Oceania L'Univers (Tours, Centre-Val de Loire) 1 Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Its lobby may be dedicated to all the famous faces who’ve visited since it opened its doors in 1846, but the Oceania L’Univers Tours is just as relevant today as it ever was. In contrast with its historical façade and retro public spaces, its rooms are full of modernist furniture and contemporary cool. It’s got everything from classic doubles to a selection of family suites that can accommodate up to eight guests, as well as a spa and a heated indoor pool. Also on hand are a traditional bistro-style restaurant and an American-style cocktail bar." - Tablet Hotels

The hotel is well situated in a leafy boulevard in central Tours. There are lots of restaurants and cafes nearby. The grand hotel lobby / hall is really impressive: I guess the lifts date back to the 1930s too. The rest of the hotel is modern - and comfortable. Our room was large and smart.|Food at breakfast was fresh and a reasonable range, although the room is a little small for the Sunday morning rush. It felt a bit functional, but no complaints. |Having to enter and exit through the car par park felt a bit downmarket (no wheelchair access at the main entrance) but overall it is an excellent hotel and good value.

Great location but.... Clearly living off its old glorious reputation. In today's world... The bar was closed for Friday and Saturday night (in mid/late August). No apologies offered from the reception. The "spa" featured an out of service steam room and a broken jacuzzi (which judging by these reviews has been out of action for a year...) The spa massage tables that were so old and tattered the bare yellow foam under the leather was exposed. Not a relaxing feeling putting your face on that!! The bedrooms whilst pretty; featured broken windows and lights. My guess is that place is out of money, avoiding basic repairs and just riding out the summer months to try and make some money. We were offered a 20% discount on two drinks to make up for the terrible service, on what should have been a special w.end... We cancelled our dinner reservation and headed out to avoid giving this place anymore money. Sad to see a nice place fall into such disrepair. Good luck Oceania, I hope you get a new more conscientious manager who takes care of you.

I stayed at this hotel recently. The rooms were spacious, clean, and nicely decorated, which made for a comfortable stay. However, the cleanliness of the hotel’s common areas left something to be desired—the hallways and elevator were not well maintained. The location is excellent, with a convenient and affordable parking lot nearby. Breakfast was enjoyable, though it would have been better with a selection of fresh vegetables.

Access to the hotel was a complete disaster.|Because of a fleamarket, the street entrance was blocked and controlled by security. Every single bag had to be opened and checked on the street, in full view of everyone. The hotel’s own parking garage was not available – so we had to carry everything, including our bikes, from a public parking lot to the hotel, only to go through security control.||There was no prior information for guests about these restrictions. On Sunday, no manager was available, and the receptionist was completely incompetent and unwilling to help. We even tried to cancel our booking, but the reception flatly refused and declined to contact a manager. We should ask the manager ourselfs by writing an eMail for a cancelation and refund.||This was a truly unpleasant and unprofessional start to our bike journey along the Loire.

I stayed in this hotel, with my friends family who are on holiday (I live in Paris), so it's important to me that they get a wonderful experience while on holiday. I was thoroughly disappointed to realise that the sauna (included in the price) wasn't working, the pool was cold, the petit-déjeuner was honestly below travelodge standard. Limited selection, not everything is fresh - eggs uncooked, meat practically cremated, unripe fruit, cheese with flies all over. I wasn't going to comment anything, but the staff member who took our feedback actually argued my criticism. Lovely Place to stay, value for money not so much...

Dirty corridor, with spiderwebs, worn-down wallpaper, stains in the carpet, lots of dirt. Room service tray was outside in the corridors a few doors down, and when we left the next day, the tray was still there, with rotting food and all. Bathroom sink wasn't emptying. Coffee machine not working. We had a baby cod that we didn't ask for in the room. Towels looked like they were 20 years old. The only thing going for them was the reception lady, who was friendly.||Very very expensive at 200 EUR per night!!

this hotel is in a fab location, plenty of bars & restaurants only a few hundred yards away.||. we appreciated the safe parking ( albeit at extra cost )& staff were kind enough to allow us to spend time in the city , leaving our car in garage, after checkout.||staff we met were smiley & friendly .||public rooms are very well kept . we didn’t book for breakfast or dinner but breakfast room looked busy & a wedding reception was being held as we were leaving. ||our room was large, clean, comfy beds , good shower but decor is tired as are the corridors & carpets on corridors desperately need replaced….a trip hazard .||Tours is a lovely city & Hotel L’Univers is a great place to stay, just needs a little bit of TLC. ||

Not 4 Star. Rooms good modern and clean. Very spats staffing; no help with bags. Also no laundry service at all; that is 3 star. No in room d fridge in a hot Summet. All in all a satisfactory stay but is definitely not 4 star by our experience

Yelp
This is a nice, but old-styled hotel that was renovated recently. Just a note that their showers and toilets are in 2 separate rooms. But, this works out just fine for couples or families. Also, there's a pool with a jacuzzi. And, they have a facial shop, too. The location of this hotel is great because it's near the train station. There are many eateries and shops nearby which are all within walking distant.

Yelp
In Tours we stayed at the L'Univers. Our room had been renovated, apparently in the 70s? Our room was spacious and clean but just a little weird. The hotel apparently had received many very famous dignitaries during its heyday and they were all memorialized in a mural in the lobby. But I think it's fair to say that the hotel had passed its prime. And its bar was really bad. We were also put off by the fact that the hotel's parking, which is a block from the hotel, was closed due to a pending giant sidewalk sale and as a result we were forced to park about three blocks away in a municipal parking garage. (As an aside, the garage was the da Vinci Garage and our hotel attendant kept telling us the name of the garage but suffice it to say French people and Americans do not say the name "da Vinci" the same way. We had no idea what we were looking for!) The hotel should have told us about this inconvenience when we booked our rooms. We might have decided to stay somewhere else. I'm not sure what other hotels Tours has to offer, but I'm not sure I would heartily endorse L'Univers. It wasn't bad. It just wasn't commendable.
