Hotel Ancora Cortina d’Ampezzo Review | Hotels Above Par

"Housed in an 1826 building on Corso Italia with sky-blue shutters, this historic boutique hotel merges two-century heritage with contemporary, design-forward interiors conceived by a Soho House alum and a collaboration between Vicky Charles and Renzo Rossi. A member of the Leading Hotels of the World, it offers 38 rooms and suites—many with terraces overlooking the main square and mountain views—featuring dark wood tones, plush textiles with playful trims, crystal sconces, alcove beds, and gold bathroom fixtures; higher-tier suites add wine fridges, TechnoGym benches, bathtubs, gas fireplaces and a top-level suite with a larch-paneled terrace, hot tub, outdoor fire pit and full kitchen. Common areas are cozy and wood-paneled with custom wood furniture, sheepskin throws, stone fireplaces, black-and-white historical photography and oversized art books. Dining centers on a light-filled Viennese-style terrace with heated floors and a central fire pit and a menu of mountain comfort food—think buttery polenta and Paduan-style grilled chicken—alongside a varied breakfast selection and notably pillowy croissants. The three-level spa and wellness facilities include a gym floor, treatment rooms and a tranquil wet area with hammam, steam room, sauna, emotional showers and hydrotherapy tub, plus a lounge with tea and snacks; summer offerings include meadow yoga and guided hikes, while winter conveniences include ski lockers and shuttles to the cable car. The overall vibe is intimate, private-members-club luxury with meticulous design details; pricing starts around €500 per night."

I highly recommend this hotel for its comfortable , daily cleaned and serviced rooms, nice , always helpful staff, including the manager, who personally drove us back from Salerno one day. The best option is breakfast and dinner with a bottle of delicious local wine every day served for the evening meal. The beach well kept, rather empty with sunbeds and parasols for free (included in the bill are a definite plus....and the troquoise sea ..I had a a great time.

The difference between a so so stay and a great stay at a hotel is the quality of the staff and the authenticity of the place. Hotel Ancora has the best of both. The staff was super friendly and helpful. The restaurant was great. It is simple but real. The room was lovely with a great balcony and awesome view of the sea. Parking was perfect, the side entrance to the hotel is very convenient. Price can’t be beat. Grazie mille.

I visited Hotel Ancora at the beginning of September with an organised group of about 60 people. After a week there, I have very mixed feelings. - ROOMS : Some people got great rooms with balconies and sea view, and some ended up in rooms whose windows faced a corridor between two parts of the building, with no access to fresh air! Our first room was just like that, plus it smelled terribly of cigarettes. We complained to the receptionist, and at first she said she couldn't do anything about it, but then she found us a different, better room. The hotel is not brand new and you can see it, but we got room service every day and everything was clean. The cleaning staff were very nice. - AREA: The hotel is basically in the middle of nowhere and on a weekday there's nothing happening in the bars and restaurants around. In the evenings the area seemed a bit sketchy. The beach is far from perfect - it's shingle, dirty and the water gets deep very close to the shore, so it's not the safest for swimming. There's a small swimming pool in the neighbouring hotel, but you have to wear a shower cap to use it. I know it's hygenic, but wearing a plastic cap on your head in this heat is not comfortable. Plus, at first they told us that we can use the pool for free, but then they said that you have to pay 3€. -FOOD: There were constant problems with breakfast, there was never enough food. I know it could be because some guests took too much food, but the servers didn't even react when there were no plates left, or the juice containers were empty. Plus, they served us coffee in paper or plastic (!) cups, even though there was china on the coffee machine. However, the dinners were a masterpiece and they made up for the mediocre breakfasts. Two courses plus dessert every day, and it was all delicious. All in all, the hotel has good and bad sides and much of it depends on how lucky you are with the room you get. As a member of a big group from Poland, I often felt that we were second-class guests and didn't get the same treatment as the other guests, for example Italians. Hotel Ancora definitely is not a true 4-star hotel, 3 stars is the maximum it deserves.

Lovely balcony, staff was super kind and helpful. Beach is just opposite the street. Great view on sunset. Breakfast options are also nice. Rooms are clean. Renovation is still on going. But the construction on the road and bridge is already finished. I really enjoyed my staying in Hotel Ancora. Thanks a lot for their hospitality and great service.

I am not really sure what to say about this hotel. I added a lot of photos so decide for yourself. Hotel has great sea view and you can see Amalfi beach in the distance. Rooms are big and nice until you start to look details. Our room 215 was not renovated completely. Around the new balcony doors there was paint missing. Also left side of the balcony doors could be locked but the right side did not even had a lock. Not all electricity sockets were installed. AC did not work. You can see in photos it was just renovated but it did not work. WiFi signal was bad on the one end of the room but on the other side of the room there was no WiFi signal at all... I could go on but I think you got the point. If you do not look at the details the room itself is realy spacious and it had a greeat view. Also breakfast was great and their beach bar is really nice.

It was a nice stay …. Next to the beach (lungomare) surrounded by bars and restaurants but all was closed until the afternoon so u have just to take the car and drive for 20 min to arrive to the city (Salerno) !!! FOR the hygienic part was a disaster , they cleaned the floor of the room one time in my 3 nights of stay and specially with the covid story so ….… The bed and the sheets was so old , and ruined … the pillows were uncomfortable even after I asked for changing it , also the shower needs a lot of work and the rooms are so normal and basic stuff for a hotel 4 stars ?!!? Anyway the restaurant was so good … the waitress are so friendly and helpful. And finally the price was 65€ night and the restaurant also doesn’t go over 19€ for the dishes .
