The 6 Best Hotels in Lisbon (Updated 2025)

"Set in a beautifully restored 1865 building, this three-star boutique keeps a historic atmosphere with antique Portuguese furniture and elegant details. The location is great — just a couple of blocks west of Avenida da Liberdade — and there’s a little kiosk in the park across the street where I enjoy a drink and people-watching. Breakfast isn’t included but is worth ordering: a nice buffet from fresh pastries to omelets served in a cute breakfast room. Rooms are cozy and classy with hardwood floors, unique artwork, antique furniture, chandeliers, and Portuguese tile around the large windows and in the spacious bathrooms. In-room amenities include AC, bathrobes and slippers, a Nespresso machine, a flatscreen TV, an in-room safe, and a minibar. I think you get great value here and you’re within walking distance of many main sights." - Matthew Kepnes

An underrated gem! Located in a quiet yet central area, this hotel is perfect for exploring Lisbon. The room was spacious, spotless, and tastefully decorated in a charming, traditional style with very comfortable bedding. The staff are friendly and attentive, making the stay even more enjoyable. Breakfast is excellent, with a wide variety of options to start the day, and dinner is a real success thanks to a talented chef serving flavorful and refined dishes. I highly recommend hotel Alegria for a comfortable and gourmet stay!

We had an enjoyable stay at this cosy and quiet hotel which has a laid-back atmosphere and is well located. Our room was immaculate clean with comfortable beds and had a tiny balcony. All staff members were professional, polite and genuinely attentive. The breakfast selection was rich. We also enjoyed having a coffee or a little snack at the green kiosk on the small square and relax after a long day of walking around the city. Highly recommended!

Incredibly charming hotel. Lots of historical details, lending the whole place a colonial feel. Rooms are spacious and very clean, beds are comfortable. The location is first class, right in the centre of the city, but set in a quiet little square with an affiliated little bar in the centre. The breakfast is absolutely lovely, lots of cooked and cold options, lovely fruit choices and good coffee. Lastly all the staff are a delight and can’t do enough for you. It is perhaps the best capital city boutique hotel I’ve stayed in. Simply put if you are staying in Lisbon and you aren’t staying here you are doing it wrong

I rarely write these reviews however Hotel Alegria was so exceptional and such a joy to stay in that I felt I needed to write. The management could not have been kinder and the room was spacious, sun-filled and absolutely beautiful in a creative, thoughtful, very comfortable and elegant fashion. All the amenities such as hangers for your things, coffee and tea service, bathroom toiletries, heavy curtains for sleep render the space delightful. On my birthday I was completely surprised by two generous and delicious slices of chocolate cake that was discreetly placed in my room and waiting to surprise us when we returned from our day. The day and night staff helped us figure out excursions and train schedules and even printed these out for us. The breakfast is fabulous and opulent. They had great fruit, yogurt, protein options and all we needed to enjoy healthy and delicious breakfasts. Hotel Alegria is a true and rare gem, with a great location and caring, smart staff to meet your needs.

Such a lovely and quaint hotel in a beautiful area of Lisbon. We stayed in two different rooms but it’s very quiet no matter where you are because the windows are double glazed (very helpful for light sleepers). The food is delicious, substantial breakfasts on offer, great coffee, spacious rooms with nice views. The staff are also very helpful, particularly David, he was wonderful. If I come to Lisbon again I will definitely stay here.

Yelp
Hotel Alegria is a wonderful hotel right off the famous Av da Liberdade. It is next to the cute little park, in a middle of everything, walking distance from everywhere, yet in a quite & quaint part. We stayed here for 5 nights & really enjoyed our stay. The room was classy & had everything you could wish for. All the staff members were amazing. Very helpful & accommodating. On our first night we realized that our AC wasn't working properly. We mentioned it to the front desk the next morning & right away someone was sent to check it out. When it couldn't be fixed we were given another room instantly. We appreciated it VERY much. We don't normally have breakfasts in hotels that we stay in because we like to go out & try different things... however we had breakfast here one time & enjoyed it very much. We will definitely stay in this charming hotel next time we are in Lisbon.

Yelp
This hotel is wonderful! The building and rooms are charming, the staff is efficient, and the breakfast totally seals the deal! I've been staying at Hotel Alegria for about 4 days now and it's been a good experience. The room, while small, is very comfortable and has all the amenities I need. When something is missing, like an iron and ironing board, one can be supplied by just asking the front desk. The people who clean the rooms are quick and do a great job. Excellent stay and hope to stay here again when I return to Lisbon.

Yelp
The location of this place is perfect, and I loved spending evenings in praça alegria having a drink and enjoying some live music. The rooms were beautiful as well and so charming, and the place was impeccably clean! Best of all, everyone at the hotel was so kind and personable. Inês in particular was AWESOME! My mom forgot her phone on the plane, and Inês went above and beyond to help by calling the lost and found multiple times for us and helping us find more info. She was so kind and helpful! Thank you Inês!

Yelp
I almost never leave reviews. Just busy and well, not that into it. But Hotel Alegria is a wonderful treasure in Lisbon that forced me to make an exception. Bernard, George, and their designer, Joelle, as well as all the staff made our romantic European fantasy hotel a reality with its charming rooms, a sidewalk cafe, and an outdoor kiosk/cafe across the street in the wonderful little plaza in front of the hotel. Service was perfect. Breakfast too with a large, variety of fresh breads, fruits, juices, cheeses, pastries, charcuterie, eggs, etc. Everything is quality. Beds were great. Firm but comfortable. Location is on a small, quiet square close to everything. We walked everywhere but also were able to sleep at night. We spent 2.5 weeks traveling through Portugual. We loved the Hotel Alegria so much we booked it again upon our return to Lisbon. When we checked out at 4:30 a.m. to catch our flight home, staff had a breakfast package ready for us. Highly recommended. Glenn and Juan, Sacramento, CA

Yelp
Typical European hotel with small but charming rooms. The staff are friendly and helpful. The breakfast is a reasonable price and good value for what you get. Really great location! Convenient to the metro and only 30 min or so away from Lisbon's airport. Almost all main attractions of the city are walking distance and the rest are an easy metro or cab ride away.
