The problem with this restaurant is the really rude staff. We walked in via the hotel entrance so the interior of the restaurant was empty. I see 2 guys working there and neither of them greeted us. I asked one if they were open (since it was late, around 3:30pm) and the entire restaurant looked empty. The guy says to me sarcastically in a not-so-nice tone "I would hope so" and then turned away, not asking if I would like a table. This is the worst welcome I have ever received at a restaurant. It felt like I was intruding and bothering them by being a customer. This restaurant was recommended as having a really nice view. I don't know if it's where they seated me, but I could only see directly to the mountain face so it didn't exactly blow me away. As for the food: the 14 francs cauliflower soup was tasteless, the rosti was really good, the sausage was below average. Pricing is expensive as usual for Switzerland. Waiter also forgot an item for our order and when we reminded him, again it was the same attitude of making us feel like we are disturbing him. Please do not work in hospitality if you hate customers.

Had lunch here - view cannot be beat. Have eaten here a few times over multiple trips. Always food service, good food. Special of the day was a pastrami sandwich - quite unusual for the region so tried that. Quite good.

We had a wonderful late lunch experience here - kitchen is open throughout the afternoon. The food was outstanding and the atmosphere was so nice and welcoming. Also the view from the terrace is great. Special thanks to Ms Katarzyna for her great food recommendations and making us feel so welcome and comfortable

We chanced upon this hotel with a restaurant and we didn’t regret it. We were accommodated with the fries even though they aren’t serving it yet. The staff is amazing recommending the best draft beer. She took photos of us as well, she’s so nice! We’ll definitely be back! Fries were superb btw.

We always have a good meal with amazing view at this restaurant. Nice traditional Swiss menu with some interesting additions. My mum loved the salmon and potato soup and I really enjoyed the alplermagrone.

I did a lot of research before settling on Hotel Alpenruh for our Murren stay. Everything is incredibly expensive in Switzerland, so the research mattered. This is why I want to write an honest review. Unfortunately, I was disappointed in this hotel. First, the positives - the staff were very friendly and welcoming, the rooms were clean (but small) and of course the views are incredible. The negatives: there is very loud construction happening right in front of/next to the hotel every day that started at 7am (some days even before!), and I mean VERY LOUD construction. Was it a jack hammer??? It was unbelievable. I understand that that may be out of their control, but a warning or a disclaimer on their web site or when we checked in would have managed expectations. Frankly, provided ear plugs would have been nice! For the outrageous amount of money we had to pay for this hotel, it's was nuts that we weren't able to sleep well and couldn't enjoy our hotel during daylight hours. Second, the breakfast was really not good. We all felt that it seemed like they were doing the absolute minimun. On some mornings they ran out of yogurt and most bread at 8am and it wasn't replenished. They had cut up fruit in a bowl that looked like it was just trotted out day after day (was not fresh). This is something they could add a little bit more effort to and it would make a huge difference. Lastly, the hotel should really invest in room darkening shades for a good night's sleep. This is a minimal thing they can do to make the experience much mroe restful, especially when there is loud construction going on during daylight hours. Overall, although the staff were kind, I regret having chosen Hotel Alpenruh.

Right next to the cable car, with an amazing view from the balcony of the big 3 beautiful mountains (and many more), the hang gliders, and the valley below. Marco and Ava are friendly, gracious hosts, not to mention Pampers, the security guard cat. Active bar/restaurant with many locals — this is the place in Murren that stays open during the slow season as well as the nearby local well-stocked Coop (Market). The walk to and from Gimmelwald starts right outside the hotel and is not to be missed. We’ll recommend Hotel Alpenruh to anyone asking about places to stay in Murren.

During our trip to Switzerland, our meal at Hotel Alpenruh was one of our favorites. After completing the Northface trail, we saw a sign advertising the restaurant here, and decided to check out the menu. We had originally planned to go to a restaurant at the other side of Mürren, but decided to give this place a try instead. We were quite tired from the hike, so it was nice that this restaurant was right by the gondola station on the way back into town. My husband and I each ordered the schnitzel, my dad ordered the pastrami, and my mom ordered a salad. Everything was delicious, we cleared all of the plates. I definitely recommend the Rugen Brau beer as well, this was also my favorite beer I had in Switzerland. The service was great, and we got our food pretty fast. Everything was so yummy, we also decided to get dessert. My husband and I ordered scoops of ice cream, and I definitely recommend to order the caramel ice cream—so good. I recommend stopping here for a meal after completing the Northface Trail, we are glad we did.

Yelp
Stayed in May 2024: Hotel is in a stunning location and very conveniently located just steps away from the Schilthorn cable car station. There's an attached restaurant, and if you are arriving after the narrow official check-in window, there's an option to check in with the restaurant staff. Nice that they're flexible! Staff was very friendly and the rooms are bigger than what the photos show! We had a room that featured the striking views of the mountains from our balconies. Our rooms had plenty of seating and also tables available which was helpful to utilize the space. It was always comfortable in the room even though there was no temperature control, and there's always the option to open the window for some Alpine mountain air. Our hair dryer wasn't working and the wifi was spotty (if on, very fast) but we lived. The breakfast options sometimes ran out of food early (esp for popular items like boiled egg or plain yogurt) and the walls are a little thin, but otherwise a very convenient and beautiful stay!

Yelp
Cute little hotel right by the lift. Very nice modern rooms. A little elevator and small stairs. Newly renovated rooms, very clean. Views are spectacular, unfortunately by the time I took pictures the winter storm rolled in. Everything is white up here. We also ate at the restaurant. Very delicious food, fast service and large portions.

Yelp
We stayed at Alpenruh in July, so we almost always had unobstructed views of Eiger, Munch and Jungfrau every morning. Seeing the gliders take off from the grassy patch on the mountainside in the evenings didn't hurt either. Clean, cozy rooms with comfy beds. What tilted our decision toward Alpenruh vs the other choices was the free breakfast voucher offered at the top of Schilthorn in Piz Glorida. I'm very happy with that decision as it was a fantastic experience, to see all the way to Interlaken while sitting on a chair sipping coffee. The hotel staff were helpful and Ferdinand is an entertaining and friendly host. The breakfast was good, but the flies were a bit annoying. So maybe put up an electric fly killer? There was one complaint though: after a long day of hiking, we came home to take a shower but by the time it was my turn (I'm glad my wife and son were already done), the water started to get too cold. Called front desk, they came and checked the shower, and promised it will be fixed soon. Still no hot water after a while, and since nobody was at reception after 6, I just skipped the shower for that night (didn't bother to call the emergency number). No big deal. But things didn't improve in the morning. I told the front desk and was told the boiler had broken last night, nobody else had hot water, and it will be fixed immediately. OK, things happen. But again, no hot water in the afternoon! This was too much, and after another complaint, I guess we got lucky and it was fixed. I understand things can break, but I think a hotel in the mountains should have a pretty robust hot water system, and perhaps a backup boiler? I don't know if this was a factor or not, but we were offered a free luggage drop (~50 CHF value?) to the Murren BLM when we checked out, which saved us a Stechelberg bus transfer when going back to Interlaken. So that was nice. I would stay at Alpenruh again, but I'll consider the other options more carefully now that I have seen Piz Gloria.

Yelp
Ferdinand is the nicest man we've met in Europe! Very helpful, very accommodating. The hotel is beautiful and the first one off the gondola. The room was very nice and the breakfast overlooking the alps, amazing. Fantastic experience! Would love to go back to ski!
