. Will be back if we're in Monterey and need a place to stay

Susan C.

Yelp
Liked; Proximity to the wharf and surrounding restaurants is great! 8 minute walk to the wharf and close to many many restaurants. Plenty of parking. Loads of towels in the bathroom. Very very clean bathroom (you could smell that it was just cleaned too). TV was good, a safe is provided in the closet, and there was a coffee machine with all the amenities. There is a descent breakfast in the dining area. Get there early as stuff goes quickly. Disliked; The walls are super thin and you can hear your neighbors above and next to you. I usually ask for a top floor just for this reason but neglected to ask so I got a room on the ground floor and was kept awake by the heavy footed and all night carrying on of neighbor above. Also, the air cooler (not a regular a/c) in the room was so noisy AND it was right next to the bed, that it made it very hard to ignore and sleep next to. At one point water was gurgling inside of it and it went out with a bang that I looked to see if it was going to ignite or if a fuse had blown. The 'Happy Hour' as advertised doesn't exist even though there is a bar in the hotel lounge area. The rooms are very dated and there was an extra sink in the general area of my room next to the closet. I don't even know why but it also never got hot water so....what's the point of it???? There's a functioning sink in the bathroom but the sink is super shallow and the extra long faucet makes it difficult to wash your hands much along anything else...so I used the extra sink by the closet to brush teeth and wash my face....in cold water. Bizarre!! Management/Ownership need to bring the rooms up to date and perhaps up to code? I'll likely look elsewhere to stay next time because there isn't enough compelling amenities to bring me back. Price was reasonable because I stayed a Sunday & Monday nite but the rates on weekends is far too expensive for what you get there. It was full in the parking lot so I think they still got a lot of business.

Melissa W.

Yelp
We truly enjoyed our stay at Hotel Abrego! Benefits include: - Nice staff at reception - Great location (convenient to Monterey, Carmel by the sea, Pacific Grove) - Spacious room - Fireplace in the room! (perfect for us as temps were starting to drop) - Firm bed (very hard to find at hotels!) - Complimentary parking - Pool and hot tub - Fitness room (albeit small) We are so happy with Hotel Abrego. The only "con" was that the hair dryer was old and weak, so you might want to bring your own. Don't hesitate to stay here.

Camie K.

Yelp
This is a lovely hotel near downtown Monterey. My husband and I booked a last minute stay there, and while expensive it was still cheaper than most of nearby hotels (and certainly cheaper than the ones in Carmel). Upon checking in we were given our wine tickets included in the $20 amenity fee. We dropped our items off and headed straight to the bar; driving down on a Friday before long weekend is no fun, and we were eager to decompress from the week. Our bartender Kathleen greeted with us with such warmth I wanted to stay and chat with her forever. We were given a choice between Sauvignon blanc vs Cabernet/Syrah blend; we opted for the latter. She gave us each a very generous pour, almost filled our glasses to the rim. We sat out in the outdoor area for a bit and took our glasses up to our room so we could get ready for our evening out. The next morning we got to check out their free breakfast spread (included in the $20 amenity fee). There were breakfast burritos (veggie vs sausage), steel cut oatmeal, yogurt parfait, cereal, juice, and some pastries. Pretty solid and a good variety. We grabbed our quick bites and left for a nice stroll in old downtown Monterey. Overall the hotel exceeded our expectations! The room was spacious and we slept quite well through the night. There were even clean robes inside the closet (I could never turn down a warm clean bathrobe). Albeit the walls were a bit thin but luckily no major noise issues; even my light sleeper husband slept through without waking up. Location is also great, within walking distance to lots of cute cafes and restaurants in downtown. I would definitely return and check out their rental bikes ($30 for 8 hrs) next time.

Stephanie T.

Yelp
Been staying here many years, but starting to price us out from under $200/night to sometimes over $400/night. The staff are polite, the food is really good in their restaurant. The fireplace in the room seems turned down, to a very tiny flame. Watched TV in the room and the signal kept going out every few minutes. The bedding is great, but this time the sheets were not changed before we got there and there was a large stain on fitted sheet. Had to call for service twice, then finally asked in person for it to be changed. The floor above us had constant stomping traffic (maybe staff supply room?) and kept waking me up. Otherwise, room is clean. The amenity fee has gone up, but it now includes one glass of wine and each morning a much better than average breakfast is included. It's good if you find a good rate, I would still recommend.

None Y.

Yelp
We needed a last minute hotel, and were pleasantly surprised with how clean, friendly, and accommodating Hotel Abrego was! The front desk staff was very kind & attentive. We needed a microwave and they immediately brought one to our room for no extra charge. The pool was clean & stocked with towels. The breakfast was very delicious & hot. We will be back soon!

Eri K.

Yelp
We booked our stay in Monterey during our mini vacation on the way to the bay area as I have never stopped over in this area before. Location: close enough to downtown Monterey and all of the cute shops so it's convenient but a little far enough that you have to drive, which is good since there's not many tourists or pedestrians Parking: free in their lot, but spaces are small Service: The front office staff were nice and friendly. They have complimentary water near their small restaurant and coffee in the mornings in the lobby. Room: Small, but OK for what we needed, which was just a place to sleep while exploring around town. Walls are also pretty thin so I could hear the neighbors talking. What knocked off a couple of stars despite my good review so far was that I had thought I lost a piece of jewelry in the room during the middle of the night and thought that it fell on the floor so I was looking all over the floor and noticed that there was 1) rubber bands on the floor that were obviously not ours and 2) there was a green stuffed animal of the oogie boogie monster from Disneyland that was underneath the bed, which is DEFINITELY not ours so this goes to show you that they either do not clean the carpet or do not thoroughly clean the rooms, or both. That was really disappointing to see that..

Miriam P.

Yelp
The hotel was really clean and close to the aquarium we wanted to visit. We were able to walk to get food so location is convenient. Front desk was nice and even gave us a run down of things to do in the area! Parking was also nice right in front of our door. The fire was also a big plus on the rainy night we stayed.

Ned L.

Yelp
This hotel is worth staying in. Good location. Can walk to the water. Decent restaurants right next door. We came New Year's Day so staff wasn't the happiest to be here. Check in wasn't till 4:40 even though we were here by 3. The room we had was nice. Bed comfortable. Breakfast in the morning was an added benefit. Everything in life is rated and dollar for dollar this is a good purchase

Brad M.

Yelp
Room was nice and clean The breakfast that was provided was eggs hash browns French toast and cereal rolls etc Also breakfast sandwich The dinner area had a nice fireplace Patio area was available, but was not used because it was raining they also had a nice workout room and pool, but I did not use that

Jennie C.

Yelp
I got a great deal on a room here from a travel app. It is a wonderful hotel!! I would say that even if I didn't get the discount. Friendly, helpful staff, everything is clean and nice. Lots of safe parking, perfect on a road trip. I'm sure other reviews have mentioned the complimentary glass of wine--excellent idea. My room was so nice! I wasn't expecting it to be (again, the good price) the bathroom was gorgeous, with big spa vibes and an amazing shower. White bath robes in the closet! A big window that OPENS! And a fireplace. Incredible. The bed was great too. In the morning....there is a complimentary breakfast. It appears to be a solid B/B+ at first glance: nice looking pastries and toast, fruit, oatmeal, yogurt, etc. Then you get to the CHIA PUDDING !!! And hot items: scrambled eggs, potatoes, then a totally unexpected treat: half an everything bagel topped with a fried egg, bacon, and sautéed spinach and mushrooms Never in my lifetime of hotel stays have i seen luxurious treats like this on the free breakfast menu. Maybe that's standard in Monterey but I was impressed. Great place! I'll definitely be back!

ADeara B.

Yelp
This is my hotel of choice whenever I visit this area, so when you come be sure to care for it! The staff is super nice and clearly love there jobs and the establishment. My home away from home. Patio room. Great spa like bathroom. Decorative nicely. Well maintained. Quiet. Comfortable beds. Great rest. Clean clean clean!

Julie S.

Yelp
This hotel was not clean. I found multiple bugs and spiders and spider webs in my room. Including a spider in my bed when I turned back the sheets . There was an inch of dust on the AC unit. We will never stay there again.

Frederick J.

Yelp
Hotel Abrego is really a converted motel. Came here for one night on a Saturday. For the rate paid complimentary breakfast and parking are included. Hotel sits a comfortable 10 min walk to the Main Street restaurants on Alvadaro St. The room itself certainly dated itself to somewhere in the 90's. The bed was comfortable and the room boasts a fireplace and a noisy air conditioning unit. When they did the convert on this place - certainly the must have kept the old tv's -,see picture of our remote plus battery cover which kept falling off - see the wear on the buttons - I wish I had a plastic bag to cover this thing - god knows what I picked up touching its buttons - completely disgusting ! what you expect for $300 !! Right ? - the ceiling of the room had some 'suspect' holes which we had to cover with toilet tissue - god knows why maintenance has not fixed these ! - for the added motel experience - you can hear your neighbors from side and above. Breakfast Sunday finishes at 10am - way early for a Sunday - but don't worry you are missing nothing - porridge is a watery mess - scrambled eggs and browned potatoes look like they come from a frozen bag and what pastries are around could likely last 10 years without deterioration - the only saving grace here was some real fruit - overall very very disappointing - for mgmt to serve this junk at a $300 'hotel' is unbelievable ! We won't be back.

Yelp
We stay in room 1311. Room was clean and nice. The $20 resort fee covers parking, one free wine glass during happy hour at the bar per person and morning breakfast buffet, and I think gym. That's consider pretty reasonable since everything is so expensive now. The only two complaints. There is no ventilation in the bathroom, and wifi is HORRIBLE. Couldn't do any work remotely. Unfortunately, we didn't get a chance to try the breakfast but we will make an attempt next time Will stay here again, only on short trips

Yelp
Do not stay at this racist establishment if you are a person of color. My elderly father arrived after a full day drive to find that he had been placed at an inaccessible room adjacent to the stairs. When he requested a different room, he was rudely dismissed and told the hotel was sold out and he could leave. He became upset, expressed this, and the POLICE were called to escort him off the property. I wasn't inclined to believe that this was an accurate description until I called to clarity and was spoken to and then hung up on by the manager Jennifer. Talking about the action was justified because they will be refunded, so it's fine for my elderly parents to be abandoned with no where to stay. And when I ask her why it is appropriate that they had no where to go she starts over talking me. Girl, bye. I now believe every word that he claims. At best, this place just has horrible and inexperienced staff. At worst, this place is abjectly disrespect and it appears to be racially motivated. Regardless, if you're a POC, stay away from this place because they do not care about your safety or well being and will call the police on you after they put you in a disrespected position. Avoid at all costs.

Yelp
This was a great find in Monterey. It is in a great location within walking distance to downtown and Fisherman's Wharf. The staff are very friendly, helpful, and professional. Most of the hotels charge a high price for parking or you have to park in a parking garage. For a reasonable price of a $20/night resort fee, you receive parking, access to a heated pool, hot tub, fitness room, Wifi, a delicious hot breakfast buffet, and a complimentary glass of wine during happy hour. The room decor is a little dated but the room was spacious and comfortable. We stayed in a deluxe room with two queen beds and a fireplace. An added bonus for me was walking to the Trader Joe's located within a five minute walk.

Yelp
Really comfortable hotel with excellent customer service! The 3 staff members we interacted with were friendly and helpful. Ernie was so fun at the free wine happy hour. They even allowed us to check into our room 4hrs early!

Yelp
This is a decent middle of the road hotel. Ended up coming here since we could not find a place that we liked on Airbnb or VRBO and the other hotels we liked were full. Surprising that so many people are traveling again despite the pandemic. The staff was friendly and the room was clean and spacious. Good location and walking distance to a lot of restaurants.

Yelp
Our first time staying at Hotel Abrego. Everything was great! We enjoyed our stay. Breakfast was great, and the Bar Bistro food was delicious!! We definitely go back just to eat there. The fish and chips. Ernie was awesome! Definitely will be back.

Yelp
Great pricing for the rooms and has a great pool!!! Whenever I need a quick getaway, this place is the first place I Look. Very nice staff and very nice look of the overall building. In a nice area right near downtown monterey and the Del Monte Shopping Center (mall).

Yelp
We really enjoyed our overnight stay here. Friendly staff. Plenty of good parking in their parking lot within view of the room. Very clean, large bathroom with soft towels. More like someone's nice house than a chain hotel. Quiet at night. Just up the street from a Trader Joe's, Peet's coffee and Chipotle. Lots of good places to eat within a short drive. Don't miss their breakfast with two kinds of burritos, hash brown potatoes, yogurt parfaits, real fruit juice, real eggs. Not your typical "continental breakfast." Very much worth the time it takes to stroll across the parking lot.

Yelp
This is a great little spot close to everything downtown Monterey. Beds were comfortable, the free breakfast was decent, and the amenities were a nice touch. The reason I am knocking a star off is because there is an underlying smell to this place. I cannot put my finger on it is almost like dust meets mold. I did not smell it while in the rooms but, in the common areas, it was noticable. Regardless, I would recommend this place to anyone. It shouldn't break the bank like other Monterey hotels and, for the price, you are not going to find a nicer place to stay in Monterey. Other places look like they haven't been touched since the 70s and have a prison-esque feel to them. Not this place. Renovations and upkeep are obvious in this place.

Yelp
The staff here was so rude. The Bartender Ernie completely ruined my stay. I was going to book my mom here for a week. Forget about it now. I actively talk people out of staying at this property when asked about the hotels in the area. I tell them you won't get what you paid for at the Hotel Abrego. The breakfast was not only mediocre for the price, but the hot food was not even close to temperature, which is a major health code violation. I have already reported this establishment to the Monterey co. Health dept.. Hot held food must maintain an internal temperature of 135 degrees.

Yelp
Stayed here before and enjoyed it but they make it difficult to come back. Don't try making any special accommodations because they won't honor it. Tried booking a room that was available only for them to tell me it was sold out and couldn't be booked. Confusing and infuriating. The manager Jennifer called me back but offered no resolution to my request and couldn't wait to get off the phone with me

Yelp
I had a 2 week stay here while repairs were being made at my house. The hotel staff, and in particular the manager Karen, made sure I had everything I needed at check in.The room was very clean, and had ac,fridge, fireplace, and they even brought in a microwave. The bed was comfortable. The continental breakfast was good, and I would have gladly payed for their brioche breakfast sandwiches. There was always staff inside and on the grounds so it's a very safe hotel as well. 5 stars. Thank you Kathy!
