17 Best Hotels in Berlin, From Artsy Boutiques to a Transformed Bathhouse | Condé Nast Traveler

"The newest in the hip German mini-chain Amano Group, the AMO opened in June 2019 in a converted office building. Turn off bustling Friedrichstrasse and walk through a small courtyard, where you’ll spot a glass elevator. One level down you’ll step into an underground lobby—the first of its kind in Berlin—a sprawling, thoroughly glam space outfitted with plush velvet seating, brass-accented glass tables, shelves of art tomes, and a groovy, gold-tiled gas fireplace. The breakfast area is behind heavy velvet curtains off of the lobby, and the bar is tucked around the corner." - Jennifer Ceaser

Hotel AMO by Amano

"Why did this hotel catch your attention? What's the vibe?Turn off bustling Friedrichstrasse and walk through a small courtyard, where you’ll spot a glass elevator emblazoned with AMO. One level down you’ll step into an underground lobby—the first of its kind in Berlin—a sprawling, thoroughly glam space outfitted in plush velvet seating, brass-accented glass tables, shelves of art tomes, and a groovy, gold-tiled gas fireplace. The breakfast area is behind heavy velvet curtains off of the lobby, and the bar is tucked around the corner. What's the backstory? The newest in the hip German mini-chain Amano Group, the AMO opened in June 2019 in a converted office building. The boutique brand bills itself as affordable luxury coupled with a cool bar scene, and AMO delivers on both fronts. Tell us all about the accommodations. Any tips on what to book?Spread across five floors, the 93 rooms range from a cozy Economy (measuring around 150 square feet) to the 300-square-foot Superior. All are similarly decorated, with sleek dark-wood floors, deep blue velvet headboards and furnishings, and understated brass accents. Depending on the category, rooms have two twin beds or queens or kings; bathrooms, decorated with chic white subway tiles, are remarkably large and feature cavernous walk-in showers. Best are rooms on the top floor, which feature high ceilings and large skylights with shades that open and close at the touch of a button. Amenities are limited—there is no minibar or full room service—but an in-room tablet lets you order drinks and snacks, book a table in the hotel group’s restaurants, and explore area tourist attractions. Is there a charge for Wi-Fi?Wi-Fi is free. Drinking and dining—what are we looking at?Breakfast (not included) is a buffet with a hearty spread of meats and cheeses. As it’s underground, there’s very little natural light, but if the weather allows, enjoy it al fresco in the charming cobblestone courtyard. Lunch and dinner are next door at the lively Joseph. The Middle Eastern–inflected menu includes meat and veggie skewers, grilled merguez with hummus, and salmon in a falafel crust. The weekly lunch special, gently priced at 12 euro for two courses or 14.50 euro with dessert, is popular with locals. And the service? There's no queueing up in the lobby if you use mobile check-in; you can do away with key cards by downloading a digital smart key. The hotel can arrange for you to rent e-bikes and scooters. What type of travelers will you find here?Young, hip, mainly European guests looking for an affordable, stylish stay. What about the neighborhood? Does the hotel fit in, make itself part of the scene?Smack-dab in the heart of Mitte and surrounded by trendy bars, restaurants, cafes, and shopping, the hotel doesn’t get any better, location-wise. Any other hotel features worth noting? The crowning glory at AMO is its bar: a narrow, dimly lit, seductive space dominated by gleaming black marble. Cocktails are blended with house-made creations like sage and Szechuan pepper–infused cognac and distilled miso essence—even the tonic water is made in house. On Fridays and Saturdays, things get really energetic with live DJs. (Note: this is a smoking bar.) There is no spa or gym, but you can book a day pass to the fitness chain John Reed (a 20-minute walk) for a discounted rate (8.50 euro). Bottom line: Worth it? Why?Unless you're craving a large room with lots of bells and whistles, the AMO makes for an ideal stay. It offers a fantastic location, an excellent bar, and wallet-friendly prices." - Jennifer Ceaser

Very centrally located. Helpful staff. Comfortable bed. Asked for more pillows and lights and received them. No kettle in room. Fabulous large bathroom shower and hot water with great shampoo and body wash. Easy to travel from Hbf main station as well as airport to get to hotel and all places are within greater walking distance from hotel.

The location is great. The rooms are really clean. Just like the other reviews, the rooms are really small. Perfectly fine for 2 people and a short stay. Besides that really clean, easy check in/check out process. There’s great restaurant/food nearby and easy transportation!

We stayed there during a weekend and everything was just so amazing! The room was perfect for a couple - cozy, cleaned, comfortable with all necessary amenities. It’s definitely a stylish Hotel! We managed to went to the Joseph party on Saturday evening and it was so much fun! The staff are friendly, welcoming, and very helpful. If you want to have a nice weekend with a little bit “crazy taste”, go there!

First of all the location is good and when we got there the lady on reception was very pleasant and helpful. I found the decor around the whole hotel and in the room to be very dark which I personally didn’t like. The room was clean but very small it was the smallest hotel room we have ever stayed in and there is no fridge so keeping a drink cold meant standing it outside on the windowsill which is fine the time of year we were there but wouldn’t work in the summer months. It was hot in the room so we like to have a window open but at 530 onwards the noise starts with tables and chairs being dragged around by the cleaners and metal chairs on concrete in the courtyard is quite noisy. I liked the area but would choose a different place to stay if I went to Berlin again

Let’s be honest: Hotel AMO by AMANO calls itself a 3-star hotel, but that’s just modesty. This place easily outshines many “luxury” hotels I’ve stayed in, some of which charge triple the price and can’t even deliver a functioning bathroom tap (looking at you, George V, Paris). AMO offers stylish, comfortable rooms that actually feel like someone cared while designing them. The bathrooms are fully equipped (read: not a glorified sink-and-shower cubicle) and refreshingly modern. Everything is clean, calm, and cleverly put together. It’s Berlin cool without trying too hard. If you enjoy good taste, good sleep, and don’t need someone to call you “sir” every five minutes, this place is for you.

Was recommend by a friend and this didn't disappoint. Location is excellent, for U Bahn, Trams and buses to get around. Also easy walking distance from main Friedrichstrasse station. We had the slightly larger 'comfort room' and it was well worth the little bit extra a night. Spotlessly clean and very comfortable indeed. Staff could not have been more helpful or friendly. We've stayed at many "City Hotels" before around the world and they vary enormously. This however was exceptional.

A stylish and relaxing place to stay - it's my go-to hotel when I'm in Berlin. The decor has really leaned-in to darker blues and low lighting, which gives the hotel a chilled-out and stylish ambience. Friendly staff, no street noise and a nice breakfast. The surrounding area is full of great bars and restaurants.

Wonderful Hotel with great location. From the Airport it took only Train and subway to Oranienburger Tor. The subway is located next to the Hotel. We stayed 3 nights at 5th floor. Room had lots of space and massive bathroom. View was directly to the streets. Room had covers to make it completely dark for great sleep. Only thing we heard every evening and night was sirens from ambulance. Pretty normal at staying night in heart of the city. Neighbourhood had great restaurants and store near by (1min walk). Location is only 20min walk from Berliner Dom. We recommend renting a bicycle. Can do from hotel (16€/day ish) but we used local provider (20min walk from Hotel) because we needed bench for child. Would definetely come back to Amo and can highly recommend this Hotel. Breakfast was good and stuff was very friendly. Cool self checkout counters as well. Thanks to Amo also being child friendly. Welcome was very warm. Great visit and stay in Berlin. Hopefully seeing soon again!
