Hotel Alpha Fribourg: A Comfortable Stay with Exceptional Service
Hotel Alpha in Fribourg offers a very good location, especially if you're looking to be close to the train station and the city center. Access to the hotel is well-secured, and the fact that between 9:00 PM and 6:00 AM, access is only possible with a room key is a good touch that adds to guest security.
The staff at Hotel Alpha are incredibly attentive. A special shout-out goes to Rada, who was making coffee and hosting breakfast on the first day. She was very polite and attentive, ensuring a pleasant start to the day. Sabrina from reception was also a star. As a Brit, I brought my own teabags, only to realise there was no kettle in my room. Sabrina promptly organised a kettle and even some milk/crema for my tea – excellent service!
The breakfast was good, scoring an 8 out of 10. While the quality was there, a larger selection of items would have been appreciated.
On the downside, the lack of air conditioning was a significant issue, particularly as the room temperature reached a scorching 36 degrees centigrade (96.8 Fahrenheit). A fridge in the room would also have been ideal for keeping water and other drinks cold, especially given the heat.
Another point for improvement is the hotel's email communication after booking. Before I booked, my queries were answered right away. However, once I had booked (with the intention of paying upon arrival), I sent a couple of emails closer to my travel date and unfortunately received no reply, which was disappointing.
In summary, I would recommend Hotel Alpha if you prioritise being close to the city center and the train station. While there are other accommodation options in Fribourg depending on your budget, I was overall happy with the service received. The hotel was recommended by the organisers of the conference I attended, and despite some minor drawbacks, I would reconsider staying here again in the near future.
