Hotel Akureyri (Akureyri, Iceland) 3 Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"If a few days in and around Reykjavík aren’t enough to satisfy your Icelandic urges, the next logical step is the around-the-island road trip — in which case the so-called Capital of the North plays a central role. It’s also a fine spot from which to view the Northern Lights, if you’re here in winter. And in Hotel Akureyri it’s got a boutique hotel whose style and atmosphere are anything but provincial." - Tablet Hotels

Loved the atmosphere of the hotel and the room. |People’s enjoyment of this hotel appears to differ depending on what room category they’ve booked. We had a superior ocean view room in the new extension part and couldn’t have been more pleased with it. The bed was comfortable, the room spacious but the bathroom was quite tiny- albeit perfectly adequate. A Dyson hairdryer was provided and a Nespresso machine for coffee. It would have been nice if there had been a kettle for tea though but we know Iceland is big on coffee and not tea. |Breakfast was served in a different building and the room was extremely tastefully decorated with a distinct retro vibe. Loved it . The choice at breakfast was very good choice but there was no fish. Their cinnamon buns were particularly tasty. We loved the eclectic decor of the hotel- mixing old with new and the particular retro vibe. The bar and entrance reminded us of retro places in New York, the breakfast room of an upmarket ski chalet- beautiful. The lobby was perfect for lounging ( and drinking beer). |We wouldn’t hesitate to come back

We loved this hotel. The most outstanding aspect was the breakfast - one of the best we have ever experienced at any hotel. Fresh, delicious food with a a really wide range of choice. All credit to the kitchen staff who work so hard and the planning which goes into this superb start of the day. | We stayed for three nights in the new annex which is where breakfast is served. Our room (331) was sufficiently spacious, comfortable and tastefully furnished. It would have benefited from a small chest of drawers or additional shelves to place our clothes on. Apart from that, we were very pleased with it. The room was was a good temperature throughout our stay. | The lounge and bar in the main building is very pleasant and has an inviting, quirky charm. | The staff we spoke with were all friendly and helpful. | Can definitely recommend this well located and attractive hotel. It certainly enhanced our very enjoyable stay in Akureyri.

Last hotel in our road trip in Iceland. Very nice hotel, new, we could see that they are still adding some signs and shades in front of the hotel. The lobby/reception area is very warm and very well decorated. The room was bit small, could barely find a space for my suitcase, but nice room. It has all the basic items you need, coffee machine but no kettle. There is hair dryer, shampoo, shower gel, towels, but no body lotion. Some of the rooms in some floors, you have to go some steps down to reach the room, like I did. The staff are really nice. The food was yummy, I think the best breakfast I had in Iceland. Lots of fresh things like the bread and cinnamon rolls. For the breakfast, you have to walk to the other building, not sure if this is temporary situation or the normal way since they have two buildings next to each other! But I recommend this hotel which is close to some stores, restaurants, and coffee shops.

We stayed at Hotel Akureyri and overall had a really positive experience. It is a really nice hotel with a great ambience throughout, and the staff were genuinely friendly and helpful. We upgraded to a sea view room, which was a great choice. The room was a really good size, the bed was comfy, and having a fridge in the room was a big plus. The TV had broadband, so we could watch things in the evening, which was ideal after a long day out. There were a couple of downsides. Our first room had a damaged TV (not their fault), but they moved us without any fuss, even though we were not reporting or expecting to move rooms. Storage-wise there also was not much space to put clothes, and there were a few small signs of wear in the room such as a missing door lock piece and a safe that was not working. That said, it did not spoil the stay at all. Breakfast was really nice every morning, with high-quality food, buffet style, and ready to go. Overall, we had a great time and would definitely stay again if we are back in the area.

The old building has a lot of character such as interesting wall decorations, books, cozy lobby. We spent two nights in the new building, but the few common areas in the new building were decorated similarly. However, some work still needs to be done such as hallway light fixtures. Check in was smooth and the desk person was very friendly.||Our room was very small as others have commented on. That was manageable, but the lack any storage spaces at all was a problem. Not even hooks on the walls - nothing. More frustrating was the lack of towel racks - inexcusable. I am hoping that this is an oversight as part of the new construction, but it must be fixed immediately. With that said, the room decor was of excellent quality and very clean.||Breakfast in the new building was very good - lots of room and a wide selection of hot and cold food. Only annoyance was that the music in the breakfast room was too loud and too offbeat for that time of day. ||Free parking right next door, lots of spaces when we were there. The hotel is also just a few block walk from the center of town, which was very convenient. By the way, the picture here shows just the old building. The new building is now immediately to the right.||We would have given it a higher rating except for the lack of essential storage options in the room, especially towel racks.

We stayed one night here and had the best time. The hotel was conveniently located for us to explore the rest of the town on foot. There was ample free parking just in front of the hotel. The breakfast was such a treat - delicious cold and hot options. Great service from the staff. We stayed in the standard double room which had everything we needed - Nepresso machine, hair dryer, good toiletries and very comfortable beds.

We didn't stay here but I wish I had. We hung out in the lobby/bar for drinks two nights in a row. Staff were super friendly. Space was very stylish and the most social/amount of activity we saw in town.
