Hotel Aiguaclara, Begur, Catalonia, Spain - Explore & Book

"'All you need is love / love is all you need' reads the banner in the hall, and it's obvious that lots of love and attention have been poured into this hotel. When Joan and Clara moved here from Barcelona with their family 10 years ago, they didn't employ legions of interior designers and stylists - they put their individual sense of style to work in creating something quite unique. From the mismatched colourful retro furniture in the bistro-style restaurant to the fairy lights and bright green hanging egg chair in the garden, this place has boho chic by the bucket load. Originally built by a merchant who returned to Begur from Cuba in the 19th century, history hasn't been papered over: bright tiles cover the hall floor, the ceilings are gloriously high, and the large doors on each level display prints of 19th-century Begur. This is a great base for exploring Catalonia. Just 5km away down a winding road bisecting pine-covered hills you'll find several beaches with bars and gin-clear water; pretty Girona is a 50-minute drive away, and some of the region's loveliest restaurants are an easy stroll from your front door. Highs Begur itself, a pretty medieval town perched high on a hilltop with winding, cobbled streets Great prices, especially because the bedrooms are all huge, with cool, quirky details; some have outdoor space, too The décor: you won't find it anywhere else, though there's a flea market shop on site so you can buy bits to imitate the style back home The atmosphere: young, friendly, relaxed and cool Great for families, with spacious rooms and communal areas, and lots of beach toys and beach towels to borrow Lows Driving in Begur isn't fun - the narrow streets and one-way system are stressful No pool, but there are fantastic beaches a short drive away There's no lift The nearby church bells are loud We don't recommend the Junior Double, which is downstairs and prone to noise" - Laura Dixon

"This property occupies a colonial - style house dating back to 1866. Small lounge, patio and charming guestrooms, each with their own personalised decor. The restaurant, offering a traditional à la carte menu, is divided into two sections with a chill - out area for tapas, and a simply furnished main dining room." - Tablet Hotels

The hotel is located in the heart of Begur and housed in a beautiful building. You can also reserve a parking spot for €15/day. The parking lot is on a nearby street, with access via a private key. The owner of the hotel is very kind and attentive, and everyone we met spoke excellent English and was very polite. But the biggest highlight for us was the breakfast—truly outstanding! The service was impressively attentive; for example, if a croissant was missing, it was immediately replaced. I travel across Europe quite often, and this was the first time I experienced such a responsive and well-managed breakfast service.

A wonderful stay in Begur with attentive staff and beautifully designed, comfortable rooms. I’d recommend this to anyone who loves architecture. Lucas and Susanna were incredibly helpful, guiding us to the many beaches and restaurants in the area. It’s the perfect choice for a relaxing getaway. And the breakfast was amazing!

A most perfect hotel to explore Costa Brava. Susanna and Lucas were so helpful with suggestions for what to explore and great restaurants to try in the area. The rooms were perfect with such Spanish coastal charm and were very quiet. Every morning, we woke up feeling so well-rested and ready for our next adventure. The breakfast buffet is quality and filling. It felt luxury for a great price.

I cannot recommend the aiguaclara enough! This hotel was right next to the center of Begur; a perfect location for walking to food, shopping and sightseeing. All of the staff were incredibly nice, both the hotel and accompanying restaurant (Clara). Every room is unique, roomy, and so comfortable. The hotel offers an honesty bar with any drinks you need and small snacks. Their community space is very chic and a great place to spend your extra time. The hotel breakfast service was amazing - great ambiance, offerings and service. HIGHLY recommend eating at the Clara for lunch or dinner - everything we had was delicious.

We stayed here for 3 nights and it was the perfect place in the perfect town. It was a holiday weekend unbeknownst to us. The hotel is just a street outside the main walking areas of the old city which I think was the perfect location. One step and we were in the walking neighborhood but driving and the parking were perfect. We had a lot of luggage based on climbing in Europe and we liked having the option to drive right to our hotel. Our room was spacious and very clean. I was in love with the decor. It was sophisticated and creative. Which I appreciated the eclectic influence of Cuba on this particular hotel and styling. We booked the double room with the extra office area which was lovely to have. There are many extra details like offerings of water snacks alcohol and hot tea for on your honor service. They used glass water bottles if you needed extra water and breakfast was included. The breakfast had a huge variety and the service was attentive and so friendly. Honestly I would stay here again in a heartbeat. I feel fortunate to have booked this hotel!

We stayed here 8 years ago and at the time I remarked that it may have been my favourite place to stay ever. Well, when we made a return trip to Catalonia - a stop in Begur at the Aiguaclara was the only place we *had* to return to and it once again did not disappoint. A perfect hotel in a perfect location. Everything you need is a walk or 15 minute drive away. Paradise.
