I was here a few years back pre covid Back then there was a manned reception. This time I arrived later in the evening. No manned reception.. many phone calls to get code to enter hotel/room. As somebody with mobility issues being stood outside with chairs chained together and so impossible to sit on , in rain for 40 plus minutes was not fun. Once inside was fine.. lovely room etc.

We give three stars because we find the quality-price ratio not well balanced. We paid 80€ for one night on a Friday. The room was clean but too small. On top of that, there were no toiletteries, nor coffee or tea bags. We were really provided for just basic needs. On the other hand, the receptionist was nice and friendly, and the position of the hotel was perfect, very central.

The location is exceptional, especially if visiting the Christmas Markets. There is no elevator, but the stairs are not steep. The internet is excellent, the building is charming, my single room had 2 large windows, the bedside lighting is good with an extra electrical outlet, and the bedside table has a shelf underneath. The bathroom has classic black and white tiles. There was a very large closet that would have been better if part of it had been sectioned into shelving (cubbies). There were some issues that would prevent this hotel from being my first choice, however. There were only 8 TV channels, no minibar, no radio (next time I would bring a radio or external speaker for my phone), no means of making tea or coffee (next time I would bring something of my own), and the desk staff keep irregular hours. The desk staff do have an electric kettle and will heat water for you, but you have to catch them when they are there. If you are looking for a charming place to stay and can live with the limitations, the Alt Bamberg is a safe bet. If street noise bothers you, avoid a room on the front as there is a bar across across the street and it is very noisy on Friday and Saturday nights. Other nights were not a problem and I enjoyed the view from the front otherwise.

Fantastic location for the old town, nice staff. Bare minimum room with basic, clean facilities. I had a single bed with own toilet and wash basin but a shared shower down the hall. Never had to wait for a shower and it was obviously cleaned daily and perhaps throughout the day. Small rooms with purpose. Enjoyed a breakfast at the hotel for an extra €7 - usual continental stuff - boiled eggs, cheese, hams, salads, fruits, breads, coffees and tea. Frankly, if you like two cups of coffee to get you going, €7 is worth it. ||||Loved the location - it's about a mile's walk (20mins) from Bamberg's train station and a really brilliant spot for walking the old town. Lots of window-shopping at night as well - several arty window shop displays in the area, plus a few restaurants, pubs, etc, within 10 minutes' walking distance. I'd also recommend the region's specialty of roasted shoulder pork alongside a chunk of sauerkraut. Yum!||||Would stay at the hotel again - it is very basic and clean with an excellent old town location.

Very comfortable single room with private bath. Plenty of space in room. Hotel location is in a quiet location in the historic district, within walking distance to most everything. Closest parking is 5 minute walk at Parkhaus Zentrum-Sud. It's tricky finding hotel by car, but you 'can' drop luggage off at hotel, and then park. If you are coming to Bamberg because you love beer, then you will not be disappointed, but please be aware, some of the better breweries close on Sunday and Mondays, and during the off season, even more close. I missed out on some great breweries because I was not aware of this. First time I visited Bamberg, it was in the middle of the summer, so everything was open. This time, was a last minute trip in early September, and I didn't have the time to properly research. Still a great trip anyway. Very underrated city.||||Shower in the single room, was "EXTREMELY" small and narrow. Also, breakfast was not as good as what other hotels offer. Breakfast price is reasonable, but limited selections.

Location can't be beaten. The lodgings are basic and do the job well. A few things could be improved but its smally and comfortable.

Bamberg was on our way from Bavaria to Hesse, and we had not been there before, so I had to find a place to stay close to the old center. The Old Bamberg hotel could not have a better location: a stone's throw to the old Town Hall and a nice walk to the Cathedral. The river is two blocks away, with a bridge right at the end of the street.||||As hotels go this is a basic place, our room was small but clean, with a combined bathroom/toilet. The beds were OK. The view was to the inner yard which gave us a quiet night. There is no lift so consider this when choosing the room. ||||The breakfast was basic, no frills but nothing was missing either.||||We arrived in the afternoon, and the hotel had informed us that there is no reception between 13.00 and evening, so they gave us a code to a key-box. That worked well, but we had a problem finding the hotel in the first place. Arriving with a rental car, we had fed the address of the hotel to the navigator, and all was fine until the last moment when we were supposed to turn in to the street where the hotel is located. The entrance of the lane was blocked by a steel post!|||| After taking out the paper map I found the route from the other direction along many narrow streets to the hotel. When I told to the reception lady about this she shrugged her shoulders: "that way has been blocked for several years". It might be a good idea to alert arriving customers to the fact that the street address is not enough to find the hotel by car.||||Parking is not possible near the hotel but there is a parking garage 500 m away where 24 hours costs 12 Eur, not bad.

Vacationed with my daughter to Bamberg and stayed here. It's on a small quiet side street but still close to the Marktplatz. The rooms was comfortable and very clean. Tiny bathroom. They have a nice breakfast and while we didn't eat there, other guests said the Poseidon restaurant in the hotel was very good.
