6 Luxurious Paris Mansions That You Can Actually Stay In

"In 1860, sugar tycoon Alfred Sommier purchased and restored the 17th-century castle Vaux-le-Vicomte and built a double Haussmannian mansion inside of a stone-flagged courtyard just steps from Place de la Madeleine. In 2019, Richard de Warren, a descendant of the Sommier family, introduced the refurbished property as an alternative to soulless big-box hotels. Belle Époque flourishes abound throughout the 80 rooms and public spaces in the form of herringbone parquet floors, marble fireplaces, gilded moldings, and a grand staircase flanked with caryatides. These, plus the leafy courtyard for breakfast and cocktails, are manna to Francophiles who love a whiff of old-world haute société."

A beautiful stay at Hotel Alfred Sommier! The hotel is gorgeous our room was very comfortable. The staff is so sweet and helpful. The neighborhood is quiet, peaceful and easy to navigate with a number of great restaurants nearby. It's also easy to reach the metro and is within walking distance of several landmark Paris locations. The owner, Richard, is often on site, as well and is very friendly and welcoming. A five-star experience overall!

Our room was superb. Very spacious, big windows, fireplace, chic and tactful. Comfortable beds and pillows. The location is excellent. The service could use some minor improvements, as it was not consistent and depended on who was on shift at the reception. Breakfast was ok. The building is wonderful and nice decorated. Overall quite pleased.

Our recent stay at Hôtel Alfred Sommier in Paris was absolutely wonderful. The hotel itself is stunning — full of charm, elegance, and classic Parisian character — but what truly made our experience unforgettable was the exceptional staff. A very special thank you to Maeva and Henri, who went above and beyond during our visit. Maeva was incredibly helpful and attentive to every one of our needs. From recommending fantastic dinner spots (each one better than the last!) to going the extra mile to help us locate a lost bag we had left in a taxi, she showed such genuine care and dedication. We truly felt looked after. This level of service is rare and made our trip even more memorable. We can’t wait to return, and we highly recommend Hôtel Alfred Sommier to anyone looking for a luxurious and welcoming stay in Paris.

I had a wonderful stay at Hotel Alfred Sommier. We stayed in the beautiful large apartment this past September and loved our room. The hotel is in a great location on a quiet and charming street. The staff were excellent and provided great service. They were accommodating and provided great restaurant recommendations. They always greeted us with a smile and offered assistance with ordering daily taxis. I enjoyed their breakfast with coffee and croissants. I will be back to this hotel because of their warm staff and charming hotel.

My experience at Hotel Alfred Sommier was absolutely wonderful. From the very beginning, Isaac from the reservations team was incredibly helpful and attentive, making the booking process smooth and easy. Upon arrival, Victoria welcomed me with a warm and professional check-in that immediately made me feel at home. The hotel itself is simply divine – elegant, luxurious, and full of charm. A true Parisian gem! I highly recommend booking directly with the hotel by email for an even more delightful experience.

We had a wonderful 5-night stay in September at Alfred Sommier to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary. If you're looking for quintessential Parisian flare, this charming property is for you. It's on a quiet street but walking distance to the Metro and popular spots. The room was comfortable and clean with a beautiful view. We did experience some noise from the hallway and our upstairs neighbours on a few nights thanks to the creaky hardwood floors but nothing unbearable. The staff was very friendly and a great help when we needed to book our train tickets for a day trip to Reims. Overall we were so glad to have selected this hotel and would love to return.

A lovely hotel in a gorgeous Parisian mid 19 century mansion in a very central location. Very helpful staff, especially Maeva and Anais. Richard, the CEO, a man with a very good sense of humour, showed us around and explained how they managed to combine the original features with modernity. We have two sons and had a suite with a separate room for the older and was not the usual box but quite spacious for the purpose.

If I could give this hotel no stars I would! A compete scam and the worse of what we expect from a hotel stay! I’m not usually someone who writes reviews, but I felt I had to after witnessing what happened to my friend Mathilde at Hotel Alfred Sommier. I was with her for much of her stay and saw firsthand the issues she described in her own very detailed review. She also shared her experience on social media, where other people reacted and shared similar concerns. Yet, instead of listening and reflecting, the hotel keeps replying to Google reviews by basically saying that guests are lying or “not telling the truth.” For a so-called luxury hotel, I find this attitude extremely unprofessional and disrespectful and quite frankly scam! Mistakes can happen anywhere, but repeatedly dismissing customers’ experiences and suggesting they’re dishonest is a huge red flag. It’s quite strange that so many people would supposedly be “lying” about similar problems, while the hotel refuses to take any real responsibility but also gaslighting the customer to this extent. Personally, after seeing how my friend was treated and how the hotel handles criticism, I would not feel comfortable staying here, and I wouldn’t recommend it to others. Stay away from this hotel and spend your money elsewhere!

Yelp
I had made a reservation to stay here a year ago for 7 days. I know people are always like "oh it's you!" When I finally show up to places because I'm such an avid planner lol. But this place was GREAT!! I didn't even know it was 5 stars! They're so nice and so helpful. Some do speak English if you need assistance with anything. The food is also great here for Breakfast! We did not have a chance to taste lunch nor dinner here, however I will say I'm sure it's super awesome. I hope to come back here again in the future! I had gotten the room with the balcony and it was sooooo worth it. I would certainly encourage anyone who stays here to do the same. Thanks so much for taking care of us!

Yelp
This is not my first trip to France and we are only in Paris for a couple days before heading south. This classic hotel is absolutely beautiful. When we arrived we walked down the corridor which brings you to the courtyard. We were warmly greeted at reception and check-in was a snap. Our bags were promptly delivered to our room and the room is just what I hoped. A beautiful solid wood floor, updated bath and separate toilet space. A soft inviting comfy bed in the main which shows off its classic look. Our breakfast was included and I'm looking forward to try the offerings from the restaurant.

Yelp
A wonderful hotel and terrific staff. Very friendly and helpful and in a great location.

Yelp
Checked into room 11. The room must be underneath a business in operation because the incessant foot traffic was non stop. I literally can tell you there was a person with high heels and another w/ men's shoes. This goes on for 2 hrs! I called the front desk, they are sold out and nothing they can do. How can you call this place a hotel if you cannot rest your head for a peaceful rest. Unacceptable. Check in only if you have Bose or earplugs.

Yelp
The staff here is absolutely amazing. From the front desk, concierge, the people that help w/ your luggage - they were all so accommodating and pleasant. They help with anything possible and with a lovely attitude. They really went out of their way to make us feel welcome and taken care of. The hotel is unique and feels very authentic, feels like you're in a piece of Parisian history. Thank you everyone at Alfred Sommier!

Yelp
My boyfriend and I stayed at this hotel for my birthday and we had the best time. The staff were so friendly from the moment we arrived. We received a tour and learned about the history of the building. Our room had high ceilings and a beautiful gold fireplace. The staff knew it was my birthday and left a sweet note and offered a free bottle of wine at the bar. They truly made our time in Paris so special and we will definitely stay here again in the future.

Yelp
A gem in Paris Alfred Sommier Hotel is a former mansion of famous French sugar refiners. A descendant has beautifully transformed it in a 5-star boutique hotel. The decoration is exquisite and plays on a clash between ancient and modern. The staff is extremely nice and helpful. I felt almost at home while staying in a so "chic" Parisian "hôtel particulier". I will never stay somewhere else in Paris.
