Hôtel - Spa Les Corderies, a Design Boutique Hotel Saint-Valery-sur-Somme, France

"The hotel is located in the heart of the Baie de Somme in Saint Valery sur Somme, a picturesque fishing village, with a medieval core. Les Corderies offers stylish rooms providing calm and comfort. The décor spells discrete elegance, comprising comfortable designer furniture. Savour typical specialities in the intimate atmosphere of the hotels restaurant. The swimming pool is conveniently located in the heart of the hotel and the spa provides massages, beauty treatments, a hammam and a sauna, overlooking the Somme Bay. The hotel is ideal to discover the Baie de Somme." - My Boutique Hotel (en)

"This new hotel respects regional architectural traditions. The designer rooms (some with a sea view) are comfortably understated and yet very welcoming after a long walk on the beach." - Tablet Hotels

I hadn’t had a holiday abroad for several years, but my late wife and I visited Saint Valerie many years ago so I thought I would go back to relive some memories and hopefully make some new ones.||I really liked the look of Les Corderies from the pictures on the hotel website and the fact that it had parking ( unlike some hotels in the town) was a real bonus.||I stayed there for 11 nights, 8 in a standard room in the main hotel building and 3 in a superior room above the hotel spa. Both rooms were excellent; if anything the standard room was slightly bigger - but they were both spotlessly clean, comfortable and all the things you would expect from a hotel of this quality.||I had breakfast in the hotel restaurant every morning and couldn’t have asked for more variety. I’ve seen some reviews that didn’t rate the breakfast that highly, but I honestly couldn’t fault either what was available to choose or the quality - and I’ll get my head around having cake (gateau battu) for breakfast eventually.||I had dinner in the restaurant on at least 5 nights and the only word I can think of is ‘Formidable!’. I’ve tried ‘basic’ French dishes (if such a thing exists) but the dinners were on a different level entirely. The presentation was amazing - on some nights the food looked so beautiful it was almost a shame to disturb it by eating it but the flavours made that sacrifice worthwhile. I’ll post a couple of pictures in this review - I was sending the pictures to my family in the UK each night and they were amazed.||Facility wise there’s a small pool in the main building which I used, but I didn’t use any of any of the services in the hotel spa - maybe next time. The lounge is comfortable, there’s a nice selection of drinks in the bar; had my first ever champagne cocktail and became acquainted with Calvados again. There are lots of places to sit or lounge outside the hotel, and the views at sunset overlooking the Baie were stunning.||Plenty of space in the hotel car park and the hotel itself is situated nicely - a 5 minute walk down to the riverside although it was nearer 10 minutes to walk back uphill through the amazingly pretty street.||All the above is great, but the hotel staff were brilliant and to my mind, the staff make all the difference. They couldn’t have been more kind and helpful, nothing was too much trouble or effort - after the 3rd night it was if I’d stayed at Les Corderies forever, they were almost like friends or even family.||Thank you to Clotilde, Marine, Clèmence, Julian, Coralie and everyone else; you made my stay a very special one and I really hope to return one day.

Nice location, bedrooms cleans and modern with a nice view. The grounds are very well taken care of|The only problem is that they are limiting the access to all the spa facilities with a booking system very restrictive. Do not count on using them. Which is a pity considering the weather changes fast and you cannot anticipate when you can hike or bike and when you need to get inside

This was our second trip to Les Corderies, which is a lovely modern hotel with fantastic views.||We stayed in a Stunning View room, on the first floor of the spa annex. The views are indeed stunning from the Juliet balcony. The room design is very stark, which makes the view the focus. The bed was super king size and comfortable. The shower room and separate loo were very nice, with good toiletries.||We had great weather, so enjoyed a drink in the garden both evenings - more great views over the estuary and lovely surroundings. We also enjoyed a late evening Calvados in the garden, with lovely service from the lady who was also working on the reception.||Our only quibble was that we found the dinner to be overpriced. With starters at about €18 and mains at €39, we were expecting some great things. In fact, my cod and my partner’s steak dishes were not very special. Nothing to warrant a complaint at the time, but disappointing. ||Breakfast was very good, with a wide selection of continental options and some enticing looking cake.

On a road trip in our campervan . As it was our anniversary we decided to spend a night at a hotel and chose this one |Unfortunately the season hadn’t started yet so it was very quiet , the pool was off and the restaurant area was empty |Had a nice sleep the bed was comfy and the shower was lovely |Breakfast wasn’t included, it was £20 each, at first I was disappointed with the breakfast as it looked sparse but upon eating it was done nicely with decent coffee

My wife and I wanted to spend a relaxing weekend. We had opted for the Baie de Somme as we had never been there and picked Les Corderies from their web-site. We did not regret our choice. The welcome was warm, the staff were delightful and the service was excellent. The rooms were very comfortable. The location is ideal for visiting the area and the hotel is a great place to relax. The outside bar ‘La Paillotte’ is great, the restaurant was first class. All in all we can’t find fault in the hotel. We will go back and will recommend to friends.

The room can only be really described as students accommodation, the over cluttered small room, with single beds pushed together ( which in the hotel’s view constitutes a large double!), Sliding window and room door that you are NOT able to lock. There are No smoke detectors in room, and the shower room & toilet has an un-useable shaving mirror (that is unless you are 5ft 1 inch which sadly I am not, this is due to it lack of height movement) the entrance is a sliding door which when opened covers the bedroom mirror, compact & bijou is most definitely an understatement when attempting to describe the lack of space and more to the point comfort or should I say lack of it !!!. ||This is definitely a place to recommend to somebody you Really DO NOT like. ||||The restaurant serves nice food but don’t expect to be treated as if you are paying €130 (excluding drinks) by the waiter’s unless you arrive in an expensive sports car.

Nice hotel with private parking. The rooms are spacious and well furnished. Didn't use the spa, but the pool is good. Nice garden setting with outdoor bar and seating. Really friendly staff, in particular the young lady behind the bar. Close to the town centre (about 5 minutes walk), only drawback being a steep climb to get back to the hotel.

Nice place with a beautiful view. But the (allegedly gastronomic) restaurant is clearly overpriced. It is nice (but normal in such a place) that they can offer alternative options (esp. veg dishes, absent from the menu). But invoicing 39 € for a basic ratatouille with a handful of rice is plain extorsion.
