Avoid The Alpenclub at Engelberg at all costs.||||We had a horrendous experience, and the manager is a person who lacks integrity and a moral compass.||||The clever photography you see when booking will have you believe that you are staying in a nice room, which is far from the case when you arrive.||||The older part of the hotel has beautiful character, and really is a gem, however the management hide behind this to offer you poor facilities. We encountered an unclean and smelly room with an horrendously uncomfortable bed stained with goodness knows what. They also need to update the draughty windows and hazardous electrical issues whereby we encountered exposed wires.||||We were told at reception that someone would be on hand all night, and it's true, the same manager who greeted us was at the bar drinking with his friends and causing an awful disturbance, however he would not answer our calls or messages until booking.com stepped in. It makes sense that he was talking fast and speaking over us, wiping his nose! His actions were not that of a sober man.||||We could have leaned out of the window and touched the bar terrace, we were that close to it. I have videos of the manager and his friends laughing, breaking glass, and shouting at long passed midnight, and remember, the windows allow through all of that sound.||||The manager lied to booking.com many times, stating that everyone had gone home, whilst we were standing in the window watching him continue to pour drinks for himself and his friends. We had to submit video evidence for our complaint to be realised. ||||It is clear that the experience of his guests matter less to him than his own enjoyment, or the enjoyment of the locals. Once he has your money, you matter not to him.||||What followed was false promises that we would have the issue resolved at breakfast, where the manager was no where to be seen, and the breakfast was poor, and one which could not meet our dietary requirements. (Despite giving prior notice of allergies!)||||The property have continued to evade responsibility, refusing to make any offer of recompense. ||||We can see through other reviews that this hotel has an answer for everything, and will not accept responsibility for their shortcomings. If you take the gamble and stay here, I just hope that everything goes smoothly and you encounter no issues.||||Don't be fooled by the photography, the place looks nothing like it does online. I'd go so far as to say these people are scammers.||||Swiss hospitality used to stand for a lot, and that certainly was the case at the seven other houses we stayed in on our trip. The Alpenclub at Engelberg lets Switzerland down and brings shame to the Swiss hotel industry.
