24 Best Hotels in Venice, Italy

"A three-star with comforts well above its category, Al Ponte Mocenigo is a rare phenomenon in Venice: stylish, spacious, and fairly priced. Expect a warm welcome from two owner-managers, Valter and Sandro, who will make you wonder whether you misheard the price. In fact, Al Ponte Mocenigo may be unique, which may explain why this little place by the San Stae vaporetto stop draws everyone from budget tourists and Venice habitués to families and single travelers, all of whom feel safe and at quite home. Did we mention the superb carved marble well in the courtyard? You don't even need to step out of the hotel to feel immersed in the history of this unique city." - Sarah James, Anne Hanley

Al Ponte Mocenigo

"Why book? A three-star with comforts well above its category, Al Ponte Mocenigo is a rare phenomenon in Venice: stylish, welcoming, spacious, and fairly priced. Set the scene Budget accommodation exists in Venice; stylish, well-priced accommodation offering comfort in large rooms and with a warm welcome from two owner-managers, Valter and Sandro, who will make you wonder whether you misheard the price is absolutely exceptional. In fact, Al Ponte Mocenigo may be unique, which may explain why this little place by the San Stae vaporetto stop draws everyone from budget tourists and Venice habitués to families and single travelers, all of whom feel safe and at quite home. The backstory The long-running three-star Al Ponte Mocenigo has stuck to its course through the years, adding an annex here and new mod cons (such as air purifiers for COVID-era guests) over the years but never veering from its mission to provide all the trappings of a far pricier, more exclusive hotel at rates which make it affordable for a wide demographic, which explains the high number of returnees who make getting a booking here a challenge. The rooms Valter and Sandro have taken the heavy brocade-and-chandeliers ethos of the typical Venetian hotel and turned it into something lighter and more cheerful. Rooms in rich greens and golds are remarkably large for this hotel category, as are the bathrooms. The 15 rooms in the main hotel benefit from the general warmth emanating from the reception and gorgeous inner courtyard of this 15th-century palazzo. The six rooms in the adjoining annex are just as lovely... but, in the annex. Food and drink Breakfast in the inner courtyard of Al Ponte Mocenigo is a delight, with kindly staff distributing excellent fresh pastries plus fruit and savory offerings, and very good coffee. There's a charming breakfast room when the weather drives guests inside. Drinks are available from the little hotel bar through the day. In keeping with the home-from-home vibe, each room is equipped with a kettle. The neighborhood/area The quiet residential quarter of Santa Croce may seem like a bit of a backwater but it doesn't take long to discover its charms, the first of them being that it's far from the masses. But there are excellent restaurants and some fascinating minor museums in this neck of the woods, and the San Stae vaporetto stop just round the corner means that the whole city is easily reached even when 15 minutes of fascinating center-wards trekking doesn't appeal. The service Affable, urbane, extremely well informed: this is the kind of homely professionalism which can make your trip something really special. There's always advice, help with reservations and simply someone to chat with. With COVID restrictions making buffet meals a no-no, a fleet of lovely ladies has been drafted in to make breakfast time a treat. For families There are sofas that can be transformed into single beds in some rooms, and two rooms in the adjoining annex, which can be joined to make a suite for family groups. Accessibility Al Ponte Mocenigo has no elevator and there are steps at the entrance which make it tough for anyone with mobility problems. That said, there are guest rooms on the ground floor, a rarity in Venice, which makes it simpler for those whose issues are less restricting. Anything left to mention? Did we mention the superb carved marble well in the courtyard? You don't even need to step out of the hotel to feel immersed in the history of this unique city." - Anne Hanley

We had a great 2 night stay at this hotel. We got the bus (ATVO) from the airport to Piazzale Roma. It took 20 minutes and is 18euros return. We walked from Piazzale Roma to the hotel but you can take a no1 Vaporetto I think. We got a bit lost but it was part of the fun. The hotel is 10seconds from San Stae Vaporetto stop, so great if you want a water bus. We walked to all the tourist attractions, took about 15 minutes to St marks square.|The hotel staff were all very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was great and we ate in the small courtyard both mornings and I sat there one evening. The bed was very comfy, I slept well. Our room was small but we didn't mind. It was great having toiletries in the room. The shower pressure was good. Air con is in the room too.| Its a small venetian friendly hotel and I would highly recommend.

The manager and staff were helpful and kind, even holding my bag while I hiked the Alta Via 2. My room was clean, attractive, comfortable, and reasonably priced. It was perfect for a solo traveler. The hotel was in a quiet neighborhood. Breakfast was delicious. It was close to the San Stae vaporetto stop, making transporting luggage easy. It was also within walking distance of the Rialto Bridge in one direction and some quiet non-touristy neighborhoods in the other direction. I was there in June, prime tourist time, yet the hotel and neighborhood were calm and quiet.

Wonderful little spot!! Very spacious for Venice with a large comfy bed. Delicious little breakfast buffet. Very friendly and helpful staff. Super easy to get too and walk everywhere yet tucked away enough for it to be quiet. Would definitely stay there again and recommend highly!

We loved our stay here! The staff were so friendly and kind. When we checked in they showed us to our room and shared everything we would need to know. The bed was very comfortable, the room was spotless, and it was quiet and cozy. We loved the breakfast complete with morning espresso/cappuccino. The hotel is within walking distance of the vaparrato stop and the train station. We are so glad we found this place!

Beautiful property in a perfect walkable location. Do yourself a favor and book the private taxi from the airport to the door! Felt very safe. Breakfast was good not spectacular everything fresh. Comfortable and clean with reasonable pricing.

The hotel is beautiful, the staff were welcoming and helpful, the room was clean, the bed was comfortable, the breakfast was well furnished with fruits, cheeses, meats, eggs and breads. The property is located near a vaporetto stop and easy walking distance to the train station. The neighborhood was quiet and away from the noise and hussle of the tourist areas. I would stay at this property again if my travels were to take me back to the lovely town of Venice!

Our party of six - two families - stayed here for two nights. My family of four (including our two adult daughters) stayed in the Junior Suite with two extra beds (as seen in photos) on the first floor of the main building. We anticipated a cramped situation, but we had ample space and storage. The family of two stayed in a Double Standard room in the adjacent building. They didn’t mind at all having to pop out of their building to come for breakfast. We all appreciated the Venetian charm - exposed beams, glass chandeliers, terrazzo flooring, traditional furniture - and quiet, yet accessible location. The bathrooms were well equipped with shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and lotion. The mattresses were a bit too firm for our liking, but we recognize this to be a personal preference. However, the sofa bed made-up for one of my daughters was found to be softer and very comfortable. The pillows were too flat for two of us, but housekeeping remedied this by bringing extra pillows. Each evening, we were asked to specify our requested breakfast time due to limited dining space and needing to stagger guests. Both mornings were a bit hectic upon arrival, however, which surprised me. I thought that by specifying our dining time a table would be ready. What potentially could make this better would be to provide each party with a set departure time, so tables could be prepped for the next seating, but I would guess this is less of an issue for a smaller party. Once a table was organized and we were seated, everything was delightful and smooth. The breakfast staff were chipper and hard-working. They took care of drink orders, but breakfast was self-serve; it consisted of items such as small pastries, deli meats, cheese, yoghurt, fresh fruit, scrambled eggs, bacon, and roasted tomatoes - all very well prepared and laid out. We particularly enjoyed eating in the courtyard our second morning. The front desk was always staffed with helpful and accommodating personnel. The hotel’s website lists this as a three-star, while it is listed as a two-star on Trip Advisor. Either way, Al Ponte Mocenigo provides spacious, clean rooms in a quiet environment, in close proximity to transportation and all attractions, offering excellent value for a stay in Venice.

Google
We loved Al Ponte Mocenigo after our three night late June stay. This small tidy and quiet three star Venice hotel is outside of the hubbub but an easy walk to all major sites. Very conveniently 50m from the San Stae vaperetto and Alilaguna stop on the Grand Canal for transiting to/from airport, train station, or islands. Many restaurant options within 10 minute walk. Our second level ("first floor") room was roomy for Europe, well appointed with comfy beds, couch, chairs, and tables, and had plenty of closets. The bathroom was excellent: clean, great shower, towel heaters etc (no ventilation though). We stayed during a heat wave (temps in the 90s with high humidity) and the central air conditioning was great, a real respite. Great free wifi too. The cheery front desk and breakfast staff were helpful and informative. We enjoyed the many included breakfast options (each night the front desk asks what time you prefer to breakfast). I feel lucky we found such a wonderful place to stay for our visit!

Yelp
We loved our stay at the Al Ponte Mocenigo! Service was great, everyone was super friendly. Hotel was also super clean and comfortable. It's also in a great area of the city, very accessible to tourist spots and delicious restaurants. They also serve breakfast which is really lovely. Great selection of fresh fruits, vegetables, pastries! No complaints :)

Yelp
Lovely little hotel in Venice with old fashioned rooms and great customer service. A little ways from Ponte Rialto and St. Mark's Square, but definitely walk able to all the touristy places. There is also a restaurant right behind it that is delicious in case you don't want to venture too far and risk getting lost (which we did a lot of in Venice). Although the staff did try to prevent this, and gave us a map of the city as well as recommendations. I think the main selling point for me was that with three travelers, we usually needed a queen and an extra bed, and the suite that we booked came with an extra bed in it's own separate little area that had it's own television (although we didn't use it, it was nice that it was there!). Plus, there were extra pillows and covers to make sure everyone was comfortable. Overall, a really lovely stay in Venice.

Yelp
Perfect hotel for our 3-night stay in Venice. Getting here was very easy as we took the vaporetto to the San Stae stop and walked about 50 meters. You have to be buzzed in (even as a guest) so make sure you ring the bell when you get to the door. Hotel keepers were very friendly, rooms were clean, and the location was terrific balance - not too far from the popular places, but also not too loud, busy and congested here either. When you leave the hotel premises, be sure to drop off your key at the front desk. They also strongly prefer if you can pay the VAT fees in cash when you check out. My only complaint about the rooms is that they are quite noisy. We could pretty much hear everything that our neighbors above us were doing. Breakfast is from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM if I recall. It has a combination of hot foods and cold items as well. The housekeepers double as breakfast servers.

Yelp
My gorgeous boyfriend got me a trip to Venice for my xmas present. 4 months later I was finally able to cash it in! So basically, i didnt do any research, i didnt look into anything at all, which is very rare for me. All this to say it was all a surprise & i cannot comment on price. Nonetheless, what a great pick! A lovely little hotel, with gorgeous little room, with high ceilings. Lovely little old school rooms. Service was great, breakfast included wasnt the most amazing but the ladies were so friendly, happy to set our breakfast in the patio (we started the trend for the following mornings! :) ) & the bread was warm out of the oven! Highly recommend!

Yelp
Great value for your money in Venice! When I told my fiancé that the Venice hotel we'll be staying at was only rated 2 stars, he wasn't expecting much. But what we got, we felt was much more than what we paid for. This is a wonderful hotel with old Venetian charm, but all the modern amenities you need while traveling (ok, maybe not AC during certain months, but that's not the hotel's fault... it's the law). From the point of reserving my room via e-mail to check-out, we felt very welcomed and everyone was extremely helpful. We got directions, restaurant recommendations, train schedules and had every question answered with outmost patience. We had a double superior room with the view of a canal for 2 nights. The room was excellent, with high ceilings and traditional Venetian décor; the bathroom was recently remodeled and spotless! I would have like a bit more space for my toiletries (I have a lot) and a more powerful hair dryer, but both were just a minor inconvenience. Despite the room overlooking the canal, we slept very well and didn't hear much noise in the morning. But we did sleep with our windows closed, would just get some air in before going to sleep. Breakfast was good with hot croissants, yogurt, cereal, juices and yummy cappuccinos! We've had similar breakfast at all of our hotels in Italy (sans hot croissants). Hotel location is excellent. While it's about 15-30 minute walk (depending on how many photos you take along the way) to the San Marco square, we loved being in this quiet neighborhood and very close to the San Stae vaporetto stop. We actually wanted to be away from the main square, I felt it was a great way to experience real Venice. I suggest you consider getting the Vaporetto pass, this way you will be able to take it anytime, especially at night after doing a lot of walking and eating. Finding the hotel... just follow the directions you get from the hotel and you will have no issues finding the back door and will not have to cross any bridges, which is a BIG plus in Venice. I posted a picture of the super narrow "street" you take to get to the back door of the hotel, because we couldn't believe it was it when we first saw it. From the airport, we took bus #5 to the 1st vaporetto stop and vaporetto #1 to get to San Stae. You can include bus #5 ride to/from the airport with your vaporetto pass, it's just a few euros more. I was concerned that this will take much longer, since we were arriving on a holiday, but the trip took us less than an hour and it was a relatively easy trip. Thank you Al Ponte Moncenigo for making our stay in Venice comfortable and memorable!

Yelp
Outstanding boutique hotel with lovely workers, delicious breakfast, super clean & spacious room...I cannot say enough about this place. First of all, it's a short jaunt from the St. Stae vaporetto stop and the canal-facing church is a gorgeous sight to behold. So while it's conveniently located, it's also set interiorly enough to be peaceful and quiet. The front desk staff greeted us warmly and kindly stored our luggage when we arrived at noon (hours prior to official check-in time). The staff serving coffee and stocking breakfast were friendly and dressed professionally. The room was immaculately cleaned daily and their standards of cleanliness are very high. The first floor room (lobby level) immediately to the right of the entrance is spacious with two twin beds that may be pushed together or pulled apart. Slept like a log on these supremely comfortable beds that are perfectly firm to fit my comfort level. In fact, they're superior to my own mattress back home. I was completely taken with the charming exposed beams that immediately transport you to the historical nature of the city. At the same time, the entire establishment, including the sleeping quarters, has been properly renovated to the highest degree of craftsmanship so that the lighting, closet, flooring, windows, walls, bathroom, etc. are all modernized and clean--so clean! Beautiful interior decoration throughout and the patio is perfectly balanced in scale and arrangement to somehow paradoxically feel spacious (vertically) and cozy at the same time. Breakfast is scrumptious. Terrific coffee & latte. Milk is warmed for you and served in adorable pots that match the pot for the coffee. Pastry filled with spinach is so savory and satisfying. Loved everything they served. We will most definitely be returning to this absolutely delightful, wonderful hotel.

Yelp
Stayed here for 3 nights on our honeymoon and couldn't be happier. The rooms were perfect, we had a window view of the canal and the staff was so friendly and helpful! Breakfast is terrific, a great change from our included bread, cheese and meat breakfast in Rome. The location was our favorite part, away from the tourist zone and close to some amazing restaurants. The water bus even stops a couple steps from the front door. We ate at Osteria Mocenigo twice because the first time was so amazing and at Bacarretta which was a terrific, more modern, small and friendly restaurant. Both with the best food we had during our stay. The coop is nearby and great shopping in the alleys. So glad we didn't buy anything in the tourist zone as we found better quality and price near our hotel. Would highly recommend staying here.

Yelp
I am sitting the beautiful court yard after a day of sight seeing. It's a quiet retreat from the crowds and it's refreshing atmosphere is a pleasant sanctuary. The attention to detail, beautiful rooms, and amazingly accommodating staff will draw us back to this hotel again. It is also close to neighborhood restaurants that have been better than those closer to tourist sights. We are frequent visitors to Venice and WILL return here!

Yelp
Stayed in an annex room overlooking the canal. Everything was great. 24 hour desk, everyone was helpful and friendly. Delicious breakfasts and steps away from great restaurants and the vaporetto stop. This place is really nice.

Yelp
My wife and I used this hotel during a recent trip to Venice. It's really easy to get to from the train and the airport is only a boat ride away. The water taxis are right out its front door, which can be a little tricky to find. The rooms are very clean and quiet. The morning breakfast is very fresh and the service is excellent. One other little bonus was the hotel did not require a down payment in order to secure the reservation. We paid when we were leaving the hotel, which was a little nice. The innkeeper said"... We never have problems with customers coming after they reserve a room. We may have a couple 'no-slows' but someone is always willing to take an empty room".

Yelp
This was one of the best experiences we've had staying at a hotel for vacation. Lovely room, impeccably clean, excellent free breakfast, and the nicest staff imaginable. The ladies who took care of breakfast were one nicer and kinder than the next, which gave us a great start to each day. Definitely did not feel like a two-star hotel. The location was also perfect, right off the San Stae stop, near 3 top museums (I mean, two minutes away), with plenty of good restaurants within a 5 minute walk. There is also a Coop with great food and snacks about 3 minutes away. The area was busy enough to feel lively at all hours, but not overwhelming like crowded spots by the Rialto or San Marco. Would not stay anywhere else when we come back to Venice.

Yelp
If you are in Venice, just stay here. Rooms and views are gorgeous, breakfast is perfect, and the front desk is beyond helpful. I am a light sleeper and had some of the best sleep in my life here. It's far enough away from many of the touristy areas so you can enjoy some calm and serenity, but easy enough to get around. Absolutely love it, and will certainly be back if I'm in Venice again.

Yelp
I loved staying in this hotel. So many things to talk about... where can I begin? Ah... let me make a list. Pros (a) Location - situated just a few meters away from San stae water bus station. Made it real easy to walk with luggage. 15-30 mins walk away from all other top attractions, restaurants etc. (b) Vibe - Think of a beautifully decorated 15th century room. This is it! Really. (c) Service - pleasant and accommodating at all times. (d) Breakfast - May be this should be a con. I had so much yummy food that i gained a pound! (e) Free wifi, great service staff (who made up our room so well - note worthy) Tricky - Price. We found a good deal but it is expensive but on par for the area. Venice is expensive. Cons - none. Road to other attractions can be confusing but Venice is confusing. I got lost for a few hours :)

Yelp
This hotel was absolutely great to say the least. It has a great breakfast which is included in the stay and the location was far enough (but still walking distance) from the Rialto Grand Canal area where it is nice and quiet. The room we had was very French style which was very nice and the bathroom was top notch in cleanliness and modern. One of the best parts is that if you are traveling to Venice via train, the train station is really close to this hotel. I definitely recommend this hotel to all couples. Stayed November 2013

Yelp
Wonderful spot, recommended by a friend. Gracious and accommodating hosts, well appointed with AC and free WiFi. A spectacular breakfast in the courtyard featuring fresh baked bread and fruit filled croissants. The rooms are decorated in a wonderful old-world Venitian style and ours also had a quaint sitting room. Very reasonably priced... we look forward to returning!

Yelp
We just left Al Ponte Mocenigo, after a lovely five night stay. This was our third time staying there and every stay has been great. This is a classy establishment, operated by people who know how to run a hotel. The rooms are spacious and beautifully appointed, the beds comfy (and perfect pillows, a rare thing in hotels for me). We love that this place is so easy to get to, just about 50 yards straight ahead from the St Stae vaporetto stop. So nice when you are arriving with luggage and you don't have to wander around looking for your hotel, as we saw many other tourists doing during our stay. The breakfast patio is a lovely spot to start your day, and they offer a good selection of pastries, meats and cheeses, yogurts, and cereal. The women who brought us our tea and coffee every morning were so cheerful and had perfect English. We loved our stay at Al Ponte Mocenigo and already look forward to returning.

Yelp
Our first trip to Venice and what a find. We love this hotel! The suite was beautiful, the breakfast was very nice, and sharing wine in the lovely patio, after walking all over Venice, was relaxing. The staff is absolutely superb. From the concierges to the breakfast & cleaning staff - all extremely friendly & competent. They know what's going on so ask them for recommendations! Perfectly situated with an amazing restaurant just 25 meters away - Osteria Mocenigo - THIS is a wonderful place to stay on your Venice vacation. Get going!!

Yelp
Great hotel. Great staff. They were so nice and helpful. The room was air conditioned and very clean. The bed was also comfortable. Wifi came in and out but that's okay. Shops are nearby and you are right by the water bus so you can get anywhere. Breakfast was good, cappuccino was delicious. If we ever visit Venice again this is where we will be staying.

Jan M.

Yelp
Beautiful hotel with incredible service and lovely rooms away from the crowds of Venice. Easily accessible and located in the quiet Santa Croce which is away from the masses who visit Venice and a wonderful reprive at the end of the day. I was traveling with my sons and was given a very large double room in the annex with views of the canal. The room was beautifuly decorated in the Venetian style and the bathrooms were large, newly updated and sparkeling clean. The breakfast each morning was served in their peaceful courtyard and the staff was amazing and helped us with everything we needed. I'd highly recommend staying here while in Venice.
