Great place! Already stayed here twice! Got my own little room and bathroom for $200.- a night! It's one of the best deals and places that I have found and stayed at in southern Mexico! The location is perfect, two blocks from the city hall and cathedral and only a few blocks more from the harbour and malecon! They also have secure parking, I used for my scooter! If you are a simple person, like basic and also like to stretch your budget, this is the place to stay!

This hotel is a 2 start, may be 2 1/2 and they do a great job. The walk up to the room, 213, was the worst part of the weekend vacation. I.m not much of a stair climber these days.|| The room was clean, full size bed with flat screen TV, Mini split AC that worked great, plus a ceiling fan! The room is on the small side but perfect for me since I travel alone most times. It looked to be freshly painted, with the doors probably as old as the building but everything worked fine.|| The bathroom was in good condition, small but serviceable. Like someone mentioned, there is no shower curtain so the toilet can get some spray from the shower. Not a big deal, just lift the lid to the toilet and it stays dry. Plenty of hot water, 24 hours a day.|| The staff was friendly and always available, family run I think. I made reservations via email, had a response in just a few hours. It was Independence Day, with a 4 day holiday for most people and the hotel looks like it does a good business during peak times.|| Located little more than a block away from the zocalo, the location is hard to beat for the price.

We paid 190 pesos for a room with fan and no tv. Breakfast of coffee and sweet roll is included. Simple but adequate. The coffee and roll were fresh and tasty. You can eat in the cafeteria or take it to go. The staff is professional, meaning they are friendly but not indifferent, nothing more or less. The place is spotless, and comfortable. There is parking if you are driving. The center is a minute away on foot.||For the price we paid we did get a simple room without tv. Interwebs did not work in the room, but we were high up on the 3rd floor and in a room not surrounding the courtyard. Seems all rooms have private bathroom. There is hot water. In the lobby is a guest computer if you are not packing your own. Oxxo is next door, as well as a very popular taco stand. Directly across the street is a great bakery. On the next block is a wonderful seafood joint that goes on for 24 hours. Really good food, enjoyed by locals. Past reviews have mentioned noise here, and I agree that can always be a problem. The Amparo was quite peaceful on the Sunday evening we checked in. Most rooms surround a central courtyard, and the noise from the common area may get into those rooms. We took #32 which was quiet and had 3 windows which all let in a very nice breeze and natural light.||After 9 months of travel, this is as good as it gets anywhere. This place is an absolute joy for the price. So good to see a hotel in this price range that is not a shambles. A great budget spot.

This place gets my five stars because they allowed my dog to stay in the room. Such a hotel feature in the country is hard to come by.||||In addition, they have very reasonable rates; they are very close to the center of town; they have clean, yet basic rooms; they had wifi even on the third floor; they have off-street parking; the staff was friendly.||||I would suggest getting a room on the top floor. The breeze shot straight through our window and into our room.

I cant complain, getting an old but clean room, with bano, fan and no tv , but in a very good location for 160 peso. I think its a good deal. I rather spend money on food, than for my room. And the cheapest rooms are on 3rd floor, which istnt noisy. good wifi.

I stayed 3 nights at the Hotel Amparo. It was a bit of a disappointment compared to the reviews I had read. The room I was given was very aged--probably last remodeled about 20 years ago. The mattress was okay, though. The biggest problem was the noise. Thank goodness I had earplugs with me, for noise was coming from many places for much of the night. The other problem was that mosquitoes were in the room. Fortunately, I managed to kill them and to keep the glass-louvered windows closed to try to keep out others. Finally, the water is warm, but the flow is a bit low. There is no hot water in the sink. I travel the world often. This room would be $10 or less in Vietnam, Thailand, Laos, etc. It was priced at $38 here, and that was without air conditioning. Other hotels in the area had similar or lower prices with a/c units in their windows.

This hotel offers fairly basic rooms and excellent value at 150 pesos for one person in a room without tv (more with).||||I stayed in room 30 which was a bit of a trek up on the 3rd floor but it had something of a view and surprisingly the wi fi signal was good. Being high up gave me something of a breeze and this combined with the ceiling fan made the Veracruz heat tolerable.||||The staff were not the friendliest bunch but not unpleasant. There was a computer in the lobby with free internet access for those without a laptop.||||The location is excellent, just a few blocks from the central plaza and the waterfront. There's an Oxxo (Mexican 7/11) on the corner. In the evening an excellent taco place opened up a couple of doors down.||||I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone on a budget.
