We spent Christmas week at Hotel am Viktualienmarkt and had the best time with our daughters and their spouses! Breakfast was great every morning and the staff was friendly and accommodating. My son-in-law especially loved the lobby’s beer vending machine!

Stayed at this hotel with some family members while we’re on vacation in Munich. We were amazed by how close this hotel was to the Marienplatz and in turn the subway system. The rooms in the hotel were very cozy and the breakfast offered in the morning was both filling a delicious. Service as well was excellent. A nice accommodation on the final days of our Alpine vacation.

Location, Location, and Location. This hotel is in a terrific location near the Viktualienmarkt. Easy access to Marienplatz and the Old town, Hofbrau house, and the preferred U-Bahn station of Fraunhoferstrasse. The hosts are wonderful and full of useful knowledge for your time in Bavaria. The continental breakfast has a good variety of food, especially the tasty Salami. More meat less fat the US kind, so good along with the fresh rolls and pastries. Now for the not so good. The beds was one of the worst beds we've slept in. Rock hard and we got no sleep, if you like that type of bed you'll be fine. As for us, we lacked sleep every night. Because you're so near the market, the crowd is a little livelier, and in actuality we were usally fine with that, just an FYI. A recommendation I'd make for the hosts is to install quality ceiling fans for helping with the air movement in the room, we can see how this might be more useful in the summer months without AC. Bottom line we would stay here, especially if the bed comfort were to improve.

I rarely give 3 star reviews but that seems appropriate for this property. This is an old hotel without any charm or history. However the location can’t be beat. We were disappointed that there were no coffee/tea/hot water makers in room and NO coffee/tea service in lobby. First impressions are important and the old dark and dirty staircase up to our floor had unwelcoming feel as did the narrow and dark hallways with old stained carpets. The rooms were ok. Beds comfortable and bathroom good. No AC so glad to have fan in room to move air around. Our room (111) did not have a safe (front desk said it was broken). The included breakfast was good except it was the only one on our three week journey without any “hot” offerings. As mentioned location can’t be beat. In old town and next to huge market square with dozens of shops. Also very neat Old City Hall and is famous glockenspiel. All in all this hotel is ok with great location but when next in Munich we’ll look around for something a little more modern.

Like cigarettes and nuclear waste it seems sensible to have an official warning sign on hotels of, shall we say, a certain type.||Let me explain the type.||The sort of hotel that has no toiletries, tea or coffee making facilities in the rooms. ||The sort of hotel that employs a hair-trigger timing on corridor lighting.||The sort of hotel with towels woven from the testicle hairs of crazed rhinoceroses.||The sort of hotel where the lift is tiny. ||The sort of hotel which just looks run down, unloved and seedy.||Cutting a long story short, welcome to the Hotel am Viktualienmarkt.||I cant say that it's cheap and nasty as it's not cheap at all.||This is an official warning... AVOID.

This hotel offers a comfortable and convenient stay near Munich's Viktualienmarkt and Marienplatz. The friendly staff, clean rooms, and breakfast provide a good stay! It's an ideal choice for families exploring Munich.|Overall very happy with our stay.

A pick of the Rick Steves tour, hotel is centrally located in the Old City of Munich. Room was small, but clean and comfortable. Bathroom was a tight squeeze. Shower had good water temperature and flow but pooled at your feet. Breakfast was limited but covered most choices. Elevator is painfully small - one person with two bags. But you are in Munich and you should be exploring the city and not in your room.

We stayed in the Garden house which is separate from the hotel but can be accessed through the lobby or through a completely separate door (must be used after 9pm). Not good for anyone with mobility issues.|Upstairs it has 1 bedroom and a living room that has a sofa double bed, a kitchenette and dining area that has a couch that can be used as a bed if you're really stuck downstairs. The bathroom is downstairs also but is very small and it's hard to get in and out of the shower.|The house is adequate, cozy upstairs and the sofa bed is very comfortable for 2 people. TV only has German channels. But the stairs are very steep and not suitable for the elderly, same for the shower.|The location of the hotel is brilliant and the staff are so friendly, breakfast is very good too.|I wouldn't stay in the garden house again and not having seen the bedrooms it's hard to say if I'd stay again in the hotel but the location, staff and food is very good.

Yelp
Basic hotel in a great area that is walkable to all you want to see that serves a decent breakfast in the morning pretty much sums up this hotel. Is it lux? No. But the water pressure is good, the beds are comfortable, the wifi works and I loved that the window opened so I could get fresh air at night. The breakfast is meats, cheese, rolls, yogurt, cereals, etc. It was a delight to go down in the morning and enjoy the fare with a cup of coffee. There is a small elevator (2 people max) that will get you between the floors or you can go up and down the staircase in the back. If you plan to arrive after 9pm, you need to call the hotel before that time so that they know you are coming and will give you instructions. We had no problem as we arrived in the afternoon, but others in our group got to the hotel late and the door was locked and the "emergency number" on the door was not picked up. Not a great start to your vacation so let them know if you will be late as this is a small hotel and not open 24/7. Not fancy but you can't beat the location!

Yelp
The Hotel am 'Vikki', as those in-the-know refer to the market, is a budget hotel dressed up in a slightly less shabby suit then one would normally associate with the term 'budget'. The surrounding area: *extremely centrally located in the Altstadt; the Marienplatz, 'Vikki' and the Sendlinger Tor Strasse are all the immediate area. *if you're a jogger, then you'll enjoy knowing that the Isar, along which one may run, is about a five minute jog from the hotel. *good grub and coffee all fairly close by: http://www.yelp.com/biz/trachtenvogl-m%C3%BCnchen http://www.yelp.com/biz/aroma-kaffeebar-m%C3%BCnchen#query:Trachtenvogl The above fare is just a small sampling, btw. The hotel itself: *room was fairly compact, tidy and clean, but possessed seemingly little insulation. We could hear 'klar und deutlich' any and all footfall, passing conversation and the like through our hotel room door. *no wee creams or soaps which with to fill your toiletries bag. ;) The dual-purpose, liquid soap in the shower was suspiciously called 'top line'. The hubs wasn't keen on using it, so we bought some cheap-o, German shampoo and used that instead. *fairly friendly staff; one of whom, a young woman, helpfully gave us directions to this and that, but, upon asking her about Schumann's in the Odeonplatz, she very honestly said that she doesn't frequent the area as it's way out of her price range. I get where she's coming from, but I don't think I would have mentioned that bit to visitors unencumbered, seemingly, by price restrictions to the degree that she is. *cute-looking breakfast area; we repeatedly went to Trachtenvogl for brekkie, so I can't tell you if the 7 Euro grub is good, but I'd imagine it's fine. I think if we were to score the 'appartement' on the top floor to stay in, then I'd definitely return to Hotel am Vikki.
