"A three-star with comforts well above its category, Al Ponte Mocenigo is a rare phenomenon in Venice: stylish, spacious, and fairly priced. Expect a warm welcome from two owner-managers, Valter and Sandro, who will make you wonder whether you misheard the price. In fact, Al Ponte Mocenigo may be unique, which may explain why this little place by the San Stae vaporetto stop draws everyone from budget tourists and Venice habitués to families and single travelers, all of whom feel safe and at quite home. Did we mention the superb carved marble well in the courtyard? You don't even need to step out of the hotel to feel immersed in the history of this unique city." - Sarah James, Anne Hanley

"Why book? A three-star with comforts well above its category, Al Ponte Mocenigo is a rare phenomenon in Venice: stylish, welcoming, spacious, and fairly priced. Set the scene Budget accommodation exists in Venice; stylish, well-priced accommodation offering comfort in large rooms and with a warm welcome from two owner-managers, Valter and Sandro, who will make you wonder whether you misheard the price is absolutely exceptional. In fact, Al Ponte Mocenigo may be unique, which may explain why this little place by the San Stae vaporetto stop draws everyone from budget tourists and Venice habitués to families and single travelers, all of whom feel safe and at quite home. The backstory The long-running three-star Al Ponte Mocenigo has stuck to its course through the years, adding an annex here and new mod cons (such as air purifiers for COVID-era guests) over the years but never veering from its mission to provide all the trappings of a far pricier, more exclusive hotel at rates which make it affordable for a wide demographic, which explains the high number of returnees who make getting a booking here a challenge. The rooms Valter and Sandro have taken the heavy brocade-and-chandeliers ethos of the typical Venetian hotel and turned it into something lighter and more cheerful. Rooms in rich greens and golds are remarkably large for this hotel category, as are the bathrooms. The 15 rooms in the main hotel benefit from the general warmth emanating from the reception and gorgeous inner courtyard of this 15th-century palazzo. The six rooms in the adjoining annex are just as lovely... but, in the annex. Food and drink Breakfast in the inner courtyard of Al Ponte Mocenigo is a delight, with kindly staff distributing excellent fresh pastries plus fruit and savory offerings, and very good coffee. There's a charming breakfast room when the weather drives guests inside. Drinks are available from the little hotel bar through the day. In keeping with the home-from-home vibe, each room is equipped with a kettle. The neighborhood/area The quiet residential quarter of Santa Croce may seem like a bit of a backwater but it doesn't take long to discover its charms, the first of them being that it's far from the masses. But there are excellent restaurants and some fascinating minor museums in this neck of the woods, and the San Stae vaporetto stop just round the corner means that the whole city is easily reached even when 15 minutes of fascinating center-wards trekking doesn't appeal. The service Affable, urbane, extremely well informed: this is the kind of homely professionalism which can make your trip something really special. There's always advice, help with reservations and simply someone to chat with. With COVID restrictions making buffet meals a no-no, a fleet of lovely ladies has been drafted in to make breakfast time a treat. For families There are sofas that can be transformed into single beds in some rooms, and two rooms in the adjoining annex, which can be joined to make a suite for family groups. Accessibility Al Ponte Mocenigo has no elevator and there are steps at the entrance which make it tough for anyone with mobility problems. That said, there are guest rooms on the ground floor, a rarity in Venice, which makes it simpler for those whose issues are less restricting. Anything left to mention? Did we mention the superb carved marble well in the courtyard? You don't even need to step out of the hotel to feel immersed in the history of this unique city." - Anne Hanley

We enjoyed our stay here so much. The room was beautiful and very quiet. The breakfast was absolutely amazing and sitting in the tiny court yard was wonderful. The staff were so helpful and nice. Loved the early check-in and late check-out (2 pm and 11 am).

Overall we had great experience at this hotel, located in quite area away from all the noise but close to everything you need, the service is great, rooms are so romantic and clean, the only downside is the breakfast options and timing only for 2 hours 8-10. 100% recommend if you are in Venice

I travelled solo with the kids here and we loved it!||It's off the beaten path, yet close enough: less than a 10 min walk to Rialto Bridge and another 10 to San Marcos.||I chose this hotel because it was easily accessible via private water taxi from the airport (traveling solo with kids and luggages from the US, I didn't want to drag our bags across the bridges), this hotel is less than a 2 minute flat walk from the water stop. I also didn't want to be directly in the action in case it was too loud to sleep. ||Breakfast buffet served everyday and the ladies running operations are fantastic! So warm/friendly and have been working their for years. For a small hotel, they had a full spread.||There is no elevator and you do have to walk up a flight of stairs with luggage, so be mindful. ||This is a modest hotel with a sincere heart and thoughtful touches. Highly recommended!

We spent the last 5 nights here, and it was an exceptional experience. The key advantage that this hotel has is that it is central to everything in Venice, yet it is in an area that is very quiet and clean. If you've ever been to Piazza San Marco, then you know how important it is to be able to escape the crowds at the end of a long day touring Venice and return to the peace and tranquility of your hotel. Additionally, there is a vaporetto stop at the end of the street, less than a minute from the hotel, which makes it very convenient to get around the island. I would also like to mention that the staff were all very friendly, helpful and welcoming. The breakfast was outstanding, way better than what I expected for a 3-star hotel and better than many 4-star hotels that I've stayed in. Plenty of hot and cold selections, pancakes, brioche, eggs, all tasting fresh. The beds were very comfortable too. I slept so well every night.

We loved this small hotel in a great location. Front of house staff, housekeepers and the girls at breakfast were all super friendly and helpful. Great room (5) with a small balcony overlooking a canal and quaint footbridges. Very close to Osteria Mocenigo which is excellent too.

Charming hotel with character. Very Italian and quaint. Helpful staff even assisting us to book tickets to a concert. Room was comfortable with everything we needed. Quiet street so not crowded compared to locations closer to St Mark's. Still plenty of nice restaurants within very short walking distance.

The quiet location and the vaporetto stop right down the street from the hotel were great, but the staff at the Hotel Al Ponte Mocenigo made our stay special. They were friendly and welcoming and the breakfast buffet was the best we had in Italy. We stayed in the junior suite with a Juliet balcony and corner window looking towards the Grand Canal. The decor is olde worlde with beautiful Murano glass lighting and the modern bathroom was spotless. We would definitely stay here on our next trip to Venice.

Such a magical hotel tucked away in Venice! Very easy to get to from the station. Right down the street from the vaporatto stop. We got a room in a separate building across a little canal. Got to walk over a little bridge to the main building for our delicious breakfast and had a beautiful canal view room!
