Where to Stay in Florence: The Best Neighborhoods For Your Visit

"I enjoyed the traditional Florentine decor at Hotel Alba Palace — each room is unique with antique terracotta floors, arched ceilings and exposed brick walls; the fantastic complimentary breakfast is served in a tranquil atrium with a glass ceiling, and rooms include a flatscreen TV, minibar, desk, Nespresso machine, hairdryer and safe, while bathrooms are small but have great water pressure and twin rooms are available for solo travelers who want to avoid hostels." - Matthew Kepnes

The 6 Best Hotels in Florence (Updated 2025)

"Located next to the cloisters of the Santa Maria Novella Basilica, this beautiful three-star hotel is decorated in a traditional Florentine style and I appreciate that each room is unique, with soft yellow walls, antique terracotta floors, arched ceilings, and exposed brick. The complimentary breakfast is fantastic and varied — pastries, yogurt, cakes, cold cuts, and espresso drinks — and it’s served in a tranquil atrium with a glass ceiling. All rooms include a flatscreen TV, minibar, desk, Nespresso machine, hairdryer, and safe; the beds are comfy and the soundproofed windows help you sleep well. The bathrooms are a bit small but have excellent shower pressure, a bidet, towel-warming racks, and complimentary toiletries. There are classic double rooms as well as cheaper single rooms for solo travelers, making it an affordable choice in one of the better neighborhoods of the city." - Matthew Kepnes

We stayed here for one night during our trip to Florence and couldn’t have been happier. The hotel is in an excellent location, just a short walk from the city center. The staff were welcoming and very accommodating, and the check-in process was quick and easy. Parking was available at a very reasonable rate, with the garage attendant conveniently handling both drop-off and return of the car. The room was spacious, well-equipped with all necessary amenities, and the breakfast was delicious. Overall, our stay was outstanding—definitely a 10/10. I would highly recommend this hotel to both solo travelers and families, as it offers fantastic value for the price.

It was a beautiful hotel, only a 7 minute walk from the station and a 10-15 minute walk from the major sites. The reception and breakfast teams were friendly and accommodating and the room was of a good size with exceptional cleanliness. Breakfast is included and has a varied selection including pancakes and some hot options as well.

We stayed in March 2025. A cute hotel very close to the train station. The rooms are clean and new. The TV in the room was high quality and the internet service was also very successful. The breakfast was very good. The croissant was very delicious, definitely worth trying.

Lovely hotel with personality. I actually felt like I was back in time. Excellent location. We walked everywhere. And the train station is around the corner. So we came from Roma by train, walked to the hotel from the station. My 68 yo mother walked that distance with a carry-on, you can do it to :). Everything was clean. Had a safe inside large enough for laptop. We have one queen and one small bed. The small bed was not the most comfortable, but manageable. Air conditioning was working fine and you can control the temperature yourself from inside your room. Hot water, amenities, all there, nice. The restroom door is a sliding door, so is not like a regular door but it does the trick. I might be blind but only could find one electrical outlet. Luckily, I carry a power strip so I could charge, camera, battery, and phones, computer all at once. Breakfast was great. Also there is a free drink during happy hour. Nice. Can store bags before or after check in/out before you head out to your next destination. Very nice hotel. Recommended.

Great location close to railway and bus station and with walking distance to all the famous buildings, bridges and squares. A very popular Osteria as well as one of Florence's "wine windows" right on the doorstep. Very friendly and customer focused staff. An extra plus the for the amazing cappuccino 👍

Extremely clean and functional even if the showers are a little small for the over 6fts(1.84m) Great location. All staff there helpful, shared interesting stories, plus the lady managing the breakfast area was amazing , how she helped with additional things (we needed non dairy milk) and how friendly and welcoming she was.

Thank you so much Verena to help me. I have an emergency and she helped me call many dentists to solve my problem. So responsible and nice. Really appreciate it.

The hotel is very close to the train station, which is a big advantage if you are traveling by train. Also, they keep your luggage free of charge after check-out, which is very useful if you are leaving the city late. The hotel's breakfast was above our expectations. The cheeses and croissants were especially delicious. The rooms are clean, there is a coffee machine and a fridge. It is just a little small for a family, and the hotel needs some renovation. However, it is not a big problem for short stays. You can walk all over the city from the hotel, and there are nice restaurants around.

Yelp
I judge a hotel in a few basic things: 1) how I sleep 2) my shower 3) location and then of course other little details Sleep: The bed is on the firm side and the pillows flat, but that said; I slept amazingly well. The room temp was perfect and the double windows- yes, not just double paved windows, but DOUBLE double panel windows made for a quiet night Showers: The shower looks small from the inside, but once you get in; it's tiny. But, it has a handheld hose option, the pressure is perfect and I never ran out of hot water. So I give it an A+ Location: We came by train and this hotel is only a few minutes walk from Santa Maria Novella Station. And yet we loved the intimate little neighborhood it's in. Breakfast: Excellent! A great spread each morning of pastries, good coffee, juices, scrambled eggs, hard boiled eggs, sliced meats, cereal, cheese, yogurt and more. Just a great stay in a marvelous city! Can't wait to return. That breakfast!!

Yelp
The best hotel I've ever stayed in! Not only is the hotel's decor beautiful, but it's super comfortable (Perfect temperature without having to mess with a heating system). The morning breakfast buffet is delicious and awesome, especially if you're a typical tourist like myself who wants to try classic Italian pastries. You can also ask for custom made drinks like cappuccino and hot chocolate and the employees will gladly make them for you. It only takes a few days for this hotel to start feeling like a home. I was sad to leave! If you're visiting Florence, you should DEFINITELY stay in the Hotel Alba Palace.

Yelp
Immediate when I walked in a very nice woman greeted me. Although the rooms are very quaint, I am giving this hotel five-stars because the excellent customer service the cleanest of the rooms and the more than generous breakfast buffet. I cannot forget to mention "Giusy" Who sets up this buffet. She is extremely nice and makes you feel more than welcome with her character. The Hotel is five minutes from the train station and walking distance to all the shops and sites. I will definitely be back.

Yelp
A very nice hotel!! Clean, big room, big bath and a good quality TV. The breakfast couldn't have been better and the staff was very accommodating. The location is noisy (but almost all big Italian cities are) but close to all the sites. A good value by Italian standards and we would definitely stay here again.

Yelp
My wife and I stayed here passing through on our honeymoon trip through Tuscany. The suite was wonderful. Modern bathroom appointments with the main chambers retaining that Gothic Florentine style. The breakfast was delicious and a great start to our days of exploring the city which, given the hotel was a stone's throw from the train station, was quite easy. Special bonus points for the lovely honeymoon gift that greeted us when we arrived. Will definitely be bringing our friends here when we come back to visit!
