We have stayed at Antiqua Casona before and returning was like walking back into our own home. Norma and Lucas were so welcoming and we were placed in our favourite room near the pool. The location is wonderful and there is onsite parking. Although street parking is safe too. The rooms are spotless and Norma has the hotel looking pristine. Fatima the manager is amazing! She speaks extremely good English and took us in her own car to places we wanted to see, I cannot fault the service at this hotel. With 20 years in the airline industry I can be a tad fussy at times. The breakfast is homemade breads, croissants, jams cakes tarts cereals and fresh fruit. The breakfast room is open for all guests to use at any time, with tea and coffee facilities. Norma even remembered we like cold milk. This understated classy hotel is fabulous! My rating 12/10 ||San Antonio de Areco is a quaint safe town and is a wonderful place to visit if you have spare days in Buenos Aires. Fatima can arrange Polo, massages, estancia visits and her sister Delfina has a gorgeous art and design gallery in town. The museums are fabulous and the restaurants close by the hotel serve quality food at reasonable prices.

Charming hotel with lovely hosts & staff. Fatima, Norma and Lucas are a great team and so welcoming and accommodating. The hotel only has 6 or so rooms but is spacious and quiet. I really liked how the colonial styling had been retained, with modern comforts added sympathetically (air con, swimming pool etc). It is in an excellent location just off the main square & close to the best bars and restaurants. Popping in to the nearby Pulperia (traditional bar) is like stepping back in time to a bygone era and highly recommended!

The rooms and atmosphere here are really lovely. It feels like stepping back in time. Comfy beds and good facilities. We had a very nice couple of days, and it is just a couple of blocks from the main square where you can eat, drink and people watch - everything from gauchos to bikers pass by.||However in winter the rooms were very cold at night. Breakfast is also a little disappointing.

My wife and I spent three nights at Antigua Casona and were sad to leave. The place itself is charming as can be! The rooms evoke what Argentina must have been like 100 years ago! The pictures accurately show how the place appears. ||||The breakfast room is delightful and the pool is small but adequate. Breakfast was all we could have asked for. ||||The best, however, was the opportunity to meet Norma. She is a kind and friendly lady who maintains the casona during the day. She does not speak English and we do not speak much Spanish but we got along very well. She always had a warm smile for us!||||We spent our mornings walking around San Antonio and about mid-afternoon we settled in by the pool. It was a relaxing way to spend the day!||||Tip: If you drive to San Antonio, you will find parking on the street outside the casona. My advice is to park your car and leave it there - we only saw one traffic light and there are no stop signs. Whoever gets to the intersection first has the right of way!||||Tip #2: Also, the wifi router must be near the front desk. We were in room #6 and wifi was spotty. It was fine when we went down to the desk.

Pros: Outstanding service. The hotel is quiet and relaxing. Excellent location (2 blocks from main square, 1 block from great restaurant and bar) Cons: Our room smelled of humidity (maybe because of the recent flood). Other: It has a swimming pool, free bicycles to borrow and breakfast is included.

Yes, indeed, totally against Argentine law, this place is cash only. Foreigners paying with their debit or credit card can thus NOT benefit from the VAT-exemption. Yet they charge it anyhow. We were also overcharged on the breakfast rate. The booking site ( through which we booked ) stated 10 USD extra for breakfast on the triple rate, but the owner insisted it was 15 USD, us being three !||The infrastructure is too old fashioned to guarantee comfort. Staff ( except the owner herself) is very friendly tough.||And for last, we had a massage in one of the rooms on the first day, but were NOT allowed having our massage in the hotel the next day as we were forced to check out at 11: 00 h, which means literally a second after finishing breakfast. Does not matter as the hotel has nothing else to offer and the swimming pool, in the midst of Summer happened to be closed as well.||No intention to return.

Antigua Casona is a small B&B just 2 blocks away from the main square and 1 block away from one of the best bars (Bessonart Bar) and one of the best restaurants (Almacen de Ramos Generales) in San Antonio de Areco. ||The hotel has a colonial style and only 6 rooms with private bathrooms. There's also an interior patio/garden and a small greenhouse where breakfasts are served.||The rooms are also styled with colonial furniture. I only missed having a small stool to lay open my luggage.||Regarding the ammenities, there's a living room (where the front desk is) with books, sofas and a tv, a swimming pool (recently installed), 3-4 bikes to borrow for free, the breakfast service, free wifi and the patio/garden to read and relax.||Regarding the breakfast, I've seen some people say it's bad and some people say it's good. Breakfast is a typical full breakfast of Argentina: croissants, toasts with jam, juice, coffee, yogurt, cereal and assorted fresh fruits. Don't expect scrambled eggs, ham, cheese and bacon.||||The best things: the friendly service, the relaxing garden.||The worst things: our room had an evident smell of humidity from the old wooden floors and the wooden furniture but you get used to it very quickly. I think the small remained from a recent flood that affected the whole town. We also found a cockroach but we were in the middle of the countryside so we thought it was expected.
