The hotels in Switzerland are more expensive than elsewhere, but I paid less for a 4star in Bastogne Belgium.|So no airconditioning, no fridge, shower with curtain, no shelves in bathroom, small room. But very good breakfast between the old folks (breakfast is served in rich old folks home) and free parking in garage. And in old |part of Sankt Gallen.

This place is a few hotel-style rooms on the periphery of an old-aged care center. Good idea, overall, but the service is minimal, which proved particularly challenging for us when we arrived on a Sunday evening (front desk only open 9:30 am to 11:30 am, but we didn't know that). Also problematic given the day/time of our arrival was that there were no working elevators from the underground parking and we had rather heavy bags.||||But once we got checked in, things were fine. The room was compact but comfortable enough. Comfortable beds and good ventilation. Disappointed not to have a fridge, though.||||The location was handy to walk into the enter of the city for dinner, too.||||The breakfast, served in the residents' dining room, was excellent. Lots of healthy, yummy choices and delicious coffee. The lady serving the coffee spoke no English, so just spoke to us in German as if we could understand. She was adorable! We also had a nice conversation with one of the residents who spoke English and wanted to chat a bit. It ended our stay on a high note.

We spent one night here while visiting St. Gallen and its unusual library. Our room (#7) was small by US standards with two twin beds, closet with a few hangers, luggage bench, desk, chair (used for our second piece of luggage), bed lights and one floor lamp. The shower had excellent hot water, a noisy fan/light which we had to turn off at night, liquid soap, lotion, tissues, a set of two very large bath towels, medium towels, and washcloths. The dining room is open for breakfast and lunch, not dinner. The hotel is within a 5 - 10 minute walk to the center of old town St. Gallen with restaurants, shops, and other sites. Parking under the hotel is European tight but manageable with careful driving. Except for the bathroom fan/light, the room was quiet. WIfi was fine. The buffet breakfast included fruits, cheeses, salmon, beef, ham, breads and rolls. Other clients seemed to be single travelers or business people. ||We would stay here again.

Stayed for a couple of nights in September of 2016, this was my last place of stay on a trip to Europe. The location of the hotel is great, right across the marketplatz. Easily accessible by the St. Gallen Railway station. The room itself, like other reviews have mentioned, was small, but it had modern sophisticated lighting which set the ambiance right. The bathroom was just about what is required. I was a bit disappointed that there was no kettle or tea/coffee in the room. The room lacked air-con which was needed after long walks in the city. Windows, large enough, when opened looked directly over the gardens. But along with that came mosquitoes which forced us to shut the windows back. All in all, it is a great place to stay and roam around a lovely canton of Switzerland.

I've stayed at this hotel on several different occasions. Breakfast is quite (Swiss) excellent. The room is typical size for a European (not "International") hotel. The room has every modern convenience. Lift between hotel and underground parking made for safe entry after dark for a person traveling alone. I can't imagine staying anywhere else when I am again in St. Gallen. My stay was May 2017, but dropdown didn't offer that choice.

Hotel am Spisertor is conveniently located in down-town St. Gallen directly at the beginning of the pedestrian zone. Despite of its location, very quiet at night allowing for sleeping with open window without ear plugs. ||The hotel is part of the Kursana Residence which is a retirement home. The hotel is in a separate wing - the restaurant (breakfast) is used jointly. ||Due to this fact, limited "hotel facilities" like no bar; but you don't need that due to the excellent location. ||Rooms are small but clean and convenient. Clean bathrooms with walk-in shower. ||Limited breakfast offering but all you need and excellent quality. ||Very good value for money. Another "plus" is the complementary parking in the residence's parking lot.

Stayed one evening and all was certainly fine. Business stay, so the main need was only a bed. Room slightly small to work in during the evening as narrow desk, but it was only an evening. Clean, simple, straightforward. Free parking was large attraction for me. Perfectly located for walking the old city. Breakfast fine, above average.

This is a small hotel - just 12 rooms incorporated into an exclusive retirement home.||So do not be surprised if you are surrounded by elderly people during breakfast.||Rooms are modern but basic and most of all - there is no outside noise. Location is perfect - just a few steps to the historic center of St. Gallen. Staff and management are very friendly and helpfull.
