Hotel Akureyri (Akureyri, Iceland) 3 Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"If a few days in and around Reykjavík aren’t enough to satisfy your Icelandic urges, the next logical step is the around-the-island road trip — in which case the so-called Capital of the North plays a central role. It’s also a fine spot from which to view the Northern Lights, if you’re here in winter. And in Hotel Akureyri it’s got a boutique hotel whose style and atmosphere are anything but provincial." - Tablet Hotels

We stayed here for 2 nights, our room was located in the newer bit of the original hotel with a lake view. |Having read reviews when booking, we decided to book a standard double as opposed to the economy room. We were pleased with our room, which, although not spacious, it was clean, the bed was comfortable, good shower and lovely views of the lake. |Breakfast was in another building along the road. Plenty of umbrellas were provided, so we didn’t get wet during the consistent rain we experienced. |The bar area was a nice place to chill out before dinner or later in the evening with a few lively games of pool. There were also other table games to play and plenty of coffee table books to browse through. |This hotel is well located with free parking, while both the old town and new town were only a few minutes away. The harbour, where you can go on whale watching tours is at the most 15 minutes walk.

Hotel Akureyri is an absolutely beautiful hotel. Very nicely decorated inside and the rooms are very well appointed. The beds are extremely comfortable and the lobby area with Bar is a cozy place to hang out. The breakfast was amazing and is what really makes this hotel stand out. There is free parking and the location is great too, walkable to everything you need.

I would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting this area of Iceland. We got the economy small room and it was still great. The hotel is newly renovated and perfectly decorated. It had modern touches on a vintage vibe. The breakfast buffet had loads of options.

Hotel Akureyri conveniently located between Ole Town and City Ctr was a highlight of our Icelandic experience while visiting the North Country for several days. Our rm was clean, spacious, and comfortable. The staff were terrific... soo friendly & helpful. The hotel offered an amazing Breakfast Buffet (not to be missed) & a delightful Happy Hour in their lobby/lounge/game rm. Although we did not take advantage, there is also a nice restaurant, and laundry facility on site. Would definitely recommend.

good location for exploring Akureyri, lobby was very nicely decorated with fun furniture and vibes. Rooms were a bit plain and small and got very hot during the night (but we had a fan provided so this wasn’t too bad), but beds were very comfy. Room overall could do with a bit of a renovation but it was still pleasant enough Breakfast choice was excellent with freshly baked bread and cinnamon rolls

We absolutely loved our stay at Hotel Akureyri. The staff is very friendly, it‘s a nice atmosphere and perfect location between the old town and the newer part of Akureyri. The highlight was definitely the breakfast with a wide selection of delicious and local food. We would definitely stay here again if we ever come back to Akureyri

There is nothing good about this hotel except its location, which is convenient. We had a “superior double with an ocean view” which gave us a view of the bus parked in front of the hotel and the construction right next door. The bathroom is small and cramped, with absolutely no counter space and not a single hook or towel bar to hang anything on. And while they provide a hair dryer, there isn’t an outlet in the bathroom for you to plug the dryer into. And that is the only mirror in the room. Who designed this place anyway? The WC in the lobby area had toilet paper hanging from a rope. There was no soap in the dispenser and the hand dryer didn’t work. The Pinot noir they served in the lobby during happy hour had turned to vinegar. Over all, a very disappointing stay.

This is the best experience we had here. The hotel is very cheap in comparison to other hotel we stayed around the island. The service is very good. The breakfast is for free and it is literally the best breakfast we had here. The room is very cozy and lovely. The location is just at the center of the town. Overall, this hotel is very very underrated. Very good experience!
