Hotel Aranjuez

Our first experience was not great. Landing late in the evening we had a room in the garden, which was basic and noisy. People arriving late into the night were walking past and wheeling suitcases, so not great sleep in room 31. ||But, as we then arrived back on route home from a cross country journey, our second experience was so much better. Room 28 was certainly better, and quieter. Well presented, comfortable and a really good bathroom. ||Breakfast was great, with lots of good food choices, and it is in a good location to walk to the cathedral and museums. ||The late check out was really good.

We were here for 3 nights. The room was quite small, the bathroom even smaller, and they never cleaned the room while we were there, tho requested at least once. There was only cold water in sink. The room was clean when we arrived. It is a decent value for the price, however we've had cleaner, bigger rooms in similarly priced lodgings. We were only able to enjoy the breakfast, which was very good, one day, as we had day tours that left before breakfast began. We enjoyed the "eclectic" atmosphere.

We stayed at this hotel twice on a tour booked through Exoticca. It is tired and old. everything was worn and a little rough around the edges. We had two different rooms so we definitely got a feeling that the entire hotel was equally as worn and dated. The walls were thin so there was a lot of noise at night when you’re trying to sleep. Also there is neither heat nor air conditioning in the hotel. So our first night there we were too hot and our second night, which was a week later, we were freezing. Some of the front desk staff were very friendly and helpful. Some were not. Honestly I don’t think that I’d choose to stay at this hotel again. I think there are much nicer places for just a little bit more money.

For a vegan traveling to Costa Rica, this hotel is a good choice. The breakfast provided every day gives you enough options to be content, and the neighborhood is plentiful with vegan food options. There's also some wonderful cafes nearby; I'd recommend stopping by Cafeoteca if you have the chance!

I booked a vacation through Exoticca and stayed here the night I arrived, and again the night before departure. I don’t recall the room # I stayed in the first night, but tonight, I’m in room 29. The floor outside the room that leads to other rooms squeaks. So imagine a heavy walker. I don’t know if Exoticca travelers get the low end rooms or what. I don’t have a problem staying somewhere old but the two rooms I stayed in are not 4 stars. The walls could use a fresh coat of paint, shower grout could be cleaner, and the wash bowl drain needs to be replaced: it’s eroded. You can tell the toilet has been repositioned. The rooms aren’t nasty, and there aren’t roaches or rodents in the room. It doesn’t warrant 4 stars. I would rate it between a 2 or 3. A three is on the high end. For the sake of it, I’m grading it as a 2.

We had a nice time here. It is close to tons of upscale restaurants and shopping within walking distance. It is safe and the owner is so nice. This is our second time here. It is a close taxi ride to SJO just make sure to not go when it is busy. Traffic is really bad in SJO unless you go early or late (7pm). Don't go around 3-5

Great breakfast, unique hotel, good price. Stayed on two occasions. I'm very picky about beds, and one of the beds was super comfy and one not quite so comfy.

The moment I walked into our room we were overwhelmed with a moldy smell. There are roaches. I used all the blankets to cover the cracks at the bottom of the doors to hopefully stop them from coming in from the hallway, we still found them in our bathroom. My partner and I were exhausted so he didn’t want to re-book a new place and move…I wish he had let me. I had a sleepless night.
