The 6 Best Hotels in Lisbon (Updated 2025)

"Set in a beautifully restored 1865 building, this three-star boutique keeps a historic atmosphere with antique Portuguese furniture and elegant details. The location is great — just a couple of blocks west of Avenida da Liberdade — and there’s a little kiosk in the park across the street where I enjoy a drink and people-watching. Breakfast isn’t included but is worth ordering: a nice buffet from fresh pastries to omelets served in a cute breakfast room. Rooms are cozy and classy with hardwood floors, unique artwork, antique furniture, chandeliers, and Portuguese tile around the large windows and in the spacious bathrooms. In-room amenities include AC, bathrobes and slippers, a Nespresso machine, a flatscreen TV, an in-room safe, and a minibar. I think you get great value here and you’re within walking distance of many main sights." - Matthew Kepnes

We had a lovely stay here! David, Hayelli, and Ines were wonderful, helpful, and friendly. The overall guest service was great, our room was clean and charming, cleaning services was great, and the location was convenient. The staff made us feel very special for our honeymoon experience by leaving us a thoughtful surprise in our room when we checked in: flower petals, desserts, and champagne! So sweet and thoughtful. We would stay here again and would recommend to others. Obrigado!

My wife and I had an INCREDIBLE stay at Hotel Alegria in Lisbon. The location was absolutely perfect, quiet, yet within walking distance to everything. Our room was very clean and comfortable and had great views over the praca (park). The room had everything we needed and the breakfast was the perfect way to start our day. But the absolutely best part of our stay was interacting with the staff - everyone from the front desk, housekeeping, and the breakfast team were very friendly and helpful. I want to mention by name, Raely at the front desk, so helpful and friendly, (and after a long overnight flight from USA - that is so appreciated!), she held our luggage, told us where to have lunch and offered to call us when our room was ready - she was awesome. We hope to visit again next year and will definitely stay again!

We stayed at Hotel Alegria during our very first trip to Lisbon this past August, and it turned out to be the perfect choice. After spending months searching for the right accommodation, we couldn’t have been happier with our stay. From the moment we arrived, everything was wonderful. The staff were warm and welcoming, and the cleaning service was excellent throughout our stay. We booked the Master Suite Park View, and it was absolutely lovely—spacious, with a beautiful bathroom, plenty of vanity space for all my makeup and hair products, and great mirrors (a big plus!). Breakfast was another highlight. Each morning, the hotel prepared the most charming buffet, almost like a little charcuterie spread, with fresh fruits, pastries, yogurts, eggs, and more. Everything was delicious, and the breakfast staff were just as attentive and kind as the rest of the team. The location was also ideal—we could walk to everywhere we wanted to go, from restaurants where we had made reservations to local street markets and attractions. Overall, our stay at Hotel Alegria was a wonderful experience from start to finish. We would absolutely stay here again on future trips to Lisbon and would highly recommend it to family and friends!

We stayed in a charming spacious and clean room with two French doors that overlooks onto a beautiful small park called Praca da Alegria. Our room came equipped with a small Smeg refrigerator fully stocked with complimentary drinks and a Smeg kettle that was ideal for making tea. We had the hotel arrange for our transportation from the airport, and our driver Miguel was so friendly and personable. The hotel also offers a lovely buffet breakfast downstairs in their dining room.||One of the things that appealed to us about Hotel Alegria is its fantastic central location. There are many eateries nearby (we loved Villa’s Gourmet Wine Bar just steps away) and the famous Avenida da Liberdade is less than a 2-minute walk. We were delighted by all the vendors selling handcrafted Portuguese goods from their stalls on this tree-lined boulevard.||Overall we were impressed by this boutique hotel that offers a personable experience from their courteous staff!

Very nice hotel, the rooms are beautiful, a mix of modern and old. The bed was very comfortable, the wooden blinds block out all the light, the bathroom is well furnished and everything is clean. The concierge service is amazing, Ines pointed us in the right direction on things to see, transportation and restaurants. The hotel is well situated. The only problem is the elevator that is a bit scary, I think it is overdue for an inspection based on the date on the sticker. Overall great experience.

The room itself was a bit sparse, but clean and spacious, and the location was great--despite being in a fairly busy part of the city (right next to Avenue de Liberdad), it was tucked away in a circle overlooking a nice park with a cafe quiosk and fountain. It allowed walking access to a lot of different parts of the city (though like everywhere in Lisbon, beware the steep hills and slippery cobblestones!) The staff were lovely. My husband was feeling sick one night and one of the staff brought dinner up to us, and then asked how he was feeling a few days later. The breakfasts were also very nice, and they generally had water with lemon and a plate of pastries available in the lobby throughout the day. This is a great option for a boutique hotel with charm if you want to stay in the city.

An underrated gem! Located in a quiet yet central area, this hotel is perfect for exploring Lisbon. The room was spacious, spotless, and tastefully decorated in a charming, traditional style with very comfortable bedding. The staff are friendly and attentive, making the stay even more enjoyable. Breakfast is excellent, with a wide variety of options to start the day, and dinner is a real success thanks to a talented chef serving flavorful and refined dishes. I highly recommend hotel Alegria for a comfortable and gourmet stay!

Yelp
Hotel Alegria is a wonderful hotel right off the famous Av da Liberdade. It is next to the cute little park, in a middle of everything, walking distance from everywhere, yet in a quite & quaint part. We stayed here for 5 nights & really enjoyed our stay. The room was classy & had everything you could wish for. All the staff members were amazing. Very helpful & accommodating. On our first night we realized that our AC wasn't working properly. We mentioned it to the front desk the next morning & right away someone was sent to check it out. When it couldn't be fixed we were given another room instantly. We appreciated it VERY much. We don't normally have breakfasts in hotels that we stay in because we like to go out & try different things... however we had breakfast here one time & enjoyed it very much. We will definitely stay in this charming hotel next time we are in Lisbon.

Yelp
This hotel is wonderful! The building and rooms are charming, the staff is efficient, and the breakfast totally seals the deal! I've been staying at Hotel Alegria for about 4 days now and it's been a good experience. The room, while small, is very comfortable and has all the amenities I need. When something is missing, like an iron and ironing board, one can be supplied by just asking the front desk. The people who clean the rooms are quick and do a great job. Excellent stay and hope to stay here again when I return to Lisbon.

Yelp
The location of this place is perfect, and I loved spending evenings in praça alegria having a drink and enjoying some live music. The rooms were beautiful as well and so charming, and the place was impeccably clean! Best of all, everyone at the hotel was so kind and personable. Inês in particular was AWESOME! My mom forgot her phone on the plane, and Inês went above and beyond to help by calling the lost and found multiple times for us and helping us find more info. She was so kind and helpful! Thank you Inês!

Yelp
I almost never leave reviews. Just busy and well, not that into it. But Hotel Alegria is a wonderful treasure in Lisbon that forced me to make an exception. Bernard, George, and their designer, Joelle, as well as all the staff made our romantic European fantasy hotel a reality with its charming rooms, a sidewalk cafe, and an outdoor kiosk/cafe across the street in the wonderful little plaza in front of the hotel. Service was perfect. Breakfast too with a large, variety of fresh breads, fruits, juices, cheeses, pastries, charcuterie, eggs, etc. Everything is quality. Beds were great. Firm but comfortable. Location is on a small, quiet square close to everything. We walked everywhere but also were able to sleep at night. We spent 2.5 weeks traveling through Portugual. We loved the Hotel Alegria so much we booked it again upon our return to Lisbon. When we checked out at 4:30 a.m. to catch our flight home, staff had a breakfast package ready for us. Highly recommended. Glenn and Juan, Sacramento, CA

Yelp
Typical European hotel with small but charming rooms. The staff are friendly and helpful. The breakfast is a reasonable price and good value for what you get. Really great location! Convenient to the metro and only 30 min or so away from Lisbon's airport. Almost all main attractions of the city are walking distance and the rest are an easy metro or cab ride away.
