One of the most incredible and memorable places I’ve ever stayed in. Our rooms had medieval wall paintings, renaissance wall panels and ceilings and were huge.
Exceptionally comfortable and well appointed, staff are extremely efficient, polite, friendly and helpful.
The only slightly negative comment I have and in a building of its age, to be expected, is the central heating was rather noisy!

I can find no fault with this lovely hotel. An old house meticulously preserved and fitted out on the inside. Signs in the room explain it's history and layout. The room I had (No. 1) was very tastefully done and very convenient. Every small detail was clearly designed for the comfort of the guest. The service was prompt and gracious when I needed it and invisible when I didn't. Breakfast was nice but a bit clumsily served and to be frank i have eaten better, even in Germany. Location is fantastic and the prize was quite reasonable for what you get. This is not a luxury hotel - just a very good hotel.

This small hotel has been renovated with respect, care and taste. It's beautiful.||||We were lucky to have booked room 3 which is a suite on the ground floor (maybe 4 steps to the door) looking out onto the internal courtyard garden.||||The room was huge, light filled & stylishly furnished. It had a fabulous ceiling. The bed was very comfortable.||||The bathroom was also large & well equipped.||||I noticed early reviews say the hotel provides very little but our mini bar had complimentary water, cool drinks & beer which were refilled daily.||||The toiletries in the bathroom were plentiful & nice quality.||||The room came with robes & flip flops.||||Housekeeping was impeccable.||||The staff were pleasant & helpful although a little reserved which we don't mind.||||The deal about pre booking breakfast does seem odd but we opted for the small breakfast & it was a nice light start to the day and trust me you won't go hungry in Lubeck.||||Staff recommendations for dinner were good.||||Location is also good - walking distance to most things Lubeck has to offer.||||Honestly, we can't fault it.

Even though we decided to not go to Germany before the end of September (because not all German hotels have a. c.), it was still too hot in our room here in the north of Germany close to the Baltic Sea. We desperately needed a. c., but there was none.||||Other than that it's beautifully renovated and really was built in 1216 (the reception gives you a brochure about the history of this house).||We had room 6 on the 2nd floor (which is the 1st floor in Germany) with windows towards Alfstrasse.||The breakfast is absolutely delicious and very filling. Lovely staff.||This is a very quiet location next to the river Trave. We stayed there Friday night and Saturday night and it was very peaceful. The mattress was great and the two single down comforters which are common in Germany are so much more convenient than the big kingsize down comforters in the US where one of two people in a bed usually is a linen hugger :).||||There was no vent in the bathroom. The reading light was sufficient. The bed is 180 cm x 200 cm which is a bit wider than queen size.||||Would have rated 5 stars if a. c. would be included.

This is a beautifully restored building but like many old buildings it does not have a lift and there is only one room downstairs. There is also a steep flight of steps from the street up to reception.||||Parking is a bit of a nightmare here and is on-street parking meters so make sure you have some change!||||Rooms was a good size and well furnished.||you are given a choice of breakfast options and we went for the small breakfast which was more than sufficient. Staff are helpful.||Location is very good on the side of the river and an easy walk into the centre of the town.

Hotel Anno 1226 was probably the best stay of our entire trip. The hotel is beautiful. The staff was kind and attentive. We were able to privately have breakfast in the courtyard every morning. |Lübeck is an amazing city. Most days were spent walking and investigating all of it's corners. Hotel Anno 1216 was the perfect place to relax and end the evening. |The hotel was very clean and elegantly comfortable, without being pretentious. |I will happily stay there again.

A lot of the places I stay pretty quickly blur into a vague recollection or even disappear from memory completely. Anno 1216 is one of a handful that will most likely be preserved in my memory - and mostly for good reasons. We had an enormous room with ornate plasterwork on the ground floor. It even had a little balcony where we could sit and take in the canal opposite. The room was sparsely but reasonably tastefully furnished and felt more like a large sitting room than a bedroom. It was a genuinely interesting experience just being in the room in this very old building. However, while memorable, Anno 1216 was less than completely satisfactory for several reasons. The first is that while it is called a hotel, it is really much more like a B&B. There are minimal staff and no-one at all before 7.30PM or after 7.30PM. There is no help with luggage or parking and no room service (just an empty bar fridge). It is pretty-well DIY - which is fine if that is what you are expecting and did not bother us too much - although it was a bit disconcerting to begin with. The second is that the bathroom was barely adequate - poor water pressure, not lot of space and very basic toiletries. The third is that there was no air conditioning and we had to sleep with the window open. As Anno 1216 fronts a busy road, there was a fair bit of noise. On the positive side it is well located and we were able to find street parking without too much difficulty. The person at the desk was pleasant enough but no more helpful than strictly necessary. In short, Anno 2016 offers a memorable experience but not a lot of amenity. I therefore recommend with reservations.
