6 Luxurious Paris Mansions That You Can Actually Stay In

"In 1860, sugar tycoon Alfred Sommier purchased and restored the 17th-century castle Vaux-le-Vicomte and built a double Haussmannian mansion inside of a stone-flagged courtyard just steps from Place de la Madeleine. In 2019, Richard de Warren, a descendant of the Sommier family, introduced the refurbished property as an alternative to soulless big-box hotels. Belle Époque flourishes abound throughout the 80 rooms and public spaces in the form of herringbone parquet floors, marble fireplaces, gilded moldings, and a grand staircase flanked with caryatides. These, plus the leafy courtyard for breakfast and cocktails, are manna to Francophiles who love a whiff of old-world haute société."

Beautiful boutique sized hotel, around the corner from La Madeleine. Rooms are small but nice, great bathrooms. AC will get you to 73F. We had a lovely view of the courtyard and those nice wall murals. The hotel is on a quiet street, with a nice courtyard, large enough to host parties (2 during our stay). The wait staff was nice, but the restaurant wouldn’t split a dinner bill between two rooms, so we only ate there once. Breakfast (included) is very nice. There is an extra Parisian tax (à la NYC) that will add a few hundred euros on to your stay, so beware!

The location was good and the hotel room was nice. They responded immediately when I had a problem, which was very helpful. The owner and staff were also kind, and I was very happy to be welcomed warmly in a homely atmosphere. I had a wonderful time that I will never forget. I would like to go to Paris again just to stay at this hotel. I am very grateful.

Definitely not a five star hotel! The place has good bones, but they aren’t keeping it up and repairs are not done properly. The toilet room has no running water and you must go all the way around to wash your hands. Hotel is decorated very cute except for new modern photos that are placed over the beds that don’t go with the hotel theme. The downstairs courtyard is very cute. Large elevator. Restaurant is terrible. I would not recommend spending extra money for this particular hotel… they need to improve and really just do the bare essentials of cleaning.

The Alfred Sommier Hotel is beautiful. The concierge service is impeccable, professional, caring. We loved working with your staff. Breakfast is delicious. Rooms are charming, old world but up to date with luxuries. All our needs were met and more. It’s like a home away from home.

We had a wonderful stay. Our family of five, including children,, was made to feel like family. The structure is beautiful, authentic, understated but elegant. But the true pleasure was interacting with the staff. Whether it's the valet assisting with luggage or taxis, the concierge assisting with hair salon appointments, restaurant recommendations and reservations, the room cleaners, the breakfast servers, all were friendly and determined to deliver. Well done, all around.

What an experience! Hotel Alfred Sommier is an incredible piece of history and paradise in the 8th. We were there for a wedding, and decided to stay a few days before and after - let's just say, unpacking and living like Parisienne for 10 days in July is something everyone should do at some point in their lives. This hotel has a ton of really cool history, and if you decide to get a slightly larger room it's extremely comfortable. Our favourite part of the room was being able to full unpack, and there was a nice little corridor down the side of the room that we could tuck our suitcases away and out of sight for the entire time. Of the many other beautiful aspects of this hotel, highly recommend ensuring you get the breakfast every day. It's honestly one of the better breakfasts we've had when travelling, and we typically don't do hotel breakfasts. Crepes, eggs, cheese, smoked salmon, plus incredible coffee! Great to fuel up for an average of 18k steps a day for our trip :D Lastly, everyone we interacted with at the hotel was incredible. My wife said that not only was every request met with a "Oui", it was also met with a smile. Genuine incredible customer service. Some folks that stood out for us were Melanie, Henri, Mokeena, and Anya. Everything from random requests to dinner recommendations - highly appreciated, very knowledgeable, and incredibly nice. 5 stars without a doubt. Skip the Hyatt's and the Ritz's... this is the true luxurious experience in Paris.

This was an absolutely EXQUISITE experience on every level. To start, the hotel is elegant, charming and located in a perfect place to see so much. Next, every staff member truly made me feel like family. So welcoming, accommodating, cheerful , fun and joyful. Next, the dinner in the BEAUTIFUL restaurant was DELICIOUS and memorable. Lastly, the very charming and proud owner Richard, made me feel so cared for and spent quality time to get to know a little about me. A very special hotel that I will now call “my go to place” when visiting BEAUTIFUL PARIS🌸. Merci Beaucoup Alfred SOMMIER TEAM!!

Google
Writing because we had an awful experience at this hotel. The fact that they can call this place five stars is mind boggling. Everything from the carpet, to the bathrooms, to the old musty smell and the service as well as the owner were sketchy. There was no AC in 100 degree weather - we were absolutely disgusted. Incredibly overpriced and we felt uncomfortable being there. Stay far away if you are a tourist expecting more from your stay in Paris.

Yelp
I had made a reservation to stay here a year ago for 7 days. I know people are always like "oh it's you!" When I finally show up to places because I'm such an avid planner lol. But this place was GREAT!! I didn't even know it was 5 stars! They're so nice and so helpful. Some do speak English if you need assistance with anything. The food is also great here for Breakfast! We did not have a chance to taste lunch nor dinner here, however I will say I'm sure it's super awesome. I hope to come back here again in the future! I had gotten the room with the balcony and it was sooooo worth it. I would certainly encourage anyone who stays here to do the same. Thanks so much for taking care of us!

Yelp
This is not my first trip to France and we are only in Paris for a couple days before heading south. This classic hotel is absolutely beautiful. When we arrived we walked down the corridor which brings you to the courtyard. We were warmly greeted at reception and check-in was a snap. Our bags were promptly delivered to our room and the room is just what I hoped. A beautiful solid wood floor, updated bath and separate toilet space. A soft inviting comfy bed in the main which shows off its classic look. Our breakfast was included and I'm looking forward to try the offerings from the restaurant.

Yelp
A wonderful hotel and terrific staff. Very friendly and helpful and in a great location.

Yelp
Checked into room 11. The room must be underneath a business in operation because the incessant foot traffic was non stop. I literally can tell you there was a person with high heels and another w/ men's shoes. This goes on for 2 hrs! I called the front desk, they are sold out and nothing they can do. How can you call this place a hotel if you cannot rest your head for a peaceful rest. Unacceptable. Check in only if you have Bose or earplugs.

Yelp
The staff here is absolutely amazing. From the front desk, concierge, the people that help w/ your luggage - they were all so accommodating and pleasant. They help with anything possible and with a lovely attitude. They really went out of their way to make us feel welcome and taken care of. The hotel is unique and feels very authentic, feels like you're in a piece of Parisian history. Thank you everyone at Alfred Sommier!

Yelp
My boyfriend and I stayed at this hotel for my birthday and we had the best time. The staff were so friendly from the moment we arrived. We received a tour and learned about the history of the building. Our room had high ceilings and a beautiful gold fireplace. The staff knew it was my birthday and left a sweet note and offered a free bottle of wine at the bar. They truly made our time in Paris so special and we will definitely stay here again in the future.

Yelp
A gem in Paris Alfred Sommier Hotel is a former mansion of famous French sugar refiners. A descendant has beautifully transformed it in a 5-star boutique hotel. The decoration is exquisite and plays on a clash between ancient and modern. The staff is extremely nice and helpful. I felt almost at home while staying in a so "chic" Parisian "hôtel particulier". I will never stay somewhere else in Paris.
