This is a very pleasant hotel on the outskirts of the village, about a ten minute walk from the centre. My husband and I stayed here on the last night of our Via Alpina trek and had a lovely stay. We had a beautiful, large room with old carved furniture and a nice balcony overlooking the mountains. Breakfast was good and we had fried eggs but only because we asked - there is no sign out saying they were available. We ate out at the Indian restaurant in the village centre as we wanted to experience the centre of Gstaad. Initially we wondered why we were at a hotel out of town (our trek company booked it) but having seen the astronomic prices of the hotels in the centre we quickly realised that this is a very good value hotel indeed. There is a bus stop a few yards from the hotel and the bus takes you into the centre or to the railway station so there was no problem with transport, especially on our final day when we had to get ourselves and our luggage back to Zurich. Would definitely recommend this hotel for value in Gstaad.

I love this Hotel! I come here year in and year out mainly to attend the Menuhin Festival of classical music. From the railway station I walk through Gstaad, at a relaxed pace, and then along the Gsteigstrasse to find this hotel at the foot of the hills and mountains, in a wonderful and green setting, by the road. Overall it takes me around 15-20 min. The hotel is a jewell with very clean rooms, like the inside a cristal glass, with white and fluffy bed sheets like the first snow, in a Swiss authentic style. The breakfast is tasty and is included in the price. The owner and service are to the image of the hotel, excellent and generous.

We stayed at the Alphorn this last, rainy weekend. The hotel was perfect - a short walk to the Wispile gondola and to the town centre. Dinner was perfect on the terrace and breakfasts had great variety of European type fare. Yes, there were flies in the breakfast room but the hotel is surrounded by cattle pasture lands and a barn about 200 metres away. We went to 4 star restaurant for dinner the second night and they also had flies, so get over it!! ||The rooms were a perfect design with lots of storage and beds were comfy with reading lights. ||Claudia, the owner, was very accommodating with the grandkids and provided us with a late checkout. ||We will definitely return for a winter ski holiday.

As soon as we arrived in the hotel , started a loud noise of a drill machine in the apartment above us. And it continues the morning after. It was impossible to stay in the room. The hotel should be closed if they want to do renovation work or they should not make the apartments in the same area available to guests. It was such a lack of respect, and the answer that we received from the receptionist was that they can’t do anything. We spent 20 days traveling around Switzerland and it was the first time that we faced such a situation!!! Besides all of that the hotel is far away from everything; the lovely downtown of Gstaad is 2 km away. The accommodation is medium and the towels are old. The breakfast is the poorest that we have had in Switzerland. I don’t recommend this hotel to anyone.

A stone throw away from the cable car and the city centre, this hotel has a warmth to it.|It feels like being in a family and the service is very detailed.|There is a front terrace, a breakfast bar and a restaurant all surrounded by the beautiful mountains in Gstaad

Despite its size, the Alphorn has a boutique-feel about it. It is a bit outside of Gstaad’s center but close to several cable cars to enjoy the surrounding mountains.|The hotel director is at the reception herself and gave a warm welcome and the same friendliness applies to the entire staff. The real tour de force however is the excellent restaurant, making it unnecessary to venture into town for food. Would definitely consider returning here if in Gstaad again.

We stayed only for one night. ||||Good: very close to the ski area. So close and so covenient. ||Soundproof windows, no outdoor noise bothered us.||Tasty pizza. ||||Okay: rather poor, although filling continental breakfast. Bread always fresh. ||||Room appeared to be clean at a first sight. At a more careful look, it was dusty. Bottle cork left under bed. ||||Bad: continuous noise during the night, we couldn't find the source. ||||Light from outside coming through flimsy window courtains. ||||Heating elements in the room did not work. They worked in the bathroom though, so we kept the bathroom door open all night long. ||||Bathroom looked tired, bits of mold, old fixtures etc. We would also hear toilet running from other room bathrooms. ||||Small room, but perhaps we got the cheapest one. I think other rooms were bigger. ||||Weird pillows. Big, soft, with lumps. ||||Weed smell in the corridor. Most probably tourists. Very unpleasant. ||||No water bottles. Message in the room, next to a cork opener, encouraging guests to drink from the bathroom faucet. For free. :) ||||Lots of big, hairy dogs in the hotel - wondering if there are special rooms for people with animals. ||||Worse: terrible attitude of the host (lady). She was efficient but not friendly at all. She barely greeted us when we came and didn't bother to say good bye when we left or to ask if everything was okay during our stay. Her only question was if we used the minibar. We did not feel welcome. On the other hand, we didn't ask for anything, maybe she would have been helpful. ||||Spa area: that was not a real spa. Cramped, old room. Sauna is available for free. For the rest, one has to pay/ use some weird tokens. Relaxation room is smaller than a studio kitchen. 2 small sitting chairs. Ugly, old, dirty, unwelcoming. ||||Free sauna comes with all kind of surprises: like men coming in and taking all their clothes off and relaxing (naked) in front of unknown women and children. That was beyond disgusting. ||||We might return, not for the sauna and not for all those other okay, bad, and worse things. Location and price are good, for 1 night in expensive Gstaad.
